As before, it\u2019s mostly just nonstop driving with almost no sightseeing info, but please enjoy if you like.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Tohoku Boxster Touring Day 3<\/h3>\n<p>Day 3. Looking out the hotel window, the weather had completely changed to clear skies. The wind was strong, but it was perfect weather for top-down driving. Today, we\u2019d be cruising along the coast on Route 345 and Route 112, heading toward <strong>our first destination, Mount Chokai<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The sea was truly stunning.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11155\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC08277-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Boxster driving along the coast\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11167\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_6286-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Sea of Japan and Boxster\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11168\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC08291-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"View from Boxster speeding along the Sea of Japan\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11169\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC08307-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Inside the Boxster speeding through a tunnel\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With the roof down and topless, the Boxster seemed to say \u201c<strong>Finally!<\/strong>\u201d and felt noticeably lively. Turning on the sports exhaust, the flat-six boxer sound roared as we sped along the coast. At this point, music was unnecessary.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is the true joy of an open-top car.<\/strong> It\u2019s a truly extraordinary entertainment experience. You could say we drive a car with a retractable roof just for moments like this. The wind, light, and sound\u2014all transform into the perfect stage for the ultimate driving experience.<\/p>\n<p>We took K210 and drove the Chokai Blue Line, heading straight for Mount Chokai. Switching to Sport Plus mode and using gears 2 through 4, the Boxster climbed the elevation swiftly. The blipping sound on downshifts echoed through the mountains, and I found myself muttering to no one in particular.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11170\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC08335-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Inside the Boxster driving on Mount Chokai\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Boxster, you\u2019re really something&#8230;<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite it being Golden Week, there were few cars, and as we neared the summit, the outside temperature gauge dropped to around 5\u00b0C to 6\u00b0C, and the air felt distinctly different. Near the top, fog rolled in, and snow walls about 4 to 5 meters high lined the roadside, creating a magical atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11171\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC08350-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Inside the Boxster driving on Mount Chokai\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11172\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC08366-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Mount Chokai\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11162\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_6288-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Boxster at Mount Chokai\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Of course, even at this time, the Boxster\u2019s top stayed down. <strong>With the heater on, the cabin was perfectly comfortable.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Leaving the summit, the downhill run on the northern side of the Chokai Blue Line began. Partway down, a <strong>red 991.2 GT3 came charging up from the opposite direction.<\/strong> \u201cOh, a facelift GT3!\u201d I admired it briefly as we passed. I caught a glimpse of its proud figure in the rearview mirror and continued downhill in the Boxster.<\/p>\n<p>Later, I learned that <strong>the GT3 owner we passed was actually a reader of this blog.<\/strong> They contacted my wife on Twitter saying, \u201c<strong>You might have seen my Boxster at Mount Chokai<\/strong>.\u201d What an incredible coincidence.<\/p>\n<p>The northern side of the Chokai Blue Line offers breathtaking views. As we descended, the fog cleared, revealing <strong>a vast panorama with the Sea of Japan stretching out in the distance.<\/strong> I slowed the Boxster\u2019s pace and carefully navigated the corners, savoring the scenery.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11173\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC08410-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"From Mount Chokai summit heading north\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11174\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC08856-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Descending toward the foothills, a sign reading \u2018<strong>Chokai Green Line<\/strong>\u2019 appeared. It wasn\u2019t in the original plan, but I decided to try driving K312. The first half was like a wide agricultural road, allowing a pleasant pace. As we climbed higher, it seemed to lead to <strong>Nikaho Plateau.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wind turbines stood tall on the plateau, surrounded by wide grasslands.<\/strong> It felt like a smaller version of Kumamoto\u2019s Aso Milk Road. Mountains appeared and disappeared behind clouds in the distance. Even though it was Golden Week, traffic was almost nonexistent, making it feel like a private road. A wonderful driving route.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11176\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC08418-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Road to Nikaho Plateau\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11175\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC08907-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Nikaho Plateau\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-11160 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_6292-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Boxster at Nikaho Plateau\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11177\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_6190-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Boxster at Nikaho Plateau\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Leaving the plateau, we headed straight for the Sea of Japan, <strong>taking Route 7 to a hotel in Akita city.<\/strong> After soaking in the large public bath and recalling the day\u2019s scenery, I carefully stretched and went to bed early.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11179\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC08950-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Sunset over the Sea of Japan\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Tohoku Boxster Touring Day 4<\/h3>\n<p>The next morning, I quickly ate the hotel buffet breakfast and got ready. The Boxster sleeping in the parking lot was filthy from the long trip. <strong>The front mask was covered with bug splatter like whiskers. The rear bumper was darkened with dust and grime, and the sides were splattered with mud.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I wet a microfiber cloth at the hotel, sprayed plenty of diluted SurLuster Zero Water I brought along, gently lifted the dirt, wiped it off carefully, and was ready to go.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A clean car just seems to run better.<\/strong> Many of you have probably experienced that.<\/p>\n<p>Today, we headed inland instead of along the coast. First stop: Lake Tazawa. I remembered from elementary school social studies maps that it was the \u201c<strong>deepest lake<\/strong>.\u201d I\u2019d always wanted to visit.<\/p>\n<p>Taking Route 13, then Route 46, and Route 105, then K60, we reached the lakeside. <strong>The lake\u2019s surface was a stunning blue unlike any other lake I\u2019d seen before.<\/strong> We parked at a lakeside lot, rested while admiring the lake, then drove counterclockwise around it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11188\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC08425-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Road along Lake Tazawa\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11189\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC08983-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Lake Tazawa\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11190\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_6193-1-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Lake Tazawa and Boxster\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then we turned onto Route 341, aiming for Hachimantai and its superb mountain winding roads. The road was wide with gentle curves stretching endlessly. Such a wonderful road is rare in Kansai.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Wow, Tohoku is amazing.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My right foot naturally pressed harder on the Boxster\u2019s accelerator.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11161\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_6293-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>We entered the Hachimantai Aspite Line and chose a counterclockwise loop around Hachimantai.<\/strong> As the Boxster climbed, snow walls like those on Mount Chokai appeared along the roadside. It felt like the Shiga Kusatsu Kogen Route. As we neared the summit, tourist cars increased, but the stunning views made it hardly noticeable.<\/p>\n<p>Smooth curves continued, mixed with spoon curves on this fantastic course. <strong>While doing my humble heel-and-toe downshifts,<\/strong> I synced with the Boxster and climbed together.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11192\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/DSC08566-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Aspite Line and Boxster\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11159\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_6294-533x800.jpg\" alt=\"Hachimantai and Boxster\" width=\"533\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11157\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_6295-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"Hachimantai and Boxster\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After descending once to the foothills, we took K23 to head back up Hachimantai. This road had more tourists and sightseeing buses, so the pace was slower, but I enjoyed glimpses of Mount Iwate as we headed north again on Route 341.<\/p>\n<p>Passing through Kazuno city, I spotted a 970 Panamera Turbo resting at a gas station and thought, \u201cI\u2019d love to drive a Panamera in a place like this\u2026\u201d while reminiscing about the Panamera sleeping at home. Then we took Route 103 to Lake Towada. Route 103 was wide and lightly trafficked\u2014a super comfortable cruising road.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By the time we neared Lake Towada, the sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the lakeshore.<\/strong> We tried to stop at a lookout but gave up because it was full. We drove clockwise around Lake Towada on Route 454.<\/p>\n<p>However, this route had many small stones on the road surface and was narrow, making it unenjoyable. We endured it and headed for Aomori city.<\/p>\n<p>As we moved from Route 102 to Route 103, <strong>Mount Hakkoda came into view.<\/strong> This was another fantastic mountain winding road. Traffic was a bit heavy, but many cars yielded, so <strong>I didn\u2019t hesitate to blast past in Sport Plus mode in 2nd gear, flashing my hazard lights in thanks, and hurried on.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We took a short break at the Iwaki Mountain lookout to watch the sunset.
