An Unexpected GT3<\/h3>\n

The other day, just after lunch, I suddenly got an email from my husband. \u201cI just heard from Mr. H that a slot opened up for the GT3 Touring! If we\u2019re buying, we have to decide the specs right away, so I\u2019m heading to the Porsche Center now!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wha-what!? (\uff1b\uff9f\u0414\uff9f)<\/span><\/p>\n

Me: \u201cDo we even have parking space?! What about the Boxster!?\u201d
\nHim: \u201cThat can wait! We can\u2019t miss this chance!\u201d<\/p>\n

So about an hour and a half later, I got another email: \u201cI placed the order!\u201d<\/strong> Honestly, I never imagined my husband would decide to buy a 911 GT3 so quickly.<\/p>\n

My Husband\u2019s Ideal \u201cPurebred 911\u201d<\/h3>\n

He had always said, \u201cIf I buy a 911, I want the most solid, purebred 911 possible. But it\u2019s hard to find one with the specs I want.\u201d<\/strong> When the 911 Carrera T was released last year, he said, \u201cThis is great!\u201d but…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Since the manual transmission (MT) version wasn\u2019t available in Japan, he gave up. Back then, he often grumbled, <\/p>\n

\u201cI get why PDK is good, but it\u2019s so disappointing that the Japanese 911 Carrera T doesn\u2019t come with a manual. If only it did, I\u2019d buy it. Why can\u2019t they offer the same options as in Germany? Even if limited in numbers or a bit pricier, I just want the choice…\u201d<\/p>\n

Later, when the GT3 with MT was announced, he got excited, saying, \u201cA 500-hp naturally aspirated engine with a manual? That\u2019s rare, maybe one of a kind!\u201d<\/strong> He even played with the configurator, but rumors said \u201cIt\u2019s uncertain if MT cars will officially come to Japan\u201d<\/strong>(not parallel imports)<\/span>, so he stopped seriously looking.<\/p>\n

Decided the Specs in 30 Minutes<\/h3>\n

Then, the 911 GT3 Touring was released.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is amazing! A GT3 without the wing! At first glance, it\u2019s a \u2018GT3 that doesn\u2019t look like a GT3\u2019\u2014what a classy car ( \uff9f\u2200\uff9f)!\u201d<\/p>\n

He was instantly captivated, though (he\u2019s not one for flashy things and prefers subtle branded items that only those in the know recognize<\/a>)<\/span>. But rumors said \u201cIt might not be officially introduced in Japan\u201d<\/strong>, and the Japanese configurator website didn\u2019t offer the Touring Package option, so he had pretty much given up, thinking \u201cIt probably won\u2019t come to Japan.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

One day, by chance, he met a Porsche owner on the Royu Driveway who told him, \u201cThere are official imports of the GT3 Touring in Japan.\u201d<\/strong> He immediately contacted his dealer rep, Mr. H, and asked, \u201cIf a slot opens for the 911 GT3 Touring, please reserve one for me.\u201d<\/strong> Mr. H said the chances were slim, so he didn\u2019t expect much.<\/p>\n

Then one day, the dealer called: \u201cLuckily, we have a slot for the GT3 Touring. If you can decide quickly, we can secure it.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cI can buy the new 992 later, but this GT3 Touring is only available now!\u201d<\/p>\n

He made the decision on the spot. When he got home, he was still in disbelief: \u201cI ordered the GT3 in just 30 minutes…\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

He chose the GT3 Touring in the body color he had always wanted: Crayon, with the optional PCCB (Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes).<\/strong> I\u2019ll share more details about the specs later.<\/p>\n

Apparently, this GT3 Touring will be produced around February 2019, with delivery expected late April or just after Golden Week.<\/p>\n

When I asked, \u201cWhat about the 981 Boxster GTS?\u201d he said, \u201cI just changed the tires recently. It\u2019s a great car, so I\u2019ll keep it for now. It\u2019s an expensive purchase and maintenance will increase, but I\u2019ll work hard and earn more.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Found the GT3 Brochure<\/h3>\n

While my husband was excited, I had almost no knowledge about the GT3 or the Touring, so I just replied with a lukewarm \u201cOh, really?\u201d So I decided to look at the GT3 brochure he got from the dealer.<\/p>\n

I remembered a few years ago, when I wasn\u2019t interested in cars at all, he said, \u201cGT3 is awesome!\u201d<\/strong> but I said, \u201cWhat\u2019s with that wing? Looks like a street racer! If you buy it, I\u2019ll take that wing off at night!\u201d<\/strong> (-_-).<\/p>\n

But strangely, after I started liking Porsche and got interested in cars, that wing grew on me and I thought, \u201cActually, it\u2019s cool because it has that wing.\u201d<\/strong> Yet, just as I started to like the wing, my husband chose the no-wing version… (LOL)<\/p>\n

The 911 GT3 brochure is quite thick. Flipping through it, I saw the phrase \u201cBorn in Flacht.\u201d<\/strong> The 911 GT3 is made in a place called Flacht. I\u2019d never heard of it before.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Flacht is the home of Porsche Motorsport in the Swabia region of Germany.<\/strong> It\u2019s a cutting-edge complex near the Weissach Development Center, where the 911 GT3 Cup, 911 RSR, and 919 Hybrid were born. Not only are engines, transmissions, and chassis assembled here, but in a construction hall over 12,000\u33a1, vehicles are developed from scratch.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Next to it is a passage: <\/p>\n

Porsche engineers pour their experience from all kinds of racing into their work, pursuing perfection every day. At the end of the day, they might think, \u201cIt can\u2019t be improved any further.\u201d<\/strong> But the next morning, they ask themselves, \u201cCan it be made even better?\u201d<\/strong> To be 0.01 seconds faster, 1% more agile, 1 gram lighter. This mindset alone creates Porsche\u2019s finest cars.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Amazing… I feel many people love Porsche because of this attitude too.<\/p>\n

What Makes the 911 GT3 So Special?<\/h3>\n

The brochure explains many of the GT3\u2019s charms.<\/p>\n

Engine<\/h4>\n

The engine is a newly designed 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six derived from the 911 GT3 Cup. It produces 368 kW (500 PS) and 460 Nm of torque. This engine is mounted low at the rear, accelerating from 0 to 100 km\/h in just 3.4 seconds, with a top speed of 318 km\/h. (For MT, 0-100 km\/h is 3.9 seconds, top speed 320 km\/h)<\/span> The rev limit (maximum engine speed)<\/span> is an astonishing 9,000 rpm. The pure sound of this high-performance naturally aspirated engine is a major part of the GT3\u2019s appeal.<\/p>\n

Wow… truly the pinnacle of NA engines.<\/p>\n

Lightweight Body<\/h4>\n

The body uses a composite of aluminum and steel<\/strong>, with lightweight polyurethane on the front and rear ends.<\/strong> The rear lid, rear spoiler, and uprights are carbon fiber<\/strong>, and titanium is used for the connecting rods.<\/strong> No wonder it\u2019s so expensive.<\/p>\n

Standard Rear Axle Steering<\/h4>\n

Our Panamera Turbo has optional rear axle steering, but the 911 GT3 comes standard with it. This system electronically controls the rear wheels to steer based on driving conditions, steering input, and speed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At low speeds, the rear wheels steer opposite to the front wheels,<\/strong> effectively shortening the wheelbase and reducing turning radius, allowing more dynamic cornering.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

At high speeds, the rear wheels steer in the same direction as the front wheels,<\/strong> increasing stability like a longer wheelbase and improving agility by steering both axles simultaneously. This is especially helpful for overtaking on circuits or lane changes on highways.<\/p>\n

Since this feature is on the 911 and not on the much larger Panamera, it\u2019s no wonder the GT3 is so nimble.<\/p>\n

High-Performance Brakes<\/h4>\n

The 911 GT3 is equipped with an extremely powerful braking system, including a brake booster tuned specifically for the car\u2019s performance.<\/strong> The brakes use two-piece cast iron discs and aluminum calipers,<\/strong> reducing unsprung and rotational mass significantly. They deliver strong stopping power even in bad weather or under the harsh conditions of motorsports.<\/p>\n

You can \u201cfeel the joy even in the moment of deceleration.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The price exceeds 20 million yen including tax, but considering the lightweight body, high-performance engine, and brakes, \u201cthat price makes sense.\u201d<\/strong> Adding options easily pushes it over 25 million yen.<\/p>\n

The Touring Package<\/h3>\n

Here it is: the Touring Package. The GT3 offers an option for a no-wing \u201cTouring Package.\u201d<\/strong> This package is designed for enjoying driving in a variety of situations, not just on the track.<\/strong> Without the wing, it looks much like a regular 911 at first glance, but its performance is described as a \u201cwolf in sheep\u2019s clothing.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cA true GT sports car fused with calm sophistication.\u201d<\/strong> This unique Porsche style balances two seemingly contradictory qualities. My husband muttered, \u201cI like that it balances contradictions. Those who understand, understand; those who don\u2019t, don\u2019t. That\u2019s the beauty. There\u2019s an aesthetic in that…\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Delivery in Four Months…?<\/h3>\n

I found some test drive videos of the 911 (991.2) GT3 (MT) online. They said \u201cThe ride is very supple\u201d and \u201cThe clutch is lighter than expected,\u201d<\/strong> so it seems very natural to drive. It looks quite suitable for daily use.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d love to drive the GT3 when it arrives, but since it\u2019s again a \u201cmanual two-seater,\u201d<\/strong>…<\/p>\n
