Luckily, I had the opportunity to test drive a Macan Turbo, so here\u2019s that review.<\/p>\n<p>The Macan Turbo I drove this time is a 2015 model. The Macan hasn\u2019t had a full model change yet, so the 2015 model is still considered the current generation, although it\u2019s a pre-facelift version since there have been several minor updates.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-23291\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/08745077-2C33-4A80-987A-8E5393EB3927-1280x720.jpeg\" alt=\"Macan Turbo engine\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_23288\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23288\" class=\"wp-image-23288 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/00FF7F88-5097-465E-9D65-1FE8FB16F73B-1280x720.jpeg\" alt=\"Macan Turbo exhaust\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-23288\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Square exhaust tips exclusive to the Turbo<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The engine isn\u2019t the current 2.9L but a 3.6L V6 twin-turbo producing 400PS and 550N\u22c5m of torque. This car isn\u2019t equipped with the sports exhaust system, but even so, the engine and exhaust sounds are bold and impressive for an SUV.<\/p>\n<p>With a top speed of 266 km\/h and 0-100 km\/h acceleration in 4.6 seconds, there\u2019s absolutely no disappointment in its power delivery. Low-end torque is more than sufficient. The launch is smooth, and the PDK\u2019s shift shocks are minimal.<\/p>\n<p>This car was equipped with air suspension with PASM, which is excellent. As I mentioned in my previous Macan Turbo review, I personally really like the Macan\u2019s air suspension setup.<\/p>\n<p>It retains a refined, luxurious tire rolling feel while maintaining a strong connection to the road and a very flat ride. Switch to Sport or Sport Plus mode, and it transforms into a sports car\u2019s suspension.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_23293\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23293\" class=\"wp-image-23293 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/46CBAC10-DDB1-482D-85FD-82616EF0111E-1280x720.jpeg\" alt=\"Macan Turbo wheels\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-23293\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">20-inch RS Spider design wheels<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Compared to the current Cayenne\u2019s suspension, the Cayenne feels more luxurious. But don\u2019t get me wrong\u2014this doesn\u2019t mean the Macan is less sporty or less luxurious.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s just that the Cayenne\u2019s ride comfort is exceptionally good.<\/p>\n<p>The Macan\u2019s suspension feels like it\u2019s firmly glued to the road with a very solid core. It never wobbles or feels unstable under moderate lateral G-forces. When driving over rough surfaces, you do hear some bumps, but the impact is very mild and well-damped.<\/p>\n<p>If I had to point out a difference from the Cayenne, it would be that the Macan\u2019s bumps and vibrations over rough terrain feel slightly more pronounced.<\/p>\n<p>However, this is purely comparative. For most people, I believe there would be almost no complaints about the Macan\u2019s ride comfort.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Driving_the_Macan_on_Mountain_Roads\"><\/span>Driving the Macan on Mountain Roads<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Taking corners on the Royu Driveway, my first impression was that it felt like driving a sports car with a much lower ride height.<\/p>\n<p>The Cayenne feels like a tall SUV that can still drive quite sportily, but the Macan feels like a more compact car with a low ride height.<\/p>\n<p>To put it in perspective, it feels like driving a car about the size of a Golf 7, with a width just over 1800mm and a height around 1500mm.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-23302\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/65E918B9-D682-49AE-9228-61556EC99033-scaled-e1620721679812-1280x717.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"717\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s how impressive the Macan\u2019s agility is, considering its actual width of 1925mm and height of 1610mm. Its cornering confidence and speed are closer to a 911 or Cayman\/Boxster than a Panamera or Cayenne.<\/p>\n<p>Switching direction in an S-curve is smooth and quick, with weight transfer happening effortlessly, allowing you to power through corners comfortably.<\/p>\n<p>This particular model was equipped with Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, which surely helps. It turns so sharply it almost makes you laugh. When focused on driving, you completely forget you\u2019re in an SUV. It carves into corners aggressively.<\/p>\n<p>It feels like driving a sports car, and only when you ease off the speed and come back to reality do you think, \u201cOh right, this is an SUV.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve driven many high-performance cars here, and of course, there are faster cars than the Macan. But few cars handle as beautifully, intuitively, and fundamentally correctly as this one.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s what makes it a \u201cPorsche,\u201d I strongly feel.<\/p>\n<p>Other manufacturers rarely achieve this. Porsche\u2019s driving ease and honest behavior appeal deeply to human senses, making driving genuinely enjoyable.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Macans_Engine_and_Transmission\"><\/span>Macan\u2019s Engine and Transmission<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The engine is powerful, of course, and acceleration is more than satisfactory. The 0-100 km\/h time of 4.6 seconds matches the catalog specs. In Sport or Sport Plus mode, the burbling sound is a pleasant touch that really gets you excited.<\/p>\n<p>What stands out most is the transmission\u2014the PDK. One major difference between the Cayenne and Macan is their transmissions. The Cayenne uses a traditional torque converter automatic Tiptronic S, while the Macan uses the dual-clutch PDK.<\/p>\n<p>From what I\u2019ve heard, the Cayenne uses the Tiptronic S because it\u2019s designed for serious off-road use and towing, so Porsche deliberately chose that transmission.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-23289 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/5404645C-7A7D-404F-9D9C-13D88E372A6B-scaled-e1620721841434-1280x752.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"752\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The current Cayenne\u2019s Tiptronic S is a fantastic transmission, but in sporty driving, it can\u2019t match the PDK. The PDK in this Macan Turbo offers incredible responsiveness\u2014lightning-fast shifts.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, the sound during shifts is fantastic. Like the PDK in a 911, it shifts up with a sharp \u201cBashun! Bashun!\u201d and downshifts with a roaring \u201cBoon!\u201d perfectly matching revs.<\/p>\n<p>This really makes driving enjoyable. Any car enthusiast would smile uncontrollably experiencing this.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-23299\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/B8C64D0C-E277-498F-99E8-79227F4DC2E4-1280x720.jpeg\" alt=\"Macan Turbo\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Macan_%E2%89%92_911_Cayenne_%C3%B7_2\"><\/span>Macan \u2252 ( 911 + Cayenne ) \u00f7 2<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I deliberately drove slowly and then a bit sportily to fully enjoy the Macan, and it\u2019s clear it\u2019s similar to but quite different from the Cayenne. The car\u2019s character is quite distinct.<\/p>\n<p>After the test drive, I thought about who the Macan is best suited for. Assuming no constraints on parking space or budget, if you already own a 911 or Cayman\/Boxster and are considering a second Porsche, you might want to wait.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s because the Macan\u2019s sporty character overlaps somewhat with the 911 and similar models.<\/p>\n<p>So if you\u2019re choosing a second Porsche, the Cayenne might be a better choice.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, if you want a 911 or Cayman\/Boxster but need to carry family and can only own one car, I think the Macan is better than the Cayenne. The Macan is sporty enough to satisfy solo weekend runs on winding roads.<\/p>\n<p>If I were to express the Macan in a formula, it would be:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Macan \u2252 ( 911 + Cayenne ) \u00f7 2<\/p>\n<p>From my test drive, the Macan\u2019s appeal isn\u2019t just power.
