Along the way, it felt like we were reacquainting ourselves with the GT3\u2019s feel after a month\u2019s break, chatting about how &#8220;<strong>the GT3 sounds louder now<\/strong>,&#8221; &#8220;<strong>is the ride always this stiff?<\/strong>,&#8221; and &#8220;<strong>but compared to driving an air-cooled Porsche, it\u2019s incredibly smooth<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-12768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_3602-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-12770\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_3605-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Later, as we entered Sanda Burgring, we hit a patch of slow, stop-and-go traffic caused by a line of cars ahead. At that moment, I had a sudden thought:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">\u201cThe GT3 is actually suited for relaxed driving, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If I\u2019d been in the Boxster GTS in the same situation, I\u2019d probably be itching to overtake quickly, eager to feel that explosive acceleration and engine roar again. Like a hunting dog waiting for the moment to chase, I\u2019d be growling &#8220;<strong>grrrrrrrrrr\u2026<\/strong>&#8221; the whole time. <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Maybe not the clearest analogy, haha)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>But with the GT3, even crawling along felt like &#8220;<strong>this is fine, let\u2019s take it easy<\/strong>.&#8221; When I shared this with my husband, he said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">\u201cYeah, that\u2019s right. It\u2019s strange how it feels that way. Maybe that\u2019s the difference between the Boxster and the 911. Or perhaps it\u2019s because the GT3\u2019s mechanical engine noise is so audible even at low speeds, making you feel like you\u2019re really driving. I once saw the phrase \u2018Race on Sunday, drive on Monday\u2019\u2014the 911 is exactly that kind of car: great on the track, but just as fun in everyday life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a strange feeling that a car with a staggering 500 horsepower can still be enjoyable at a relaxed pace. Well, <strong>being a manual transmission probably plays a big part in that<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Taking the Wheel of the GT3!<\/h3>\n<p>While happily riding shotgun, my husband said,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">\u201cSince we came all the way to Sanda in the GT3, let\u2019s switch drivers on the way back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well, yeah, that makes sense (-_-)<\/p>\n<p>But I was pretty nervous because on the GT3\u2019s delivery day, I stalled repeatedly and barely managed to get moving, which left me with a bit of trauma. I thought, &#8220;<strong>if I mess up like that again, I might never recover.<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Still, I knew complaining wouldn\u2019t help, so I told myself, &#8220;<strong>I\u2019ve been practicing manual driving almost daily in my BMW 320i, so I\u2019ll be fine<\/strong>,&#8221; and bravely agreed to switch.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-12765\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_3721-600x800.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sitting nervously in the seat and pressing the clutch, I was surprised: &#8220;<strong>Wait, was the clutch always this light?<\/strong>&#8221; I must have been so tense last time that even the clutch felt heavy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-12769\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_3613-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then, cautiously trying to pull away&#8230; I actually managed it pretty smoothly and couldn\u2019t help but exclaim, &#8220;<strong>Oh wow\u2026 I did it!!<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u2026Though I probably shouldn\u2019t be celebrating just for getting moving (-_-)<\/p>\n<p>The 991.2 GT3 Touring automatically rev-matches on upshifts, so you can keep the throttle open while shifting <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(this feature can be turned off)<\/span>, but out of habit I kept letting off the gas, which meant I didn\u2019t fully take advantage of this brilliant feature and ended up driving less smoothly than I could have.<\/p>\n<p>On top of that, my husband said,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">\u201cYour shifts are stiff. You don\u2019t need to use so much force\u2014the GT3\u2019s shifter goes in smoothly with a nice, crisp click.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When I first started driving manuals, I often made the mistake of trying to shift into 4th but ending up in 2nd instead. To avoid that, I\u2019ve been consciously shifting through neutral like \u201c2 \u2192 N \u2192 3\u201d or \u201c3 \u2192 N \u2192 2,\u201d easing off briefly between gears.<\/p>\n<p>That habit makes my shifts a bit delayed now.<\/p>\n<p>Also, I kept asking things like &#8220;<strong>I\u2019m in 4th now, should I go to 5th? I\u2019m in 3rd, should I drop to 2nd for this turn?<\/strong>,&#8221; which annoyed my husband:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">\u201cJust go ahead and drive however you want already (-_-)\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But despite that, I managed to drive the GT3.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Both the GT3 and the Boxster<\/h3>\n<p>This time, I didn\u2019t quite master the GT3, but since I was able to drive it at all, I guess that\u2019s stage one cleared, haha. Also, I found the GT3 <strong>much easier to drive than the 981 Boxster GTS<\/strong>. The Boxster\u2019s clutch is heavy and it\u2019s hard to tell where the bite point is, but the 991.2 GT3 is much more manageable.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-12766\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_3720-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2026Speaking of which, I remember I once wrote a series called &#8220;<strong>Until the Day I Could Drive the Boxster<\/strong>.&#8221; It ended pretty quickly around volume 5 (lol), so I should probably bring that back.<\/p>\n<p>First, I\u2019ll master the BMW, then the GT3, and finally the Boxster GTS. Step by step, I\u2019ll keep at it.
