I thought about it for a while, and\u2026 yes, I do think<\/p>\n
car enthusiasts can struggle to get dates.<\/span>(Though who am I to say?)<\/span><\/p>\n I know full well I\u2019m no dating expert, nor am I a gorgeous, kindhearted, universally adored woman like Haruka Ayase. Still, I\u2019d like to share my thoughts from a woman\u2019s perspective.<\/p>\n I think the reason people say car enthusiasts struggle with dating is that \u201cthe car always comes first.\u201d<\/strong> That kind of all-consuming passion can be hard for many women to relate to.<\/p>\n Take my husband, for example(sorry to use you as an example when we\u2019re talking about men who struggle to date)<\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n Back when he had an SLK 350, we parked at his parents\u2019 house. I opened the passenger door and tried to get out, but the seat sat lower than I expected. I couldn\u2019t get my balance, and as I held on to the door handle, I started to topple over.<\/p>\n \u201cIf I don\u2019t let go, I\u2019m going to slam the door into the wall!\u201d<\/strong> I thought, so I quickly released it. With nowhere else to put my hand, I landed hard on the concrete, and pain shot through my palm. I winced and cried, \u201cOuch!\u201d<\/strong>\u2014and my husband immediately asked:<\/p>\n Are you okay?! The door!<\/span><\/p>\n \u2026 In that moment, I felt like I\u2019d just seen \u201ca preview of our entire married life\u201d<\/strong> (laughs).<\/p>\n Generally speaking, women like men who are thoughtful, know how to make them happy, and look good(and I suppose the reverse is true, too)<\/span>. So when you\u2019re together and you start to notice lots of moments that make you think, \u201cIs the car more important to you than I am?\u201d it\u2019s easy to wonder whether the relationship is going to work.<\/p>\n Maybe that\u2019s why people say \u201ccar-loving men aren\u2019t popular with women.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n But just as car enthusiasts are devoted to their cars, I think many of them are devoted to the women they love, too.(At least, a lot of them are.)<\/span><\/p>\n Looking around at the people I know, many car enthusiasts really do take good care of their girlfriends and wives.(Some aren\u2019t exactly smooth operators, though, so they don\u2019t always know how to show it.)<\/span><\/p>\n I also get the impression that many people with an enthusiast\u2019s focus excel at work and go on to build successful careers. Others may be young now, but work hard and earn recognition because owning and maintaining the car they want gives them something to strive for. When you look at it that way,<\/p>\n a man who works hard, gets ahead, and loves his partner faithfully<\/span><\/p>\n sounds like a pretty great guy to me!<\/p>\n \u201cEasy for you to say\u2014but where are the women who\u2019ll look beyond the car obsession and see what a great guy he is?\u201d<\/strong> you might ask. But being popular with women and meeting someone who\u2019s right for you aren\u2019t necessarily the same thing.<\/p>\n Being able to be yourself, pursue what you love, and meet a woman who\u2019s happy with that seems more important than being popular. At least, that\u2019s how I see it.<\/p>\n Maybe I only feel that way because I\u2019ve gotten older. (Ha!)<\/p>\n Here\u2019s something I want to say from a woman\u2019s perspective: some women judge men by \u201cwho they are, not how they look,\u201d<\/strong> and by their own instincts and values rather than convention or what other people think. They may be in the minority, but they\u2019re definitely out there\u2014and I know quite a few.<\/p>\n But there\u2019s one thing I can say for sure:<\/p>\n Those women are definitely a little unusual.<\/span><\/p>\n They may look much like anyone else, but once you talk to them, you might find they\u2019re not quite \u201cordinary\u201d\u2014maybe a little offbeat or even a bit wild. A little different(in a good way)<\/span>.<\/p>\n They might think, \u201cI see things differently from other people. I don\u2019t mind if my boyfriend or husband loves cars. I have things I want to do, too, so let\u2019s both enjoy what we love.\u201d<\/p>\n Put like that, you might think, \u201cShe sounds incredibly understanding. Who cares if she\u2019s a little unusual\u2014she sounds great!\u201d<\/strong> But here\u2019s something to keep in mind:<\/p>\n Don\u2019t expect these women to do all the things you might expect from a more conventional partner (laughs).<\/strong><\/p>\n For example, don\u2019t expect her to get up early to make a homemade lunch or sandwiches for a date, or to listen sympathetically and say, \u201cThat sounds so hard\u2014I know exactly how you feel,\u201d when you\u2019re having a rough time at work.<\/p>\n Don\u2019t expect that kind of thing(Actually, I\u2019m talking about myself here.)<\/span><\/p>\n But then again, maybe it\u2019s precisely because they\u2019re a little unconventional that they can accept an unconventional car enthusiast and give him the freedom to do his thing.<\/p>\n So where exactly do you find a woman like that? I really couldn\u2019t say(Hey, don\u2019t ask me!)<\/span> But I\u2019m pretty sure<\/p>\n she won\u2019t be at a singles mixer, So how are you supposed to meet her? (\uff0d_\uff0d)<\/p>\n This is just my gut feeling, but meeting someone is all about timing and connection. The right people are drawn to each other, so you may not need to go searching everywhere. Someone like that might be closer than you think.<\/strong><\/p>\n What matters is that when you meet a woman and think, \u201cThis is it!\u201d<\/strong> you don\u2019t hesitate or hold back\u2014you reach out and make it happen. Just like when you find the car you really want and do whatever it takes to get it (laughs).<\/p>\n \u2026At this point, I\u2019m not even sure who I\u2019m talking to or what I\u2019m talking about, so I\u2019ll leave it there for today. m(_ _)m<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Do Car Enthusiasts Really Struggle to Date?
