By the way, this is my very first car ever, and I never dreamed that my first car would be a manual. <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Why that happened is explained here)<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"dflREEWOmI\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/i-get-bmw320i-mt\/\">\u4eba\u751f\u521d\u306e\u611b\u8eca\u3092\u8cfc\u5165\uff01BMW 3\u30b7\u30ea\u30fc\u30ba\uff08MT\uff09\u306b\u51fa\u4f1a\u3044\u3001\u6ce8\u6587\u3059\u308b\u307e\u3067\u3002<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe title=\"&#8220;\u4eba\u751f\u521d\u306e\u611b\u8eca\u3092\u8cfc\u5165\uff01BMW 3\u30b7\u30ea\u30fc\u30ba\uff08MT\uff09\u306b\u51fa\u4f1a\u3044\u3001\u6ce8\u6587\u3059\u308b\u307e\u3067\u3002&#8221; &#8212; \u30dd\u30eb\u30b7\u30a7\u304c\u308f\u304c\u5bb6\u306b\u3084\u3063\u3066\u304d\u305f - \u30aa\u30fc\u30ca\u30fc\u30ba\u30d6\u30ed\u30b0\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/i-get-bmw320i-mt\/embed\/#?secret=dflREEWOmI\" data-secret=\"dflREEWOmI\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>While waiting from order to delivery, my husband kept saying,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Are you really going to be able to drive it? Won\u2019t you end up wanting to buy back the Golf or something? lol<\/p>\n<p>But I kept reassuring myself, \u201c<strong>No, this time it\u2019s going to be fine, absolutely fine this time (-_-)<\/strong>,\u201d and kept replying like that the whole time.<\/p>\n<p>According to the weekly weather forecast, the delivery day was supposed to be \u201c<strong>heavy rain<\/strong>.\u201d I had already given up, thinking \u201cof course,\u201d but <strong>the forecast changed to sunny the day before.<\/strong> Just like the recent touring trip to Fukui, which was supposed to be rainy but turned out sunny\u2026 maybe I\u2019ve finally stopped being a rain woman! lol <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Though saying that might make it rain again)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>On the day, the BMW sales rep drove the 320i to our home, and we were going to swap it with our Golf, so <strong>I emptied all the stuff from the Golf and vacuumed it in the morning, ready for the handover.<\/strong> Seeing the two-shot with the Panamera for the last time felt quite emotional.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">From Delivery to First Drive<\/h3>\n<p>The delivery was in the evening, so my husband left work early to be home. As the delivery time approached, we all got a bit restless, waiting with \u201c<strong>any minute now, any minute now<\/strong>,\u201d when the rep called to say he had arrived in front of our house. The whole family went outside and\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11410\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_2711-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Oh wow, it\u2019s finally here!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Still, it didn\u2019t really feel real yet\u2026 After a while, the rep gave us a full rundown of the car\u2019s controls. <strong>The iDrive system was easy to use, and the audio sounded pretty good.<\/strong> I also learned for the first time that you can switch driving modes between Sport, Comfort, and Eco that day! lol<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11411\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_2686-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Afterwards, the rep checked the Golf, and since everything was fine, he said, \u201cThank you very much, I look forward to working with you,\u201d and drove off in the Golf. Goodbye, Golf\u2026 I\u2019d felt this before, but <strong>goodbyes are surprisingly quick and simple.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11416\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_2694-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After seeing the Golf off, I thought, \u201c<strong>Well then, might as well try driving it!<\/strong>\u201d so I let my husband take the wheel first. As soon as he started driving, he laughed and said,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">What is this?! It\u2019s totally different from the Boxster! This is so easy! <strong>There\u2019s no way you can stall this thing!<\/strong> Mina-chan can definitely handle this one!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11415\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_2701-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Is that so\u2026? Even watching from the side, it looked easy, and the shift shocks were barely noticeable. Then I noticed the fuel gauge had dropped a bit, so we decided to head to a gas station on the national road.<\/p>\n<p>And now, <strong>it was finally my turn to drive.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Telling myself, \u201c<strong>I can do this, I can do this<\/strong>,\u201d I adjusted the seat and steering wheel. I moved the shift lever through \u201c1, 2, 3, 4,\u201d thought \u201cNo use overthinking it, here goes!\u201d and bravely set off.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11421\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_0051-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I managed to get moving\u2026 but I had zero room to enjoy any conversation. At one point, I said, \u201c<strong>I\u2019m trying to shift into 2nd but it just won\u2019t go in (\uff9f\u0434\uff9f)!<\/strong>\u201d and my husband said,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Why? The shift lever is so light! You\u2019re just gripping it too hard!<\/p>\n<p>Then I said, \u201c<strong>I have no idea what gear I\u2019m in! There\u2019s no display!<\/strong>\u201d and he said,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Why not? You can tell by the engine sound or if the car feels strained \u2014 just by feel!<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, my husband was laughing hard beside me,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Seriously, you\u2019re so stiff. From the side, you look like that comedian\u2019s bit where he says, \u201c<strong>So stiff!<\/strong>\u201d lol<\/p>\n<p>Ah\u2026 that\u2019s the Zabungle Kato bit, right? The \u201c<strong>So stiff!<\/strong>\u201d joke (\u2013_\u2013) But at that moment, I really was \u201c<strong>so stiff!<\/strong>\u201d and couldn\u2019t deny it, so all I could do was laugh. Without a moment to recover, I kept driving, and then stopped at a gentle uphill traffic light.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here it comes \u2014 hill start.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I slowly let the clutch out while giving it some gas, and somehow managed to start moving without rolling back. \u201c<strong>Alright! Not bad!<\/strong>\u201d I got a bit cocky, then failed again\u2026 and kept repeating that as I drove on.<\/p>\n<p>Later, I cleared the biggest challenge for me \u2014 the hill in front of the station \u2014 smoothly on a green light, but by then I was drenched in sweat (lol).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_0052-800x680.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"680\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After that, maybe because I was getting tired, I stalled again starting from a normal stoplight. \u201c<strong>Oh no, oh no!<\/strong>\u201d I thought, but when I pressed the clutch, the engine automatically restarted.<\/p>\n<p>Wow \u2014 such a wonderful feature! I felt relieved. Despite stalling and being stiff, I somehow made it back home, when my husband said,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Let\u2019s test if the auto-hold really doesn\u2019t work on hills. Better to know before you drive tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>So we switched drivers and tried it on the hill in front of our house. The hold worked for about 2 seconds, then the car jolted backward. We tried several times with the same result, and my husband said,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">I\u2019ve heard about this \u201cHill Start Assist\u201d that holds the brake for about 2 seconds after you take your foot off the pedal on an uphill. This BMW has it! That\u2019s great!<\/p>\n<p>\u2026So that\u2019s why I didn\u2019t roll back earlier \u2014 it wasn\u2019t my skill after all (\u2013_\u2013). Despite all my worries, that was the end of my first drive.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-11423\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_2704-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The next day, I drove the BMW to drop off my eldest daughter at kindergarten, but I was still stiff and stalled multiple times, causing trouble for the cars behind me.<\/p>\n<p>However, that afternoon when I picked her up again, <strong>I was much calmer and drove smoothly.<\/strong> It\u2019s definitely a matter of getting used to it. Looks like I can manage after all.
