Although the break-in period isn\u2019t over yet, I\u2019ve been driving it almost every day, including on the Royu Driveway and highways, and I\u2019d like to share my impressions so far. (My husband\u2019s review will follow later.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25996\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_4052.jpg\" alt=\"Suzuki Swift Sport\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To sum it up, it\u2019s a <strong>fast, light, fun, and incredibly cost-effective car<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a car with solid basic performance that clearly reflects the driver\u2019s skill. That makes it very rewarding and enjoyable to drive. Even though I\u2019ve only had it for a week, I can say from the bottom of my heart that <strong>I\u2019m so glad I bought it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"First_Impressions_of_the_Suzuki_Swift_Sport\"><\/span>First Impressions of the Suzuki Swift Sport<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>First of all, the Swift Sport is faster than I expected. The acceleration in second gear is light, smooth, and exhilarating, but what\u2019s really impressive is that it accelerates strongly in <strong>third, fourth, and fifth gears too\u2014at any speed range.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s so smooth and lively that you might wonder, <strong>\u201cDoes it have an electric motor in there?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-25993\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/824E6725-3ECD-49F2-AA4E-A4E3AD22B8F3-1280x959.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"959\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Equipped with a 1.4L direct-injection turbo engine producing 140 horsepower, it feels more powerful and torquey than the numbers suggest, probably because it weighs under one ton (970 kg). Even on fairly steep hills, it climbs strongly in third gear, which is impressive.<\/p>\n<p>Also, its perfect balance of power and compactness makes city driving a real pleasure. Handling this car with a manual transmission gives a <strong>strong sense of unity and partnership with the car.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite its light weight, it also impresses with a solid planted feel.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25998\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_4043.jpg\" alt=\"Suzuki Swift Sport\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve driven several compact cars from other manufacturers in the same price range before, but honestly, their suspensions felt unreliable, and I couldn\u2019t fully trust or feel safe in them.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, the Swift Sport, designed with driving enjoyment in mind, has a firm suspension that makes even slow turns at city intersections fun. Yet, it\u2019s not as stiff as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/nissan-note-nismo-s-202007\/\">Note e-POWER NISMO S<\/a> we had before, offering some compliance and a comfortable ride.<\/p>\n<p>The way the shift lever engages is also wonderfully satisfying.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25999\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_0072.jpg\" alt=\"Suzuki Swift Sport (MT)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"674\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not as crisp and precise as a modern Porsche\u2019s shifter, but it\u2019s easy to operate and has a slightly soft, squishy feel that makes you want to shift just for fun (laughs).<\/p>\n<p>The clutch is light, and the engagement point isn\u2019t too strict, so you don\u2019t have to worry much when starting off, making it easygoing to drive.<\/p>\n<p>However, it doesn\u2019t have a hill-hold function, so when starting on a slope, the car may roll back a bit (you can use the handbrake, but I don\u2019t), but it\u2019s not difficult to manage.<\/p>\n<p>On the highway, <strong>there\u2019s no complaint about acceleration when merging; it\u2019s actually very quick and enjoyable.<\/strong> It also cruises stably at high speeds, so there\u2019s no feeling of instability or nervousness from the light weight.<\/p>\n<p>Lane changes are very smooth as well.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unbelievable that such a well-built, fun car can be bought new for just a bit over 2 million yen.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Downsides_of_the_Swift_Sport\"><\/span>Downsides of the Swift Sport<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>On the downside, <strong>road noise is quite loud.<\/strong> Even driving at normal speeds on national roads, the road noise is noticeable, and it gets louder on the highway.<\/p>\n<p>Because of this, the sensation of speed feels stronger on highways, and driving long distances from home to places like Fuji Speedway (\u2026which is quite far, haha) might be a bit tiring.<\/p>\n<p>However, <strong>my husband plans to install sound-absorbing and vibration-damping materials inside the car,<\/strong> which should significantly reduce the road noise. (I\u2019ll write about that later too.)<\/p>\n<p>Also, this isn\u2019t really a downside but rather part of what makes driving engaging\u2026 Unlike a modern Porsche, it lacks advanced electronic controls, so if you take corners on the Royu Driveway at a certain speed without much thought, <strong>the body roll is quite large and the car tends to drift outward.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That means you need to sharpen your senses to understand <strong>where the load is on the car and how it\u2019s moving<\/strong> and drive with a good understanding of the car and road conditions.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26001\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/IMG_4054.jpg\" alt=\"Swift Sport\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At first, that was a bit intimidating, but gradually I\u2019ve come to feel that <strong>it\u2019s great practice for driving, and thinking and feeling your way through it is really enjoyable.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m still far from fully trusting the car and driving as one with it, but I think <strong>if I could drive this Swift Sport as naturally as an extension of my body, it would be incredibly fun.<\/strong> It\u2019s a car that motivates me to improve my driving skills to that level.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, my husband said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">I haven\u2019t fully opened my heart to the Swift Sport yet either, but the dialogue with its behavior is interesting. Also, it holds its ground pretty well in corners and feels more stable than I expected, so I feel like I can trust the car more than I thought.<br \/>\nRumor has it the next Swift Sport will be a hybrid, so this might be the last pure gasoline engine Swift Sport. I think we bought it at a great time, and it\u2019s worth taking good care of it for a long time.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve only driven about 300 km so far, but it\u2019s truly fun and offers unbeatable cost performance.
