Depending on the length of the holiday, it might be a 2-night, 3-day trip or even a week-long journey, with destinations ranging from Tohoku to Shikoku. His dream, he says, is to one day go on a nonstop touring trip for about a month (laughs).<\/p>\n<p>When you hear \u201ctouring,\u201d you might picture a fun trip where you drive your beloved car, visit sightseeing spots, and enjoy local specialties. But my husband\u2019s touring is quite different.<\/p>\n<p>He barely eats lunch and drives nonstop from morning till night\u2014sometimes for as long as 12 hours a day.<\/p>\n<p>What is this, some kind of ascetic training\u2026? (-_-)w<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23256\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/IMG_1434.jpg\" alt=\"Touring in a Porsche\" width=\"1200\" height=\"674\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The other night, I talked on the phone with him while he was on a tour, and his voice was hoarse. When I asked, \u201cWhat\u2019s wrong!?\u201d he said, \u201cI haven\u2019t spoken to anyone all day, so this is basically the first time I\u2019ve opened my mouth, which makes it hard to speak\u201d (laughs).<\/p>\n<p>When I once asked him, \u201cWhy do you go to such lengths to drive? Since you\u2019re going to a different place, don\u2019t you want to enjoy the local food or take it easy and rest?\u201d he replied:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">I don\u2019t need that. I\u2019m driving all the way to roads I usually can\u2019t reach because they\u2019re too far. If it were a family trip, sure, but for me, eating or relaxing would just be a waste of time. More than anything, <strong>I want to spend every single minute and second driving my car<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, when he returned from a recent long tour, he looked a bit thinner and his face seemed smaller (w).<\/p>\n<p>Also, when it comes to accommodations, he usually chooses Route Inn hotels rather than hot spring inns or fancy hotels.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23257\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/IMG_1930.jpg\" alt=\"Route Inn Hotel\" width=\"1200\" height=\"674\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When I asked, \u201cWhy do you always stay at Route Inn?\u201d he said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Route Inn hotels have pretty spacious parking lots. Also, many are located near highway interchanges, which is really convenient for touring. Plus, the rates are reasonable and they include a free breakfast, so it\u2019s a great deal. My tours usually have only a rough direction planned, and I often decide where to go on the day itself, so looking for a place to stay each time would be a hassle. Since Route Inn hotels are all over the country and offer almost the same service, I can just stay there and be sure it\u2019ll be fine. I\u2019ve stayed at Route Inns all over Japan, and I think I could even write a blog about the unique features and subtle differences of each one.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Touring_Is_Like_Ascetic_Training\"><\/span>Touring Is Like Ascetic Training<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>My husband loves cars and driving, so driving on beautiful roads across the country is his ultimate happiness. But solo touring is also \u201can important time for quiet self-reflection,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p>He uses the time to think deeply about his future goals and the company\u2019s direction, facing himself and pondering various things\u2026<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">For me, touring feels like a monk walking through the mountains for ascetic training (w). That\u2019s why I drive so strictly and intensely.<\/p>\n<p>He explained this to me once.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23258\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/IMG_1816.jpg\" alt=\"Touring in a Porsche\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When I first heard this, I thought, \u201cYeah, sure, you\u2019re just putting a nice spin on it~\u201d but after he returns from touring, he often says things like, \u201cI thought about a lot of things, but I\u2019m definitely going in this direction\u201d or \u201cI\u2019ve set a new goal,\u201d looking refreshed. So now I realize touring is really important to him in many ways.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Thoughts_Watching_My_Husband_Go_on_Long_Tours\"><\/span>Thoughts Watching My Husband Go on Long Tours<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>When I write about this, many people say, \u201cMina, you\u2019re such an understanding wife for not complaining about your husband going on long solo tours,\u201d but unfortunately, I\u2019m not that perfect a wife (laughs).<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not the type to \u201cendure and accommodate my husband\u201d or \u201csupport him devotedly.\u201d I just think, \u201cI get to have my freedom day to day, so he should have his freedom too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So when my husband goes on a solo tour, <strong>I take the kids and go back to my parents\u2019 house to get a break from daily housework and childcare<\/strong>. My parents are happy to see their grandchildren, and the kids enjoy playing with their grandparents, so it\u2019s a <strong>happy arrangement for everyone in our family<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On the flip side, if the situation were reversed and <strong>I couldn\u2019t have freedom while only my husband did<\/strong>, I\u2019m pretty sure I\u2019d go crazy with anger\u2026 <span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">(So I\u2019m definitely not a perfect wife, lol)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23259\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/IMG_1798.jpg\" alt=\"Touring in a Porsche\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Since we got married, my husband has told me,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">\u201cIf you want to be a full-time housewife, go ahead. If you want to work, go ahead. If you don\u2019t like cleaning or laundry, buy robot appliances or hire housework services. The important thing is <strong>you do what you want and stay happy<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And true to his word,<\/p>\n<p>whether I was pushing myself to work even when I was unwell, or decided to focus on childcare for a while, or started blogging because I wanted something beyond childcare to dedicate myself to, he always quietly supported me, saying, \u201c<strong>Do whatever you want, however you like<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So I hope I can also be someone who supports my husband\u2019s passions and desires from nearby.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re not at the stage where we can talk about marriage in depth yet, but through various experiences, I\u2019ve come to believe that <strong>\u201ca healthy distance and mutual respect\u201d are essential in a marriage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Because we trust each other, we don\u2019t interfere. Seeing my husband calmly handle things I could never do and overcome challenges while carrying many burdens, I\u2019ve recently come to think, \u201c<strong>Go ahead and take as many solo long tours as you want<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From now on, while watching over my husband\u2019s solo tours, I find it amusing that I\u2014who had zero interest in cars\u2014am now thinking, \u201c<strong>I hope he fulfills his dream of a nonstop month-long tour someday<\/strong>.\u201d I guess my husband has done a great job brainwashing me (laughs).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"My Husband\u2019s Touring Trips When my husband gets a long break, he often sets off alone on a long-distance driving tour.
