{"id":37229,"date":"2021-10-06T06:00:49","date_gmt":"2021-10-05T21:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/?p=37229"},"modified":"2021-10-07T10:10:38","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T01:10:38","slug":"porsche-911-1-first-impre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/en\/entry\/porsche-911-1-first-impre\/","title":{"rendered":"Used Porsche Purchase Story \u2461\uff5cThe 991.1 911 Carrera 4 GTS Has Arrived at Our Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The other day, I wrote an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/porsche-911-1-get-202109\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article about purchasing a 991.1 911 Carrera 4 GTS<\/a>, and today, continuing from last time, I\u2019d like to share the delivery day and my first impressions.<\/p>\n<div id=\"ez-toc-container\" class=\"ez-toc-v2_0_74 counter-hierarchy ez-toc-counter ez-toc-grey ez-toc-container-direction\">\n<div class=\"ez-toc-title-container\">\n<p class=\"ez-toc-title\" style=\"cursor:inherit\">\u30b3\u30f3\u30c6\u30f3\u30c4<\/p>\n<span class=\"ez-toc-title-toggle\"><\/span><\/div>\n<nav><ul class='ez-toc-list ez-toc-list-level-1 ' ><li class='ez-toc-page-1 ez-toc-heading-level-3'><a class=\"ez-toc-link ez-toc-heading-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/en\/entry\/porsche-911-1-first-impre\/#Delivery_Day\" >Delivery Day<\/a><ul class='ez-toc-list-level-4' ><li class='ez-toc-heading-level-4'><a class=\"ez-toc-link ez-toc-heading-2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/en\/entry\/porsche-911-1-first-impre\/#Heading_to_Ibukiyama_Driveway\" >Heading to Ibukiyama Driveway<\/a><\/li><li class='ez-toc-page-1 ez-toc-heading-level-4'><a class=\"ez-toc-link ez-toc-heading-3\" href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/en\/entry\/porsche-911-1-first-impre\/#Highway_Drive_Home\" >Highway Drive Home<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><\/nav><\/div>\n\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Delivery_Day\"><\/span>Delivery Day<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>After preparing and sending the necessary documents, <strong>about three weeks later, the delivery day finally arrived.<\/strong> You can pay extra to have the car transported on a carrier, but I chose not to. <strong>As a true Porsche enthusiast who believes the car is meant to be driven,<\/strong> the real meaning of delivery is to pick it up yourself and drive it home.<\/p>\n<p>The event of \u2018delivery\u2019 includes receiving the car at the dealership and the drive back home.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, I planned to take the Shinkansen from Kansai to Nagoya, but when <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ueno_takuro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TAKURO-san<\/a> heard about it, he kindly offered to come along, so I gratefully accepted his offer for a ride.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-25804 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/F7AA6230-22E7-4AC0-AEBA-5C75F61BF0B1-scaled-e1632838409704-1280x736.jpeg\" alt=\"981 Boxster GTS\" width=\"1280\" height=\"736\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We met up in Osaka city, and TAKURO-san arrived in his 981 Boxster GTS. \u201c<strong>For a GTS delivery, come in a GTS!<\/strong>\u201d \u2014 such thoughtful consideration was truly appreciated.<\/p>\n<p>The two of us, both middle-aged guys, got into the Boxster and headed straight for Nagoya via the Meishin and Shin-Meishin Expressways. Inside the car, the conversation was almost entirely about cars and Porsches. <strong>We bantered back and forth, excitedly chatting as our little road trip continued.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-25806\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/076C3BFD-78CA-44C8-90D1-88B9DB2F6505-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We arrived in Nagoya just after noon and headed to the dealership. Upon arrival, I signed the paperwork and listened to the explanations. Since the sales rep knew I had owned several Porsches before, they skipped the usual vehicle usage briefing and handed me the keys.<\/p>\n<p>In the dealership parking lot, TAKURO-san got back into his 981 Boxster GTS, and I climbed into my freshly received 991.1 Carrera 4 GTS.<\/p>\n<p>When I started the engine, <strong>TAKURO-san, standing next to me, jumped in surprise at the deafening cold start roar.<\/strong> Later, he told me the sound was really loud and caught him off guard.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Heading_to_Ibukiyama_Driveway\"><\/span>Heading to Ibukiyama Driveway<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>After the first refuel at a nearby gas station, we decided it would be a shame to just head straight home, so <strong>we planned to take a run on the Ibukiyama Driveway before returning.<\/strong> From Nagoya city, we took the highway for about an hour to reach the Sekigahara IC.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-25773\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/16EE331A-C974-4FAB-BCBC-01CE35F8D727-1280x898.jpeg\" alt=\"991.1 911 Carrera 4 GTS\" width=\"1280\" height=\"898\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The 991.1 GTS is very easy to drive even in the city. Although it has a naturally aspirated engine, it\u2019s torquey and responsive. Once on the highway, I switched to Sport mode at the merge and pressed the accelerator a bit. Then, <strong>a thunderous roar blasted from behind.<\/strong> The sound was thick and powerful, with about 10% more presence than the 981 GTS.<\/p>\n<p>At a stoplight, I got a message from TAKURO-san behind me: <strong>\u201cThe sound is insane!\u201d<\/strong> Later, I learned the outside sound was even louder than inside the car. This generation of GTS really puts a lot of effort into its sound performance.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-25780\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/47B17CEE-8215-4156-B3AE-092A4669FF82-1280x720.jpeg\" alt=\"Ibukiyama Driveway\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-25778\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/32F1E8AE-88FB-4F6E-951C-740FBBA0026D-1280x720.jpeg\" alt=\"Ibukiyama Driveway\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From the entrance of the Ibukiyama Driveway, I switched to Sport mode and manual paddle shifts. Since it was a weekday evening, the road was almost entirely ours.<\/p>\n<p>The first half featured some tight uphill corners. With more power than the Boxster, the 991.1 was quite fast. Compared to the turbocharged 992, it lacks a bit in instantaneous acceleration, but the naturally aspirated engine\u2019s torque build-up feels fantastic. <strong>The sensation of speed, torque, and sound rising in harmony is addictive.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I thought I was driving smoothly and confidently through the corners, but TAKURO-san told me later, <strong>\u201cYou were insanely fast!\u201d Apparently, I was left behind on corner exits.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Indeed, compared to the rear-wheel-drive 911, the all-wheel-drive 911 lets you start applying throttle a moment earlier on corner exits. With a typical RR 911, you tend to wait until the car\u2019s orientation changes before pressing the accelerator, which feels safer. But <strong>with the AWD 911, you can confidently start applying throttle as soon as the front tires turn, giving a reassuring sense of control.<\/strong> So, while the driver feels relaxed and comfortable, the pace is actually quite brisk.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-25782\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/A00D599B-A302-4DEA-8769-D2F01331A07B-1280x720.jpeg\" alt=\"Ibukiyama Driveway\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As we neared the summit, the scenery opened up to breathtaking views. It\u2019s a beautiful mountain winding road. I slowed down a bit, switched the paddle shifters back to automatic, and cruised to the top.<\/p>\n<p>TAKURO-san also took a turn driving and said the car was <strong>\u201camazingly stable\u201d and \u201cglides forward with a flat attitude.\u201d<\/strong> He felt confident pushing the car through any corner.<\/p>\n<p>For more on his impressions, TAKURO-san shared his thoughts during a Space session on 9\/25, so if you\u2019re interested, please check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/asp-products\/2021-9-25%e3%81%ae%e9%85%8d%e4%bf%a1%e3%82%b3%e3%83%b3%e3%83%86%e3%83%b3%e3%83%84\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recording<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Highway_Drive_Home\"><\/span>Highway Drive Home<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>We parted ways at Ibukiyama and headed home.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-25761\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/F85E8348-CDDE-4A5C-B610-8BD138D0D9C6-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"981 GTS and 991 GTS\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-25775\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/9834EF7A-6DE5-46D7-AB19-34D17CDD1422-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The weather worsened as the day went on, and it started raining heavily on the highway home. Even so, <strong>the Carrera 4 GTS showed outstanding stability. This is truly an all-weather 911.<\/strong> It handled rain and puddles as if they weren\u2019t there. While the flat ride at high speeds can\u2019t quite match the GT3, its straight-line stability is very high. Compared to the 992 Carrera Cabriolet, it\u2019s a close match, but the GTS\u2019s louder exhaust gives a stronger sense of speed. Overall, it inspires great confidence.<\/p>\n<p>High-speed corners and acceleration for passing were never lacking, and <strong>the way it accelerates with a thrilling sound, syncing speed and pitch, is addictive.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since it\u2019s a used car, I was a bit worried about common issues like steering wheel center offset or alignment problems affecting straight-line stability, but there were no issues at all. There is a slight creaking noise from the interior on rough roads, but that can be fixed with adjustments at the dealer later.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-25777\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/687A570E-D3E0-47BF-84BC-2487DB11A0C3-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"991.1 911 Carrera 4 GTS\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Overall, I feel I made a great purchase this time. The car is very satisfying and of high quality.
