This was my first serious highway run since switching to winter tires, and <strong>it was extremely comfortable\u2014there was absolutely no wobbliness or instability at high speeds.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In fact, <strong>compared to summer tires, these winter tires offered better grip in these low temperatures, giving me a strong sense of confidence.<\/strong> Although we took breaks along the way, we were on track to arrive earlier than expected.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"From_Yamanami_Kaido_to_Oku-Kibi_Kaido\"><\/span>From Yamanami Kaid\u014d to Oku-Kibi Kaid\u014d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>At that point, we suddenly changed our route. To drive the unplanned Mimasaka Yamanami Kaid\u014d, we exited at Tsuyama IC.<\/p>\n<p>After refueling at a nearby gas station, we set off onto the Yamanami Kaid\u014d!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-27423\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/F796D388-43D0-4393-AE35-C7653AFA4C60-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Driving on Yamanami Kaid\u014d\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This was my first time driving the Carrera 4 GTS on this road. Since I was on winter tires, I couldn\u2019t immediately feel the grip and cautiously increased my pace. The outside temperature ranged from 6 to 9\u00b0C at this time. When pushing hard, there was a slight squirming sensation at the end, but the dry road grip was impressive.<\/p>\n<p>Naturally, my pace picked up, and eventually, I completely forgot I was on winter tires. We then turned onto Oku-Kibi Kaid\u014d, where the NA flat-six roars from the two GTS cars echoed even louder.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The outside temperature was 3\u00b0C.<\/strong> Grip and stability felt even stronger than when we were on Yamanami Kaid\u014d earlier. It seems winter tires have a sweet spot around this temperature.<\/p>\n<p>Without hesitation, I floored the accelerator in second gear and powered out of corners. The catapult-like traction of the Carrera 4 is addictive.<\/p>\n<p>Later, when I asked TAKURO, who was chasing me in the Boxster GTS, he said, \u201c<strong>It\u2019s insanely fast! I even switched to Sport Plus to keep up (laughs).<\/strong>\u201d I didn\u2019t feel like I was driving that fast, but that just shows how incredible the Carrera 4 GTS\u2019s performance really is.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-27422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/1DE1B169-EB3D-4985-90E5-EAAAD1B3B451-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Boxster GTS chasing\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After a while, a black 911 with a ducktail suddenly appeared right in front of us.<\/p>\n<p>Looking closely, it was an early 991 Cabriolet. Yes, this was Tomoz\u014d-san\u2019s newly purchased Carrera GTS Cabriolet.<\/p>\n<p>We met up at Ukank\u014dzan Park to take a closer look at the car.<\/p>\n<p>This was an exquisite spec: <strong>not only leather interior but even the instrument panel was brown.<\/strong> I\u2019d only seen this once before on a 996, but this was my first time seeing it on a 991.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-27413\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/A61778BE-98C3-42CF-A969-17EF897598BB-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Carrera GTS Cabriolet (early 991)\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-27407\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/656A3D21-27D6-4E75-A412-DD2C6799F691-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Carrera GTS Cabriolet (early 991)\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-27399\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/ABC7D5FA-65A0-41A0-A3F5-C84C4802FC3F-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Center console of Carrera GTS Cabriolet\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-27425\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/15FB7B86-251E-4C83-9C80-9C8AD8E86DDE-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Interior of Carrera GTS Cabriolet (early 991)\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This car isn\u2019t just equipped with the three holy grails of Sport Chrono, Sport Exhaust, and PASM\u2014it also boasts 18-way Sport Seats Plus, seat ventilation, PCCB, and PDCC, making it a seven-holy-grail spec that rivals even the Turbo S in terms of performance.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, with the genuine ducktail spoiler, the exterior looks incredibly cool. On a Cabriolet, the rear can sometimes appear to drop off sharply, but the ducktail cleverly balances that out.<\/p>\n<p>Especially when viewed directly from behind while driving, it somehow resembles the 991 Speedster, which is a fascinating sight.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Test_Driving_the_Carrera_GTS_Cabriolet_early_991\"><\/span>Test Driving the Carrera GTS Cabriolet (early 991)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I immediately took it for a short spin. The sound, engine feel, and PDK shifts were very similar to my own Carrera 4 GTS.<\/p>\n<p>I expected the sound to be more direct with the roof down, but that wasn\u2019t the case. <strong>The coupe and cabriolet feel almost the same, likely thanks to the sound symposer drawing the engine sound into the cabin.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-27433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/745B4E6A-7518-492F-9368-5C0AF5D5D368-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Carrera GTS Cabriolet\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A rich, layered deep bass \u2018Gwooon!\u2019 resonates from around 3500 rpm. This tone is unique to the GTS and not found on the S.<\/p>\n<p>While driving, the ride comfort over vertical bumps at low speed wasn\u2019t much different from my coupe. However, the big difference was in lateral movement. <strong>This is largely thanks to PDCC, which clearly reduces body roll in corners.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tomoz\u014d-san mentioned that in city driving, when road surfaces differ on each side, the reduced sway is very noticeable, showing PDCC\u2019s effectiveness.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-27419\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/93E0FB2A-5AA7-42B0-B8BF-BBECB6025811-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Driving the Carrera GTS Cabriolet\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Switching PDCC to Sport mode and cornering further highlighted the difference between having it and not. The car maintains an incredibly flat posture with minimal roll. Some might find this unnatural, but I love this feeling of invincibility.<\/p>\n<p>I had completely forgotten while driving, but this is an RR car. My GTS is a Carrera 4, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/911c4gts-cab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the previous GTS Cabriolet I drove was also a Carrera 4<\/a>, so I expected to notice the difference quickly, but <strong>this Carrera GTS Cabriolet didn\u2019t feel much like a two-wheel-drive car at all.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I suspect this is due to the high front-end grip PDCC provides by controlling roll. It\u2019s an RR with surprisingly little of the typical RR feel.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Round_Trip_on_Kagura_Kaido\"><\/span>Round Trip on Kagura Kaid\u014d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>With all three cars together, we headed to the famous \u2018Kagura Kaid\u014d.\u2019 This road has appeared many times on the blog, so I\u2019ll skip the details, but it\u2019s a fantastic winding road.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-27412\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/47B4B87E-629B-48E3-BCFD-8A39433E8FA6-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Three GTS cars\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With no destination in mind, we simply planned to enjoy a 27 km stretch of exhilarating road back and forth\u2014some might say we were crazy. The three GTS cars echoed their thrilling sounds as they disappeared into the mountains.<\/p>\n<p>Along the way, we swapped cars at the Kirinomi Umi Observation Hill and enjoyed lively car talk.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-27406\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/3E79EFE4-495F-47C3-A439-42BDAE7647AE-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Boxster GTS\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-27418\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/840049D2-AAD6-4F6E-8EBB-659581BF15FC-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Porsche ducktail\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Comparing again with the Cabriolet, <strong>Tomoz\u014d-san said the coupe still feels more cohesive and solid.<\/strong> Perhaps the absence of a roof creates subtle differences in response. While the 992 shows almost no difference, the early 991 Cabriolet and coupe seem to have a more noticeable gap.<\/p>\n<p>That said, the round trip on Kagura Kaid\u014d is quite demanding. This is truly a case of being \u2018<strong>completely satisfied<\/strong>.\u2019 After driving over 50 km of winding roads, you do start to feel a bit tired.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-27411\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/5FAB3A50-471C-4F11-9003-7DAF801E0B44-854x1280.jpeg\" alt=\"Carrera 4 GTS (early 991)\" width=\"854\" height=\"1280\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Kibi_Plateau_Kaido_and_Ebimeshi\"><\/span>Kibi Plateau Kaid\u014d and Ebimeshi<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>As the sun set, the three cars slowed their pace and headed home.<\/p>\n<p>We drove the now-dark Kibi Plateau Kaid\u014d, thoroughly enjoying the drive. Honestly, <strong>Okayama Prefecture has so many great roads for spirited driving.<\/strong> For car lovers\u2014or rather, driving enthusiasts\u2014it\u2019s like paradise.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-27424\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/A658D1BB-449A-4292-BF54-99AC43FABFF3-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Carrera 4 GTS (early 991)\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Along the way, we tried Okayama\u2019s specialty called \u201cEbimeshi.\u201d It looks like a very rich dry curry, but it\u2019s surprisingly light and easy to eat.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-27427\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/41292543-553D-47F9-8D92-D4DB02BB3EC4-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Ebimeshi\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After enjoying Ebimeshi, we took the expressway straight home. We covered a lot of ground this time as well.
