I expected cool air to start blowing, but <strong>the \u201cshoo\u201d sound never stopped, and only lukewarm air came out.<\/strong> This is the third year since I bought it, and the AC had been relatively effective, so I immediately noticed something was wrong.<\/p>\n<p>After driving for a while, sometimes the air felt a bit cooler than the outside temperature, but it was never cold enough to cool the cabin properly. Most likely, <strong>the air conditioning gas is running low, which is a common issue with air-cooled Porsches.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Refilling_the_Air_Conditioning_Gas\"><\/span>Refilling the Air Conditioning Gas<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I promptly contacted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/2018\/05\/23\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">our trusted mechanic, Beeforce<\/a>, and scheduled an AC inspection along with an oil change.<\/p>\n<p>From our conversation, I learned that for Porsches of this era, even if there\u2019s no obvious leak, the AC gas will inevitably decrease little by little over time. A common leak point is often around the evaporator piping.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-7161\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_0052-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Air-cooled Porsche engine bay\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To find out whether there was an actual leak or just natural depletion, we decided to refill the AC gas and add a fluorescent dye to pinpoint any leak locations.<\/p>\n<p>So this summer, I\u2019ll keep an eye on it and keep driving as is. <strong>If the AC gas runs out quickly again, we\u2019ll use the dye to identify the leak.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_Does_the_Air_Conditioning_Perform_After_Refilling\"><\/span>How Does the Air Conditioning Perform After Refilling?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>After also having the oil and filter changed, the engine felt even smoother when I started driving. <strong>The last oil change was in November, so it had been about 4,000 km and 8 months since the previous one.<\/strong> Modern cars don\u2019t show much difference after an oil change, but with older cars, the effect is much more noticeable.<\/p>\n<p>After driving for a bit, the \u201cshoo\u201d sound quickly stopped, and cool air properly blew from the vents. It can comfortably cool the cabin up to around 30\u00b0C. This is very comfortable.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, many people don\u2019t really understand how to use the AC levers on this model. Moving the upper lever to the right maximizes airflow from the gap between the front windshield and dashboard, while moving it to the left directs airflow from the dashboard vents. The lower lever controls footwell airflow\u2014left is minimum, right is maximum.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-24650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/4A1C3AFF-7C20-42AB-A0DE-9AF861595492-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"964 air conditioning controls\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So, <strong>basically, it\u2019s best to keep both levers to the left during summer driving.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lately, I rarely see air-cooled Porsches around the neighborhood. <strong>Perhaps because it\u2019s summer and prices have surged, more owners are carefully storing them away.<\/strong> But I don\u2019t care about that\u2014I want to drive mine hard and often.
