My Parents\u2019 Car Replacement Story<\/h3>\n

My parents have been thinking about changing their car since around last year. Since they\u2019re quite elderly now, they said, “the next car will be the last one. After that, I\u2019ll surrender my license.<\/strong>” So they want a car they can truly be satisfied with, more than ever before.<\/p>\n

Actually, my older brother is also a car enthusiast, so Dad consulted him recently and seems to have roughly decided on some candidate cars.<\/p>\n

Dad has been loyal to Toyota ever since he started owning cars, and he\u2019s currently driving a Prius. He doesn\u2019t seem to be considering anything other than Toyota going forward, but he said, “if I\u2019m going to get a car, I want something a bit bigger and cooler than the Prius. It can be used, maybe a C-HR would be nice.<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Later, when my parents came over to our house to babysit, my husband happened to be working from home and had some time to chat. Dad took the chance to ask him all sorts of questions about cars.<\/p>\n

Listening to their conversation, I once again thought, “it\u2019s really important to consult someone knowledgeable when buying a car.<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Whether it\u2019s cars, home appliances, or watches\u2014anything that costs a decent amount\u2014buying without knowing much carries the risk of “Oh no, this isn\u2019t what I expected\u2026!<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

And in such cases, you usually can\u2019t just say “I\u2019ll return it because it\u2019s not what I wanted<\/strong>” or “I\u2019ll sell it on Mercari and buy a new one<\/strong>,” so I realized it\u2019s crucial to have someone objective and knowledgeable guide you on “what points to look for<\/strong>” and “which cars suit your current situation<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n

For example, while browsing used car sites, Dad asked, “This one\u2019s super cheap and looks good! Why is it so cheap?” and my husband replied,<\/p>\n

That\u2019s because the wheels are stock and not very stylish<\/strong>. Also, the tire tread isn\u2019t very deep, so you might have to replace the tires soon after buying it.<\/p>\n

When Dad asked, “This one has low mileage and is cheap, why is that?” my husband answered,<\/p>\n

The interior and exterior ratings aren\u2019t great. You can\u2019t see much in the photos, but it seems to have various scratches. If you don\u2019t mind those kinds of scratches, it\u2019s fine, but if you wash the car yourself, you\u2019ll notice things like “this scratch is pretty deep<\/strong>” or “this one really stands out<\/strong>.” Also, I like to check the smell. I\u2019m concerned about pet odors or perfume smells lingering, so whenever I buy a car, even if it\u2019s far away, I always go see it in person first.<\/p>\n

and so on.<\/p>\n

My husband also shared lots of info about the C-HR and RAV4 with Dad, and I was really impressed, thinking, “he really knows his cars\u2026<\/strong>” He\u2019s familiar with almost all the latest cars from both domestic and international makers and often knows quite a lot in detail.<\/p>\n

Sometimes I wonder, “when does he find time to gather all this info\u2026 is he really working during the day\u2026? (-_-)<\/strong>” (laughs)<\/p>\n

As Dad listened, he said, “I thought it might be okay to buy a used car without seeing it in person if I liked it on the site, but it\u2019s better to actually go see it.<\/strong> If it\u2019s too far, I can\u2019t go, so I\u2019ll look around the Kansai area\u2026” He found one that looked good and said, “I\u2019m going to check it out now!” and headed out.<\/p>\n

Such decisiveness\u2026 lol<\/p>\n

A few hours later, Dad came back and said,<\/p>\n

Seeing it in person really makes a difference. The interior was cleaner than I expected. The smell wasn\u2019t an issue, and I got to talk with the salesperson, which was good. I think some good used cars will still come up, so I\u2019ll wait a bit longer.<\/p>\n

Come to think of it, when I bought my very first car, a BMW 320i<\/a>, it was the same\u2014my husband\u2019s advice helped me find a great car.<\/p>\n

I was only looking at mileage and price on used car sites, but my husband pointed out things like,<\/p>\n

“This one\u2019s modified, so I\u2019d avoid it<\/strong>” and “This one\u2019s cheap and good, but it\u2019s not a certified used car<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n

That said, it\u2019s hard to find a car in good condition within budget\u2026 and my husband said,<\/p>\n

Buying a car is about timing and connection. If you feel a spark, go for it. If it doesn\u2019t feel right, wait until the car you want comes along.<\/p>\n

Since I was a complete novice at buying cars, having someone knowledgeable by my side was very reassuring.<\/p>\n

A Car Consultation Service?<\/h3>\n

After my parents left, I joked, “Dad seemed glad to have someone to consult with. Come to think of it, I get purchase inquiries from all sorts of brands in blog comments and messages. Maybe you could have a job consulting people on car purchases<\/strong>,” and my husband laughed and said,<\/p>\n

Yeah, maybe I could do a \u201cCar Consultation Desk\u201d<\/strong> instead of \u201cInsurance Consultation Desk\u201d (laughs). Like, we\u2019d help you find the perfect car from all the brands and models out there, tailored just for you (lol).<\/p>\n

People buy cars for all kinds of reasons, and what they want varies a lot. Some care about performance, others prioritize fuel efficiency.<\/p>\n

Also, there\u2019s so much information out there, and it varies wildly depending on who\u2019s sharing it, so it\u2019s easy to get lost and not know what\u2019s best for you.<\/p>\n

Having someone close to consult with helps you organize your thoughts during the car selection process, get the info you need, and make a decision you\u2019re happy with.<\/p>\n
