Would you allow it?\u201d A cold response to a full-time housewife\u2019s question<\/p>\n<p>The family consists of a 47-year-old husband, a 42-year-old wife, and a second-grade elementary school child\u2014so probably a family of three.  <\/p>\n<p>The husband currently drives an old Toyota Sienta, but recently said, \u201cWhen I went to a company dinner, all the female employees wanted to ride in their subordinates\u2019 or colleagues\u2019 Lexus, Crown, or the new Harrier. Nobody wanted to ride in my car, and I felt embarrassed. <strong>I want to replace my car with a brand-new Lexus RX<\/strong>.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23932\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/img_gallery_05.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The wife\u2019s perspective was,  <\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">Sure, it might look good to mom friends and others around us, but my husband rarely drives, so I don\u2019t want him to buy such an expensive car. More importantly, <strong>I want to allocate money for our child\u2019s future and our retirement.<\/strong> By the way, we currently have 80 million yen in financial assets including savings and investment trusts, but I don\u2019t want to spend 10% of the money we\u2019ve worked so hard to save.<\/p>\n<p>So she consulted Yahoo! Chiebukuro (a Q&#038;A site).  <\/p>\n<p>In the end, most responses supported the husband, saying, \u201c<strong>Your husband earns that much, so let him drive the car he likes<\/strong>,\u201d and the wife decided, \u201c<strong>We\u2019ll try to save by cutting his bonus allowance and move forward with the purchase<\/strong>.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>I see\u2026 Also, 80 million yen in financial assets is impressive!  <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Does_the_Husband_Think_About_This\"><\/span>What Does the Husband Think About This?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>When I asked my husband, \u201c<strong>There was an article like this. What do you think?<\/strong>\u201d he said,  <\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Yeah\u2026 There are wives who oppose their husbands buying sports or luxury cars even though they have income. But I think those wives unconsciously believe, \u201c<strong>My husband won\u2019t be able to earn more in the future<\/strong>.\u201d On the surface, they might not think that, but <strong>unconsciously, that\u2019s what they believe<\/strong>, so they oppose it.<br \/>\nSome might say, \u201c<strong>It\u2019s realistically hard to earn more as a salaried worker<\/strong>,\u201d but with side jobs and asset management, there are plenty of ways to increase income.<br \/>\nBut wives who oppose this kind of thing <strong>believe there\u2019s a ceiling on income<\/strong>. That\u2019s basically <strong>denying their husband\u2019s potential<\/strong>.<br \/>\nFor example, in the case of the article, if the husband says he wants a new RX, I\u2019d want the wife to say, \u201cWhat? An 8 million yen RX!? If you\u2019re going to buy one, you should go for something like a 15 million yen LS!\u201d That kind of response would make the husband go \u201c<strong>Whoa!<\/strong>\u201d and think, \u201cI need to earn more, I need to work harder.\u201d If the wife is like that, the husband will grow more and more. Of course, it depends on the husband\u2019s personality and ability.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23933\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/img_gallery_12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I see\u2026 Listening to my husband, I thought maybe those wives don\u2019t trust themselves enough either, beyond just doubting their husband\u2019s potential.  <\/p>\n<p>If they don\u2019t have confidence they can endure or overcome a worst-case scenario\u2014like if the husband gets demoted or fired\u2014they might be desperately trying to protect a safe, secure situation.  <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Psychology_Behind_Couples_Opposing_Each_Other\"><\/span>The Psychology Behind Couples Opposing Each Other<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Life is full of \u201c<strong>what ifs<\/strong>,\u201d and unexpected things can happen. But even if the husband suddenly got fired,  <\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">we could move to a cheaper place, or in the worst case, sell everything and live with my parents. Also, if I start working, that would help a bit, and while living off our savings, the husband could look for another job, so we\u2019d manage somehow.<\/p>\n<p>If you can think like that, maybe your perspective changes.  <\/p>\n<p>When I was in my 20s, I started a business without knowing much, and especially financially, I struggled quite a bit. When money ran out, I walked three stations\u2019 worth for about an hour, bought cup noodles in bulk on sale days, and survived on cup noodles for every meal. I also had many miserable and humiliating experiences.  <\/p>\n<p>But from that experience,  <\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">\u201cEven earning just 10,000 yen from nothing is really hard, so I want my husband to freely use the money he works hard to earn. I got through that tough time, so I believe I won\u2019t be shaken by small things going forward\u2014I\u2019ll be fine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That experience was so profound it changed my outlook on life.  <\/p>\n<p>So now, if my husband says, \u201c<strong>I want to do this, I want that<\/strong>,\u201d unless it\u2019s something life-threatening, I don\u2019t oppose it\u2026 at least for now, haha.  <\/p>\n<p>Even if it ends with \u201c<strong>That was a mistake<\/strong>,\u201d the experience won\u2019t be wasted and will become valuable wisdom. If it goes well, we get a success story and move up a stage. Either way, there\u2019s something to gain, so not trying isn\u2019t an option.  <\/p>\n<p>This might be a bit off-topic, but opposing your husband\u2019s wishes might ultimately reflect a lack of trust and confidence in yourself. And when \u201c<strong>a husband opposes what his wife wants to do<\/strong>,\u201d it might be the same thing in reverse.  <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Elite_School_Theory_and_Luxury_Cars\"><\/span>The Elite School Theory and Luxury Cars<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>My husband also said this about the topic:  <\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">I once learned about the \u201c<strong>Elite School Theory<\/strong>.\u201d For members of a high school baseball team that regularly goes to Koshien, \u201c<strong>going to Koshien is a given<\/strong>,\u201d but for members of a school that\u2019s never been there, \u201c<strong>Koshien is a distant dream, there\u2019s no way we can go<\/strong>.\u201d This mindset alone, beyond skills, <strong>greatly affects the chances of making it to Koshien.<\/strong><br \/>\nIn other words, the environment you grow up in greatly changes your baseline expectations, and those can unknowingly become mental blocks when you try something.<br \/>\nSo wives who oppose buying sports or luxury cars probably grew up with the mindset that \u201c<strong>buying such cars is unthinkable<\/strong>.\u201d<br \/>\nWell, whether that\u2019s good or bad is hard to say, but I want our kids to grow up with as few mental blocks as possible. If you have mental blocks, even if you have the ability to achieve something, if you think it\u2019s impossible from the start, it will never happen.<br \/>\nFortunately, our kids don\u2019t think of <strong>Porsche as something special<\/strong> at all\u2014they probably think, \u201cIf I want one in the future, I can buy it.\u201d At least, it\u2019s not a distant dream.<br \/>\nI want them to live free from societal norms and not assume \u201cI can\u2019t do it\u201d from the start, not just financially but in every way.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23934\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/img_gallery_01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Every family has its own circumstances, values, and ways of living. Also, when children are born, there are more things to protect, so you can\u2019t always do things the same way as before.  <\/p>\n<p>But life is only once, so when faced with decisions, I hope we can choose the exciting option, even if it involves some risk, rather than just protecting the status quo.
