Please enjoy reading it.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Abarth 595C<\/h3>\n<p>It seems my brother-in-law has bought another car. <strong>This time, it\u2019s an Abarth 595C\u2014the limited edition esseesse (Italian for SS = Super Sport).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Apparently, he was at the Ferrari dealer for negotiations when this car caught his eye. The conditions were good, so he decided to buy it.<\/p>\n<p>Honestly, he buys cars like he\u2019s picking up groceries&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Abarths are often seen on the Royu Driveway, mostly 595s, with the occasional 695. For some reason, many supercar owners\u2014Ferrari and Porsche included\u2014often have an Abarth as a second car.<\/p>\n<p>My wife has previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/abarth-mt-testdrive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">test-driven an Abarth<\/a>, but this was my first time behind the wheel.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-22048\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/31BABA90-1460-4C94-B150-B798B410B0F8-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Abarth 595C\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>This 595C is one of only 135 units nationwide, painted in Grigio Campovolo<\/strong>, a gray tone with a bluish tint somewhat like Porsche\u2019s Crayon color\u2014very stylish. It seems gray and matte finishes have become increasingly popular among imported cars recently.<\/p>\n<p>The transmission is an automatic (5-speed sequential transmission), a so-called semi-automatic. Unlike Porsche\u2019s PDK dual-clutch transmission, <strong>this is a simple automatic that handles the clutch operation automatically.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-22060\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/A821F345-0324-4D8F-AC80-59F67CCDED6D-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Abarth 595C\u2019s AT\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Because the model name includes \u201cC,\u201d <strong>the roof opens.<\/strong> Unlike a typical convertible, the roof slides backward while the C-pillar remains fixed.<\/p>\n<p>The exhaust is an Akrapovi\u010d system, and the suspension features KONI FSD shock absorbers. The 1.4L turbo engine has been tuned up to 180 HP, boasting a 0-100 km\/h time of 6.7 seconds.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Taking the Abarth 595C for a Spin<\/h3>\n<p>Once inside, <strong>the quality around the driver\u2019s seat and dashboard is impressively high.<\/strong> The seats are thickly padded, very rigid, and sporty yet comfortable. The view from the driver\u2019s seat feels like that of a high-end Italian sports car\u2014hard to believe it\u2019s a compact car.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the plastic on the door panels feels quite cheap, creating a stark contrast with the quality around the driver\u2019s area and dashboard\u2014one of this car\u2019s quirks.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-22063\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/3187335E-CE3D-4D4D-8422-1C941BE80108-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Abarth 595C interior\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-22059\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/3056826C-3F79-4290-A500-ADF43980CB40-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Abarth 595C seats\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-22056\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/80FF74E7-6EB1-4B6A-9AF6-1E15D6D78CDB-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Starting the engine, the sound outside is much better than inside. <strong>The volume is quite loud, with a deep but not overly bass-heavy tone.<\/strong> When revved, it produces a rhythmic, thrilling roar. The difference between the engine sound inside and outside is significant, and personally, I love the sound from outside.<\/p>\n<p>At first, knowing it\u2019s a single-clutch semi-automatic, I braced myself for some jolts, but <strong>it actually starts off surprisingly smoothly.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>However, if you keep the accelerator steady as you would with modern automatics, you\u2019ll feel sharp shift shocks. Each gear change causes torque to drop, making occupants\u2019 heads jerk back and forth.<\/p>\n<p>This feels like a poorly executed manual clutch engagement at low speed, not the harsh \u201cthud\u201d of old cars with unchanged AT fluid.<\/p>\n<p>With some practice, you learn the shift points, and <strong>lightly easing off the accelerator just before shifting makes the transitions smooth.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Switching to manual mode and using the paddles lets you shift like a manual car, which is fun.<\/p>\n<p>The shift speed itself isn\u2019t very fast, so it\u2019s not like a dual-clutch transmission; <strong>it\u2019s more like shifting a manual car.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-22065\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/96A40451-56DC-4224-AC48-B4DD4B840C50-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We started from city streets and headed to winding roads. <strong>The suspension is honestly quite stiff.<\/strong> Although equipped with KONI shock absorbers, even considering it\u2019s new, I\u2019d like a bit more supple vertical movement.<\/p>\n<p>However, the thick seats provide excellent comfort and hold, softening the impact significantly. So, <strong>it\u2019s not uncomfortable to the point of being unbearable.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That said, <strong>the suspension stroke is quite short, so there\u2019s a constant bouncing sensation.<\/strong> Our Nissan Note E-power NISMO S is also stiff, but this is even more so.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-22052\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/6EF5DEFB-FC53-4251-882B-59A542D0D798-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Abarth 595C wheels\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-22045\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/9FAA1D4B-898D-45B9-9375-9C42F8DF67CB-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Compared to the GT3, the 595C feels similar at low speeds, but at higher speeds, the GT3\u2019s ride comfort is far superior. If you plan to have your wife or girlfriend in the passenger seat, they might complain unless they\u2019re used to stiff suspensions.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I don\u2019t like this stiffness. I\u2019d prefer to try the standard model without the KONI shocks.<\/p>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/abarth-595c-my-brother\/2\/\"><strong>Next page \u2192 Attacking Tight Corners in Sport Mode!<\/strong><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Experiencing Various Driving Modes in the Abarth 595C<\/h3>\n<p>Switching to sport mode, we attacked tight corners. The engine response sharpened, and the power noticeably increased. It\u2019s rare to feel such a clear difference just by switching to sport mode.<\/p>\n<p>Given the car\u2019s small size and short wheelbase, I imagined it would be agile and dart around like a go-kart, but surprisingly, it\u2019s tuned for stability.<\/p>\n<p>The steering effort is somewhat heavy, and even while cornering, the steering wheel strongly resists, trying to return to center. This is the exact opposite of the McLaren 650S I used to own.<\/p>\n<p>So, <strong>it doesn\u2019t feel as quick or nimble as its looks suggest.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, <strong>the tires grip strongly, allowing confident cornering.<\/strong> I tested the TTC (Torque Transfer Control) on and off, but on public roads at a brisk pace, I didn\u2019t notice much difference.<\/p>\n<p>This car is sportier than your average compact car but doesn\u2019t have the wildness its appearance might imply.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I opened the roof while driving. The sense of openness is fantastic.<\/strong> The engine sound comes in from above, and since the Akrapovi\u010d exhaust sounds better outside, this open-top setup suits it perfectly.<\/p>\n<p>The roof opens in two stages, but <strong>fully open, the wind buffeting is quite strong,<\/strong> so stopping halfway offers better comfort.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-22062\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/61857505-C747-475F-B3BF-259ED4FB67A8-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Continuing through winding roads, we hit the highway. The wheelbase is only 2300mm\u2014shorter than Honda\u2019s N-WGN at 2520mm, making it even shorter than many kei cars.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d heard Abarths are stable at highway speeds but was somewhat skeptical.<\/p>\n<p>However, <strong>once on the highway, I was amazed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The straight-line stability is unbelievable for such a short wheelbase. Even at speeds where you lead the passing lane, there\u2019s no unease. It tracks perfectly straight.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike long-wheelbase cars, this stability doesn\u2019t come from length but from <strong>suspension tuning that keeps it straight.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Earlier, I mentioned the strong steering self-centering on winding roads; that setup pays off on the highway. The front tires\u2019 desire to run straight is clearly felt through the steering.<\/p>\n<p>On gentle curves where you slightly turn the wheel, you have to consciously maintain steering angle to avoid the car wanting to straighten out.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s how strong the <strong>straight-line stability<\/strong> is.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-22064\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/300FEBB0-BE04-4984-90DD-98EF802B709B-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So even at a brisk pace, the Abarth doesn\u2019t falter. <strong>For such a tiny car, it cruises the highway with ease, keeping up with larger vehicles.<\/strong> Despite its kei car-like size, its stability is worlds apart from a kei car.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s an exaggeration, but it feels like the difference between a car and a bicycle.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m truly impressed by the tuning that achieves this straight-line stability with such a super-short wheelbase. It\u2019s clearly a product of the Autostrada heritage.<\/p>\n<p>After about an hour and a half of driving, what initially felt like a harsh ride had transformed into a pleasant experience. The Abarth left me with a satisfying sense of having really driven.
