The turning point was the Audi A4 I bought for family use. It was an excellent car, and for the first time, I felt I could trust a car completely while driving it.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2212 Growing Interest in Porsche<\/h4>\n<p>Around that time, I started wondering, <strong>&#8220;What kind of cars does Porsche, the pinnacle of German sports car manufacturers, create?&#8221;<\/strong> My interest in Porsche grew, especially after learning about the 919 Hybrid&#8217;s success at Le Mans and the impressive hybrid technology. However,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">\u2460 Adaptive cruise control<br \/>\n\u2461 Traffic jam assist<br \/>\n\u2462 Rear axle steering<\/p>\n<p>were options I definitely wanted. Traffic jam assist is incredibly effective in reducing fatigue and stress during long drives and traffic jams, so it was a must. Although the dealer said rear axle steering wasn&#8217;t necessary, I decided to include it after reading comments on Mina&#8217;s husband&#8217;s blog.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7317 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/image1-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2212 Favorite Features<\/h4>\n<p>One of my favorite details is the <strong>high gloss black finish on the window trim<\/strong>. The contrast with the white body is stunning. I considered matching the mirrors, door handles, and air intakes in gloss black, but after seeing a Panamera with that setup on display, I felt it was a bit much and opted for just the window trim.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7319 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/image10-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2212 Convenient Rear 2+1 Seats<\/h4>\n<p>With a family of five, a four-seater was not an option, so I initially considered the Panamera Sport Turismo<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"> (five-seater)<\/span>. Then I discovered the <strong>&#8220;Rear 2+1 seats&#8221; option, which allowed me to keep the Panamera&#8217;s design I loved while accommodating five people.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7323 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/image5-800x450.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Even with a child seat in the center, there&#8217;s enough space for adults on either side.)<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">3) The Delivery Process<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2460 August 28: First Visit to the Dealer<\/h4>\n<p>They said, &#8220;We don&#8217;t have an allocation for the 2018 Panamera 4E-Hybrid, but it seems other state dealers do, so we&#8217;ll ask if we can swap.&#8221; The next day, I received a call saying, &#8220;You can order it. Come back if you&#8217;re interested!&#8221;<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2461 August 31: Order Completed at the Dealer<\/h4>\n<p>Delivery was scheduled for the end of January.<br \/>\n&#8230;No contact for over a month.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2462 October 11: Called to Check on Progress<\/h4>\n<p>&#8220;Hold on, let me check. Oh, it&#8217;s leaving the German port tomorrow. We should be able to deliver it by early November.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2463 November 10: Arrived at the Dealer<\/h4>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ll complete the registration and can deliver it early next week. You can pick it up or we can deliver it\u2014your choice.&#8221; I decided to pick it up myself.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2464 November 12: Delivery Day!<\/h4>\n<p>&#8230;Or so I thought, but there was a paperwork issue, so I had to wait another day. I took a short drive around the dealer area.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2465 November 13: Decided on Delivery<\/h4>\n<p>The dealer representative drove it to me right on time. <strong>&#8220;I doubt a dealer rep would personally deliver a car in Japan,&#8221;<\/strong> I thought, but I didn&#8217;t mind the details (laughs). After driving around the neighborhood and learning various settings, I dropped off the rep, who left with a big &#8220;Enjoy!!&#8221; smile.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">4) Performance Impressions of the Panamera<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2460 Engine<\/h4>\n<p>The engine I compare it to is the V6 twin-turbo from my previous Maserati Ghibli. While it&#8217;s a bit odd to compare it to a hybrid engine, the 4E-Hybrid&#8217;s motor and engine synchronization is remarkable. It accelerates seamlessly from any speed, transitioning from motor assist to turbo engine. <strong>&#8220;This is truly a modern race car!&#8221;<\/strong> I couldn&#8217;t help but feel excited.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7324 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/image11-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<h5 class=\"style5a\">\u2212 Acceleration from a Standstill<\/h5>\n<p>Especially from a standstill, the motor&#8217;s responsiveness allows for instant acceleration without the turbo engine&#8217;s lag, pressing you into the seat as you accelerate. If engine acceleration feels like &#8220;stretching out,&#8221; the motor feels like &#8220;being launched.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"style5a\">\u2212 Vehicle Weight Handicap<\/h5>\n<p>The Panamera weighs 4784 lbs compared to the Ghibli&#8217;s 4122 lbs, a difference of 660 lbs (297 kg). Some reviews criticize hybrids for this weight, but <strong>in everyday use, I don&#8217;t encounter situations where this is a disadvantage.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h5 class=\"style5a\">\u2212 Acceleration Feel<\/h5>\n<p>The acceleration feels superior to the Ghibli. Thanks to the motor, maximum torque is available from a low 1100 rpm to 4500 rpm, which is a major factor. This E-Hybrid&#8217;s power and torque are most noticeable in Sport and Sport+ modes, but even in Hybrid mode, it&#8217;s impressive.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"style5a\">\u2212 Engine Mode &amp; E-Mode<\/h5>\n<p>Initially, when driving in &#8220;hybrid e-charge mode,&#8221; it felt like <strong>&#8220;driving with the engine while the motor is off,&#8221;<\/strong> but even in e-charge mode, the motor assists when needed.<\/p>\n<p>In E-mode, you can experience the motor&#8217;s quiet yet sufficient acceleration. With a maximum torque of 295 lb-ft from the motor alone, it&#8217;s very pleasant for city stop-and-go driving. Once accustomed, you might want to stay in E-mode, but <strong>its top speed is 137 km\/h, which can be limiting on highways flowing at 120-130 km\/h<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">. (Speed limits are 112-120 km\/h).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>While acceleration from zero is excellent, E-mode isn&#8217;t suited for mid-to-high-speed acceleration. However, pressing the accelerator deeper in E-mode starts the engine, so you won&#8217;t lag behind traffic.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2461 PDK<\/h4>\n<p>The PDK paddle shift response is quick for both upshifts and downshifts, and I think it can be very enjoyable in certain situations. Unfortunately, I haven&#8217;t had the chance to test it much due to the lack of winding roads nearby.<br \/>\nThe timing of AT upshifts and downshifts changes depending on the mode\u2014Normal, Sport, Sport+\u2014and this is noticeable even in city and highway driving. However, there aren&#8217;t many opportunities to use the paddle shifters.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7330 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/image8-800x561.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"561\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2462 Handling<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Having previously raced go-karts, I prefer sensitive steering responses, and the Panamera reminds me of that experience.<\/strong> It turns precisely as you steer, following the intended line.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"style5a\">\u2212 Benefits of Rear Axle Steering<\/h5>\n<p>The power steering feels generally light, more relaxed than the Maserati Ghibli. Setting the air suspension to Sport mode enhances steering sensitivity, allowing you to navigate large highway curves as if they were straight lines. This is likely due to the rear axle steering&#8217;s long-wheelbase effect.<\/p>\n<p>Even in large, circular highway exits, it maintains stability without oversteer or understeer, requiring no additional input. In Michigan, where U-turns are common, the rear axle steering&#8217;s short-wheelbase effect is beneficial.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, I needed the entire lane to turn, but now I can make tighter turns without strain. It&#8217;s a different sensation from oversteer, where the rear slides; instead, the car&#8217;s direction changes sharply. It&#8217;s hard to describe, but that&#8217;s the feeling.<\/p>\n<p>Parking requires some adjustment due to the unexpectedly tight turning radius, which can be surprising.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/porsche-owners-file-7-panamera4ehybrid\/2\/\"><strong>\u2192\u3010Next Page\u3011 Fuel Efficiency, Ride Comfort, Family Reactions, Rear Axle Steering&#8230;<\/strong><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2463 Fuel Efficiency<\/h4>\n<p>According to a dealer representative who also drives a Panamera 4E-Hybrid, <strong>&#8220;using it for a 10 km round trip between home and work,&#8221;<\/strong> they first refueled in October after starting in April<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"> (six months later!)<\/span>. The dealer also has a rapid charging station.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7331 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/image12-800x399.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"399\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For me, the distance to work is about 30 km, and I can barely make it one way in E-mode. Since there&#8217;s no charging station at work, I can&#8217;t replicate the dealer&#8217;s experience. However, I believe it&#8217;s possible for some people.<br \/>\n<strong>My Panamera currently shows about 15 km\/L (35 miles\/gallon), but with careful driving, it should go further.<\/strong> However, I can&#8217;t resist the temptation to floor it in Sport mode (laughs).<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2464 Ride Comfort and Feel<\/h4>\n<h5 class=\"style5a\">\u2212 Balancing &#8220;Sports&#8221; and &#8220;Comfort&#8221;<\/h5>\n<p>The body construction gives a solid sense of rigidity. I usually set the air suspension to Medium. In city driving, the benefits of the Hard &amp; Low Sport+ mode are mainly felt when taking highway ramps or intersections at speeds above the limit.<br \/>\nIn E-mode and Hybrid mode, the ride is relaxed, and <strong>it&#8217;s the first time I&#8217;ve experienced a car that balances &#8220;sportiness&#8221; and &#8220;comfort&#8221; so well.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h5 class=\"style5a\">\u2212 Adaptive Cruise Control<\/h5>\n<p>Regarding ride comfort beyond the engine, handling, and suspension, let&#8217;s talk about assist features. This is a comparison with the Volvo XC90. <strong>Adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist is incredibly convenient.<\/strong> It&#8217;s essential for long highway drives at constant speeds and navigating traffic jams.<br \/>\n<strong>The Panamera&#8217;s sensors are excellent,<\/strong> comparable to Volvo&#8217;s highly regarded system. There&#8217;s minimal stress when resuming speed after the car in front moves or decelerating for cut-ins.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"style5a\">Lane Keep Assist<\/h5>\n<p>Next, about lane keep assist. Mina&#8217;s blog mentioned the car drifting right, but I haven&#8217;t experienced that; it seems to maintain the center. Some may dislike the odd feedback when assist kicks in, but I found Volvo&#8217;s system more mechanical and uncomfortable.<br \/>\n<strong>In that sense, I prefer the Panamera&#8217;s subtle lane keep assist.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One concern is that <strong>it occasionally makes unnecessary corrections at intersections, possibly reacting to something else.<\/strong> I&#8217;m not sure if it&#8217;s just my imagination or the reason behind it. Also, when crossing lanes, a warning sound is emitted, but I think steering vibration would be a better alert.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2465 Family Reactions<\/h4>\n<p>The design and driving have received high praise from my family. The kids say it&#8217;s <strong>&#8220;much better than the Maserati Ghibli.&#8221;<\/strong> The reasons are twofold: <strong>&#8220;It&#8217;s quieter&#8221; and &#8220;the rear seat comfort is better.&#8221;<\/strong> It seems I was the only one who enjoyed the Maserati&#8217;s high-pitched engine sound. The rear seats are indeed better than the Maserati&#8217;s, with more space and softer seats, which is appreciated by passengers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7327 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/image6-800x372.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"372\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Left: Maserati Ghibli, Right: Panamera. The Panamera offers significantly more legroom, reducing the risk of seat-kicking and dirt.)<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2466 Favorite Points<\/h4>\n<p><strong>The Marsala interior color and acid green brake calipers<\/strong> are my favorites. The Marsala interior is unified in one color for the seats, steering wheel, and console. It&#8217;s a burgundy that appears brownish under certain lighting, offering a sophisticated and luxurious feel.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7318 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/image4-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><br \/>\n<strong>The acid green brake calipers highlight that this Panamera is a hybrid, adding a color accent that I love.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2467 Other Aspects<\/h4>\n<p>As a first-time PHV owner, <strong>&#8220;installing a charging port on the garage wall and charging upon returning home&#8221; is a fresh experience.<\/strong> In the U.S., it takes 13-14 hours to fully charge at the standard 110V, but installing a 220V outlet reduces it to 3-4 hours. However, there&#8217;s rarely a need for such quick charging unless it&#8217;s a fully electric vehicle like Tesla.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7325 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/image7-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(This type of charging port is easily DIY-installed with just two screws.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Additionally, <strong>there&#8217;s a diamond-marked button on the right side of the steering wheel, which can be assigned various functions.<\/strong> I&#8217;ve set it to &#8220;LIFT&#8221; for raising the vehicle height, which is convenient for avoiding scrapes on bumps or entering multi-story parking lots.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7328 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/image9-450x800.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">5) Must-Have Options for Future Porsche Purchases<\/h3>\n<p>While not an option, I aspire to own a PHV and eventually a Porsche EV. I&#8217;m also intrigued by the rumors of a hybrid 911 and curious about what kind of car it will be. As technology in this field continues to evolve, I look forward to experiencing these advancements.<br \/>\nFor the long Panamera, rear axle steering is essential, and assist features are a must for me, especially during traffic jams.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">6) Areas of Concern<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Brakes<\/h4>\n<p>I&#8217;m concerned about the brakes. According to Mina&#8217;s article, <strong>&#8220;Porsche brakes tend to squeal and are very effective.&#8221;<\/strong> The E-Hybrid&#8217;s brakes have excellent stopping power, but due to regenerative braking, they feel slightly less firm. Compared to the Ghibli&#8217;s brakes, which had a strong bite, these feel more subdued.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s a drawback, but considering it generates power for the next acceleration, it feels like modern F1 or the 919, which is exciting. So far, I haven&#8217;t experienced any &#8220;squealing.&#8221; It might be due to individual differences or because it&#8217;s an E-Hybrid, but if I had to mention a concern, it would be the brakes.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Smartphone App<\/h4>\n<p>Regarding the smartphone app, you can control features like precooling and preheating from the iPhone app, but the connection is somewhat unstable. There&#8217;s often a &#8220;Connection error.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7329 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/image2-800x463.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"463\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Right: Connection not available between the PCC server and the car is common)<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">7) Overall Impression<\/h3>\n<p><strong>I&#8217;m thoroughly satisfied with my decision to focus solely on the 4E-Hybrid.<\/strong> It&#8217;s impressive how it balances high-level sports driving and comfort daily.<br \/>\nThe Panamera 4E-Hybrid is a car that can satisfy everyone, depending on the mood and situation. When I want to experience Porsche&#8217;s &#8220;driving&#8221; alone, I switch to Sport mode; when I want a quiet, relaxed drive with my family, I use Hybrid or E-mode. Of course, there are times when I want to drive quietly alone, and it&#8217;s great that it can accommodate those moods.<\/p>\n<p>However, Porsche&#8217;s essence is sports driving. <strong>The Panamera E-Hybrid allows you to experience the speed, technology, and reliability proven by the 919.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">8) What Does Porsche Mean to You?<\/h3>\n<p class=\"well3\">An Encounter with the Unknown<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not well-versed in Porsche, and this is my first time driving one since delivery. I&#8217;m looking forward to the future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">\u3018Blog Administrator&#8217;s Thoughts\u3019<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s enviable that the Rear 2+1 seats option is available in the U.S. Also, SN&#8217;s report made me realize that no matter how much Porsche evolves, it remains a &#8220;sports car.&#8221; I would love to try a hybrid myself.
