As we went, we chatted about the GT3\u2019s character, which we hadn\u2019t driven for a month and were beginning to forget: \u201c<strong>The GT3 sounds louder than I remember<\/strong>,\u201d \u201c<strong>Was the ride always this firm?<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cBut after driving an air-cooled Porsche, it feels incredibly supple.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-12768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_3602-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-12770\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_3605-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once we reached the Sanda Bullring, traffic ahead slowed us to a crawl for a while. And that\u2019s when a thought struck me:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">\u201cThe GT3 is actually happy cruising at a relaxed pace, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If we\u2019d been in the Boxster GTS, I\u2019d probably have been itching to pass and put my foot down. <strong>I\u2019d be desperate to enjoy that Boxster acceleration and the engine\u2019s exuberant roar,<\/strong> like a hunting dog waiting for the right moment, growling away the whole time: \u201c<strong>Rrrrrrrrr\u2026<\/strong>\u201d <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Not the clearest comparison, I know! lol)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the GT3, though, even crawling along, I found myself thinking, \u201c<strong>This is nice in its own way. Let\u2019s take it easy.<\/strong>\u201d When I mentioned it to my husband, he said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">\u201cExactly! It\u2019s funny how you feel that way. Maybe that\u2019s the difference between the Boxster and the 911. Or maybe it\u2019s because you can still hear the engine\u2019s mechanical sounds at low speeds, so it feels like you\u2019re really driving and that\u2019s satisfying in itself.<br \/>\nI once saw the slogan \u2018<strong>Race on Sunday, drive on Monday<\/strong>.\u2019 That\u2019s exactly what the 911 is about: you can take it on track, or simply enjoy driving it in everyday life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It felt strange that a car with a staggering 500 horsepower could still be enjoyable and engaging at an easy pace. Of course, <strong>the manual transmission probably has a lot to do with it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Time to Drive the GT3!<\/h3>\n<p>I was enjoying the ride in the passenger seat when my husband said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">\u201cSince we\u2019ve come all the way to Sanda in the GT3, let\u2019s switch drivers on the way back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well, of course. I should have seen that coming (-_-).<\/p>\n<p>But <strong>I\u2019d stalled repeatedly on the day the GT3 was delivered and could barely get it moving<\/strong>, and the experience had left me a little traumatized. I was genuinely nervous: \u201c<strong>If the same thing happens again, I\u2019ll never get over it.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Still, I wasn\u2019t going to get anywhere by worrying. I told myself, \u201c<strong>I\u2019ve been practicing driving a manual BMW 320i almost every day lately, so I\u2019ll be fine<\/strong>,\u201d took a deep breath, and swapped seats.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-12765\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_3721-600x800.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I climbed into the driver\u2019s seat, heart pounding, and pressed the clutch, wondering if I could manage it. \u201c<strong>Wait, was the clutch always this light?<\/strong>\u201d I was surprised. I must have been so tense the last time that even the clutch felt heavy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-12769\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_3613-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then I eased away\u2014and, to my surprise, got moving without much trouble. \u201c<strong>Oh! I did it!<\/strong>\u201d I blurted out.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026Though getting the car moving is hardly something to celebrate (-_-).<\/p>\n<p>The 991.2 GT3 Touring automatically matches the revs when you shift up, so you can keep your foot on the accelerator as you drive <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(the feature can be switched off)<\/span>. But out of habit, I kept lifting off the throttle, so I wasn\u2019t making the most of this excellent feature. My driving was anything but smooth.<\/p>\n<p>My husband also had this to say:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">\u201cYou\u2019re shifting too stiffly. You don\u2019t need to force it\u2014the GT3\u2019s shifter slots in smoothly, with a nice little click.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When I first started driving a manual, I made one mis-shift after another\u2014for example, aiming for fourth and landing in second. To avoid that, I\u2019d trained myself to pause and pass through neutral when shifting, like \u201c2 \u2192 N \u2192 3\u201d or \u201c3 \u2192 N \u2192 2.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That habit is now so ingrained that every shift takes me an extra beat.<\/p>\n<p>I also kept asking questions like, \u201c<strong>I\u2019m in fourth now\u2014should I go up to fifth? I\u2019m in third\u2014should I shift down to second for this turn?<\/strong>\u201d Eventually, my husband got fed up:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">\u201cCome on, just drive it your way already (-_-).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even so, I somehow managed to drive the GT3.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">The GT3\u2014and the Boxster, Too<\/h3>\n<p>I was nowhere near mastering the GT3 this time, but <strong>I did manage to drive it, so let\u2019s call that the first step conquered<\/strong> lol. I also found the GT3 <strong>much easier to drive than our 981 Boxster GTS<\/strong>. The Boxster\u2019s clutch is heavy, and it\u2019s hard to tell exactly where it bites. The 991.2 GT3 is much more straightforward in that respect.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-12766\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_3720-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Come to think of it, I once wrote a series called \u201cUntil the Day I Can Drive the Boxster.\u201d It ended almost as soon as it started, around Vol. 5 lol, so I should probably bring that series back, too.<\/p>\n<p>First, I\u2019ll master the BMW, then the GT3, and after that, I\u2019ll keep working until I can confidently drive the Boxster GTS.
