It was on the front left side of the car.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-10692\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_2045-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I hadn\u2019t noticed it at all, so I asked people on Twitter what they thought might have caused it. The replies included:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">\u30fbMaybe a payment machine at a paid parking lot\u2026 Ouch!<br \/>\n\u30fbCould it have been a bicycle?<br \/>\n\u30fbOur Golf 7 has a scratch in exactly the same spot. My wife finally admitted she\u2019d scraped it against a curb.<br \/>\n\u30fbLooking closely, the scratch seems deep and not quite straight. It looks more like something hit and gouged the car than the car scraping against something as it drove.<br \/>\n\u30fbMaybe a concrete block wall.<\/p>\n<p>A concrete wall does seem plausible\u2026 Neither my husband nor I could think of anything we\u2019d done, but <strong>I\u2019ve been driving the Golf more often lately<\/strong>, so there\u2019s a good chance I scraped it somewhere.<\/p>\n<p>Lately, I\u2019ve also been thinking that I\u2019m \u201c<strong>more absent-minded than ever<\/strong>.\u201d The other day, after picking up our eldest daughter from kindergarten, I stopped at the supermarket\u2014and left her kindergarten bag hanging on the shopping cart when I headed home. <strong>I didn\u2019t realize it was missing until much later that night<\/strong>, so I rushed back to the supermarket just before closing to pick it up.<\/p>\n<p>And this wasn\u2019t the first time. I\u2019ve done it several times.<\/p>\n<p>Since I\u2019m often this forgetful, I suspect I was probably responsible for the scratch on the Golf, too.<\/p>\n<p>The scratch was <strong>too deep for me to fix myself<\/strong>, so I decided to have a nearby gas station repair it. I went with the same place that had recently hand-washed the car<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"> (they did a great job and the service was excellent)<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-10703\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_2052-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">A Toyota Aqua Loaner<\/h3>\n<p>I dropped off the Golf in the morning and was told the repair would be finished by the evening. They offered me a loaner car in the meantime. I walked toward it thinking, \u201cThat\u2019s a Prius\u201d\u2014but it turned out to be an Aqua!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-10696\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_2053-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From the rear, it does look a lot like a Prius.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-10695\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_2097-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Apparently, this generation of the Aqua sits 45 mm lower than the Prius, giving it a slightly sportier look. <strong>The interior was more upscale than I expected, with a stylish design<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-10697\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_2048-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-10699\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_2050-1-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-10700\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_2051-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My first drive in an Aqua left me thinking, \u201c<strong>It\u2019s really easy to use as a runabout<\/strong>.\u201d When I first started driving, the car felt a little unsettling: the body didn\u2019t feel particularly rigid, the steering was light, and there was a lot of slack in the accelerator and brake pedals. Once I got used to it, though, it was perfectly easy to drive.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-10704\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_2104-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Its compact size makes it easy to park just about anywhere, and it zipped through narrow shortcuts I\u2019d usually rather avoid. And <strong>since it\u2019s a hybrid, fuel economy is excellent<\/strong>. This may sound a little odd, but I liked that I could drive it without worrying about \u201c<strong>What if I bump into something?<\/strong>\u201d or \u201c<strong>How much is gas going to cost?<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That said, I didn\u2019t get much sense of the joy of driving. It wasn\u2019t the kind of car that made me want to drive anywhere and everywhere, like the Golf or a Porsche<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"> (though it\u2019s hardly fair to compare them\u2026)<\/span>. Even though it was a loaner, I only used it for grocery runs and kindergarten pickup.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">How Much Did the Golf Scratch Repair Cost?<\/h3>\n<p>That evening, I got a call saying the repair was done. I was eager to pick up the Golf\u2014and as for the scratch\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-10701\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_2083-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Amazing\u2026 it had disappeared completely. The pros really know how to make a repair look good. They\u2019d also washed the car while they had it, so the Golf came back looking shiny all over.<\/p>\n<p>The scratch repair came to \u00a526,000, including tax.
