{"id":37178,"date":"2018-11-30T06:00:02","date_gmt":"2018-11-29T21:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/?p=37178"},"modified":"2018-11-29T09:37:00","modified_gmt":"2018-11-29T00:37:00","slug":"door-punch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/en\/entry\/door-punch\/","title":{"rendered":"How Do You Protect Your Car from Door Dings? \u2014 Sharing Reader Comments Soon!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"style3a\">Door Ding Protection<\/h3>\n<p>The other day, I received a comment on the blog asking, <strong>&#8220;How do you all protect against door dings?&#8221;<\/strong> Thinking about it, the previous 970 Panamera we had was fitted with a clear stone guard film, but for the current Panamera and Boxster, I haven\u2019t done any specific door ding protection.<\/p>\n<p>So, I did a little research on door ding protection, but all I found were the usual tips like <strong>&#8220;choose a wide parking spot,&#8221; &#8220;don\u2019t park next to cars with lots of scratches,&#8221; and &#8220;apply door edge protectors,&#8221;<\/strong> which made me think, &#8220;Well, that makes sense.&#8221; Maybe those are really the only practical measures.<\/p>\n<p>I also looked into door ding protection products, but many of them made me feel, <strong>&#8220;Even if they\u2019re practical, I really don\u2019t want to put these on because they ruin the car\u2019s design.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Our Approach<\/h3>\n<p>There are three types of door ding protection:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">\u2460 Measures to prevent door dings from happening <strong>(Prevention)<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2461 Measures to minimize damage if a door ding occurs <strong>(Mitigation)<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2462 Measures to restore the damage after a door ding has happened <strong>(Repair)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In our case, we only do \u2460. When we go shopping at supermarkets or malls with the Panamera, even if it means parking a bit farther from the entrance, we try to park in spots where there are no cars nearby.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-791 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/20170625135554-e1530666352264-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"Porsche Panamera Edition 970\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7003 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/20171202095931-800x600-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Also, for example, if there\u2019s a wall or pillar on the left side and no risk of parking on the left, I park as close as possible to the right white line, giving off a strong <strong>&#8220;Don\u2019t even think about parking next to me!&#8221;<\/strong> vibe <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(I know it\u2019s a bit of a selfish parking move\u2026 sorry)<\/span>. Basically, I try to reduce the risk as much as possible when parking.<\/p>\n<p>However, on weekends at shopping mall parking lots or smaller parking areas, it\u2019s not always possible to park spaciously, so in those cases, there\u2019s not much you can do. So far, I\u2019ve never been the cause or victim of a door ding, but I want to keep my precious Porsche as scratch-free as possible.<\/p>\n<p>That said, <strong>how do you all usually protect your cars from door dings?<\/strong> Please share your methods and recommended products in the comments.
