Until then, the <strong>971 Panamera had been my benchmark for ride comfort<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"> (though, to be fair, I haven\u2019t driven all that many cars)<\/span>\u2014but the new Cayenne was several times more comfortable.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"UYPoyhRXN1\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/new-cayenne-factory\/\">\u30dd\u30eb\u30b7\u30a7 \u65b0\u578b\u30ab\u30a4\u30a8\u30f3\u3001\u5de5\u5834\u306e\u88fd\u9020\u5de5\u7a0b\u3092\u7dcf\u529b\u53d6\u6750\uff01\uff08\u3057\u305fTV\u756a\u7d44\u3092\u307e\u3068\u3081\u3066\u307f\u305f\uff09<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"\u201c\u30dd\u30eb\u30b7\u30a7 \u65b0\u578b\u30ab\u30a4\u30a8\u30f3\u3001\u5de5\u5834\u306e\u88fd\u9020\u5de5\u7a0b\u3092\u7dcf\u529b\u53d6\u6750\uff01\uff08\u3057\u305fTV\u756a\u7d44\u3092\u307e\u3068\u3081\u3066\u307f\u305f\uff09\u201d \u2014 \u30dd\u30eb\u30b7\u30a7\u304c\u308f\u304c\u5bb6\u306b\u3084\u3063\u3066\u304d\u305f - \u30aa\u30fc\u30ca\u30fc\u30ba\u30d6\u30ed\u30b0\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/new-cayenne-factory\/embed\/#?secret=0HxTzMKNmX#?secret=UYPoyhRXN1\" data-secret=\"UYPoyhRXN1\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Actually, \u201cin a class of its own\u201d is more like it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5336 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_8240-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"New Porsche Cayenne\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>How can a ride feel so comfortable? The suspension is firm, yet the ride is remarkably soft and smooth. You barely feel bumps or jolts in the road; it\u2019s almost as if the car is gliding along on rails. And yet, it never feels floaty\u2014you can still sense the tires gripping the road.<\/p>\n<p>The rear seats are comfortable, too. I\u2019d always assumed that <strong>riding in the back of an SUV meant getting bounced around like you do on a bus<\/strong>, but that wasn\u2019t the case at all. I even thought, \u201cI\u2019d happily spend a long road trip in the back seat!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a Car Graphic TV review of the new Cayenne\u2014the base model with standard coil springs and no PASM\u2014motoring journalist Kunimitsu Matsunoya had this to say about its ride:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">The moment you set off, this feels like a luxury car. The ride is so supple that you\u2019d never guess it was wearing tires this wide. I\u2019m not sure whether to say it\u2019s unlike a Porsche, but you almost wonder if they\u2019ve made it too luxurious, too comfortable. (Omitted) <strong>I mean, it\u2019s amazing that you could be fooled into thinking it has air suspension&#8230;<\/strong> It\u2019s a strange feeling. It\u2019s a Porsche, it doesn\u2019t have air suspension, and yet it rides like that.<\/p>\n<p>If even Matsunoya puts it that way, the new Cayenne\u2019s ride comfort must be something special.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">I Can\u2019t Stop Thinking About the Cayenne<\/h3>\n<p>Ever since we test-drove the new Cayenne, there\u2019s been a bit of a problem at home: <strong>even cars we used to think rode comfortably now feel rough by comparison.<\/strong> Our Volkswagen Golf 7 is a good example. It\u2019s still a very good car, but there was a time when I wondered, <strong>\u201cIf we have the Golf, do we really need the Panamera?\u201d<\/strong> Now I find myself thinking, \u201cWas it always this bumpy? Did we change the tire pressure?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1068 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_4517-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Volkswagen Golf\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Panamera\u2019s ride is by no means uncomfortable, either. Still, every now and then I can\u2019t help thinking, <strong>\u201cIt just isn\u2019t as smooth as the Cayenne.\u201d<\/strong> Maybe we shouldn\u2019t have test-driven the new Cayenne after all.<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"> (Just kidding&#8230;)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The other day, my husband put it this way:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">After driving the new Cayenne and being so surprised by how comfortable it was, my standards for ride comfort changed completely. I used to think, \u201cThe Panamera and Boxster ride so differently\u2014they\u2019re in completely different categories.\u201d But after driving the new Cayenne, I started thinking, \u201cThe Panamera is a sports car, too. It\u2019s in the same category as the Boxster.\u201d I can\u2019t find the right way to explain it.<\/p>\n<p>I asked, \u201cIs it like how I used to think a $5 steak and a $20 steak were completely different, but after trying a $100 steak, I started thinking, \u2018The $5 and $20 ones are basically the same!\u2019?\u201d<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"> (Not that I\u2019ve ever had steak that expensive.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Hmm, I\u2019m not sure I really get that comparison, but&#8230; I guess it\u2019s kind of like that.<\/p>\n<p>That was his answer (-_-).<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"> (Really?)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5346 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_8235-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"New Porsche Cayenne\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ever since that test drive, my husband says he can\u2019t help comparing every car he gets into with the Cayenne\u2019s ride\u2014and he just can\u2019t forget it. But replacing our Golf with a Cayenne would be a bit too much of a splurge&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>That said, the Golf\u2019s due for inspection next year, so who knows what our household will look like this time next year&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Just How Comfortable Is the New Cayenne?
