A Change of Heart Triggered by Royu<\/h3>\n

The other day, after participating in the \u201cSunday Morning Gathering at Royu Driveway<\/strong>\u201d<\/a>, I experienced a big shift in my mindset. The \u201cme who had absolutely no interest in cars until a few years ago<\/strong>\u201d and the \u201cme who chose an automatic-only license without hesitation 19 years ago at driving school<\/strong>\u201d \u2014 I never imagined a day like this would come\u2026 and I\u2019m the most surprised of all.<\/p>\n

I truly feel, \u201cyou never know what life will throw at you<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2026But since that sounds vague, let me get straight to the point:<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve decided to buy an MT car myself.<\/p>\n

\u2026What,<\/span><\/p>\n

Whaaaaat (\uff9f\u0434\uff9f)!!!!???<\/span><\/p>\n

I can almost hear people saying, \u201cHey Mina, did you hit your head or something?<\/strong>\u201d but honestly, without any lies or exaggeration, this is exactly what I\u2019m thinking right now.<\/p>\n

What Driving an MT Opens Up…<\/h3>\n

As I briefly mentioned in my recent Royu article<\/a>, the kind owner kindly offered me to drive their 718 Boxster GTS (MT)<\/strong>, but my husband stopped me before I could.<\/p>\n

\u201cMina, it\u2019s impossible for you. You\u2019ll break the clutch, so don\u2019t even try.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

At the time, I understood perfectly \u2014 \u201cIt\u2019s their precious Porsche, and I\u2019m not confident enough with MT driving yet, so that\u2019s only natural<\/strong>.\u201d But as five, ten minutes passed, frustration started to well up inside me.<\/strong> Watching others confidently handle their MT Porsches and drive off with style only made that frustration grow bigger and bigger.<\/p>\n

If I could drive an MT car without problems, I would have had the chance to drive the 718 Boxster GTS on that day.<\/strong> The 718 Boxster GTS is such a rare model that even asking for a test drive at a dealer is usually impossible.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

A long time ago, there was an English school slogan that said, \u201cIf you can speak English, you can talk to a billion people<\/strong>,\u201d and the same applies to MT driving.<\/p>\n

If you can drive an MT, you can drive almost any car in the world (except large trucks and such)<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Surely, your world expands dramatically. Yet here I am, missing out on so many opportunities.<\/strong> Or maybe it\u2019s just my stubborn competitive streak kicking in, haha.<\/p>\n

A Woman Who Masters Porsche MT Cars<\/h3>\n

Lately, I\u2019ve started thinking this way:<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to become a cool woman who confidently drives a Porsche MT.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Looking around, there aren\u2019t many women who can handle MT cars well.<\/strong> So if I could drive a Porsche MT with style on the Royu Driveway or cruise through town handling an MT car (though no one around would even realize it\u2019s an MT)<\/span>, that would be incredibly cool.<\/p>\n

I think this desire comes from my contrarian streak that likes to do things differently from others.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Back in elementary school on a field trip to Itsukushima Shrine in Miyajima, Hiroshima, everyone was buying the famous souvenir \u201cshamoji (rice paddle)<\/strong>,\u201d but because everyone was buying the same thing, I deliberately bought a \u201cpasta server\u201d instead. (Like this one\u2193)<\/span><\/p>\n

When I gave it to my mother after returning home, she immediately said,<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, no, Miyajima means \u2018shamoji<\/strong>\u2019! And besides, we hardly ever eat spaghetti at home!<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

I still remember how strongly she reacted. I guess I was a bit odd (-_-).<\/p>\n

Anyway, back to the point: because I have a contrarian streak that likes to do things differently<\/strong>, and because there are so few women who can drive MT cars, I want to be one of those women who can drive an MT car.<\/strong><\/p>\n

My Porsche MT Car<\/h3>\n

You might say, \u201cIf you want to drive MT so badly, why don\u2019t you just practice more?<\/strong>\u201d but our Boxster GTS is a two-seater.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

That means if I want to practice driving with my husband sitting beside me (I\u2019m still too scared to go alone)<\/span>, I have to arrange for someone to watch the kids, like when we went to Royu Driveway recently and my mother-in-law looked after them.<\/p>\n

Thinking about it, unless I have an MT car that can seat four or more people so the kids can ride along, it\u2019s tough to practice MT driving regularly.<\/p>\n

Plus, since the Boxster is my husband\u2019s cherished first Porsche that fulfilled his childhood dream, I can\u2019t help but worry about scratching it, crashing it, or messing up the clutch.<\/strong> So I can\u2019t just practice carelessly.<\/p>\n

Before I knew it, time passed without me practicing MT driving at all (totally just an excuse, I know, haha)<\/span>.<\/p>\n

My husband says,<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy don\u2019t you just slap a beginner\u2019s mark on the next GT3 Touring (MT)<\/span> and practice? No one will come near you, haha.\u201d<\/p>\n

But honestly, I don\u2019t think that\u2019s a good idea, and besides, a GT3 is a two-seater too… I\u2019d be even more nervous than with the Boxster.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

While reflecting on my frustration at Royu Driveway, an idea popped into my head:<\/p>\n

Why not just buy a Porsche MT car myself<\/strong>?<\/p>\n

Saying \u201cjust buy it!<\/strong>\u201d sounds easy, but honestly, I don\u2019t have that kind of money, haha. Still, if it\u2019s my own Porsche, I wouldn\u2019t have to worry about \u201csomeone else\u2019s precious car<\/strong>\u201d and could drive it as much as I want.<\/p>\n

So I started searching used car sites right away, but Porsche MT cars are expensive<\/strong> (of course, haha)<\/span>. Even when I found something that looked cheap, it usually had very high mileage or was an older model, and my husband said, \u201cEven if you buy it cheap, maintenance will cost a fortune.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

So it seems like jumping straight into a Porsche MT car is impossible for me right now\u2026 (-_-)<\/p>\n

If I just want to practice MT driving, maybe I could buy a cheap Japanese MT car, but in the past, I was \u201cgood at driving the comfort car at driving school but totally lost it in the Boxster<\/strong>,\u201d and even when I drove my brother\u2019s Subaru Legacy (MT), he said, \u201cYou\u2019re getting the hang of it<\/strong>,\u201d but when I got home and drove the Boxster again, I was still no good.<\/p>\n

So I want an MT car that feels as close to a Porsche as possible.<\/p>\n

…That means a Volkswagen Golf<\/a>, huh\u2026<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I started browsing online for \u201cGolf\u201d and other promising MT cars. When I consulted my husband, he said,<\/p>\n

A Golf GTI MT<\/strong> that\u2019s not heavily modified would be good, right? Also, a BMW 3 Series FR MT would be great for learning the basics.<\/strong> Honestly, I kind of want one myself, haha.<\/p>\n

So maybe that\u2019s the way to go. But to be honest, since I\u2019m a woman, I\u2019d rather spend money on removing facial spots and whitening first.<\/p>\n

But if I keep thinking like that, I\u2019ll never become the cool woman who confidently drives a Porsche MT<\/strong>\u30fd(`\u0414\u00b4)\uff89!<\/p>\n
