(\u3010Update 2021\/9\/7\u3011The Japanese version is now available.)<\/p>\n<p>However, it was so popular that last year it was hard to find in stock. <strong>Only this year did stock finally become available,<\/strong> so I imported two units from the US\u2014one for a friend and one for myself.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-21905\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/14CA78E1-2396-49BA-8C06-BA5E00738993-1280x720.jpeg\" alt=\"PCCM\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I imported mine from the American <a href=\"https:\/\/www.suncoastparts.com\/product\/SKUCLASSIC.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SuncoastParts<\/a>. The price was $1,190 (navigation without map data), plus shipping, customs, and exchange rate fees, totaling about 150,000 yen. For some reason, the box comes in a surprisingly pop-style package.<\/p>\n<p>I had it installed at Ashiya Drive Shop. Basically, it fits with a simple plug-and-play using the genuine Porsche connectors, but since my car had a Pioneer DEH-970 installed, they rewired it with the special connector included with the PCCM before installation.<\/p>\n<p>Installation requires connecting a USB\/AUX unit, GPS antenna, and microphone in addition to the main unit. Regarding the GPS antenna, since the navigation function built into the unit cannot be used in Japan (there is no Japanese map SD card), it\u2019s essentially pointless to install it here, but they installed it anyway for future-proofing.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_21903\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21903\" class=\"wp-image-21903 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/47F04FA7-F656-4CB1-8093-1823E1EA776F-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"PCCM USB Unit\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-21903\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">USB unit. If the size fits, it might work in non-Porsche cars too? Use at your own risk.<\/p><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Main_Features_of_the_PCCM_for_Classic_Porsches\"><\/span>Main Features of the PCCM for Classic Porsches<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Once powered on, the Porsche logo appears, and after a moment, the menu screen shows up. The plastic material, texture, and dial design <strong>fit perfectly with our 964-model 911.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-21892\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/071D9E78-CC18-44BC-8BBE-33C74DA286BE-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"PCCM\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>screen resolution is quite high and beautiful<\/strong>. Despite its small size, it\u2019s a touchscreen with <strong>good usability.<\/strong> Main functions include radio (AM\/FM), Bluetooth, SD card playback, navigation (not usable in Japan), phone, and Apple CarPlay.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-21908\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/955A3554-7BED-4C15-9E2A-E0D85FA750BF-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"PCCM Menu\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-21899\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/71319819-4017-4188-B634-4CC5AE511847-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Regarding radio, many channels can\u2019t be received because Japan\u2019s frequency bands differ. Also, AM uses 10kHz steps, so almost no AM stations can be received.<\/p>\n<p>However, FM covers much of Japan\u2019s \u201cWide FM\u201d band, allowing you to listen to AM stations on FM, so it\u2019s not much of an issue.<\/p>\n<p>For example, in Kansai, ABC Radio broadcasts on AM at 1008 kHz, which can\u2019t be received, but you can listen on the Wide FM frequency 93.3 MHz, so practically there\u2019s no problem. <strong>Plus, FM sound quality is much better.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bluetooth music playback and phone calls work perfectly.<\/strong> However, Japanese fonts are not included in this unit, so <strong>song titles and phonebook names appear garbled.<\/strong> But if you use Apple CarPlay, <strong>Japanese displays correctly without any issues,<\/strong> so it\u2019s not a problem.<\/p>\n<p>The default navigation system requires a separately sold map SD card, but since it can\u2019t be used in Japan, I didn\u2019t purchase it. Therefore, pressing the Navi or Map menu does nothing.<\/p>\n<p>But again, Apple CarPlay solves this issue.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Apple_CarPlay_for_Air-Cooled_Porsches\"><\/span>Apple CarPlay for Air-Cooled Porsches<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I won\u2019t go into detail about Apple CarPlay here, but <strong>any iPhone app that supports Apple CarPlay can be operated on the PCCM\u2019s screen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This includes Apple\u2019s own apps like Phone, Messages, Maps, Podcasts, Calendar, and Audiobooks, as well as third-party apps on my iPhone such as Amazon Music, Google Maps, Yahoo Car Navigation, Radikker, and more.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-21900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/E32FE850-FF39-4C04-92AD-2F5FCACC9400-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-21893\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/BA1B5391-68CB-4715-A107-B348FE5AE1AF-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Of course, Japanese displays perfectly in Apple CarPlay, and navigation apps provide accurate Japanese voice guidance, so <strong>it\u2019s exactly the same experience as Apple CarPlay on domestic navigation systems, no worries.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can say \u201cHey, Siri!\u201d and give various voice commands in Japanese without any problem.<\/p>\n<p>After installing the PCCM, a friend who also owns a 964 checked it out and <strong>his first comment was \u201cThe sound quality is really great!\u201d<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/aircooled-porsche911-stereo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">My 964 is equipped with Porsche\u2019s revived genuine speakers,<\/a> and with the PCCM installed, the sound quality truly improved dramatically.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not the luxury sound of BOSE, Harman Kardon, or Burmester, but the sound became very rich and the midrange is much clearer and more solid.<\/p>\n<p>The Pioneer DEH-970 I had before wasn\u2019t a bad unit either, but the sound quality and volume pressure are clearly better with the PCCM, anyone can tell.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Impressions_After_Driving\"><\/span>Impressions After Driving<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I usually wear glasses and currently have no presbyopia, with corrected vision around 1.0. Since the PCCM is 1DIN size, the screen is quite small. <strong>So naturally, fine text isn\u2019t instantly readable.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>However, you don\u2019t really need to look at it closely while driving, so it\u2019s not very inconvenient. <strong>Turn-by-turn arrows are clearly visible, and voice guidance means there\u2019s no real trouble.<\/strong> The hard-to-read parts are fine intersection names and song titles.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-21889\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/16D27A9D-1096-4735-90AE-FC282A4458A0-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>More than that, having the latest navigation and audio system makes me feel like <strong>my air-cooled Porsche has suddenly become a modern car.<\/strong> I especially use this 964 for city driving and long trips, so the interior comfort has improved dramatically.
