One week isn\u2019t nearly enough to cover it all<\/strong>, and I still want to drive more. There are so many beautiful roads left in Tohoku. I want to go again soon!<\/p>\n At that moment, I couldn\u2019t help but say, <\/p>\n Wait, you drove 3,000 kilometers and you still want to drive more!? You\u2019re crazy (\uff9f\u0434\uff9f)!<\/p>\n But what that really means is that “Japan has many beautiful places that aren\u2019t well known to the public<\/strong>,” which I find quite true.<\/p>\n Also, even without going far, there are quite a few beautiful unnamed roads<\/strong> in the countryside that don\u2019t have official names like \u201c\u25cb\u25cb Line.\u201d<\/p>\n Whenever I read the blog of wata-san<\/a>, my husband\u2019s mentor, I always feel “Japan is so beautiful<\/strong>.” He has mentioned several times that “Bypass construction is progressing around here, so this road will soon disappear<\/strong>,” which makes me realize that we need to drive these beautiful roads while they still exist.<\/p>\n Whenever my husband goes touring, he always brings a motorcycle rider\u2019s touring map<\/strong>. Although there are many driving guides for cars in magazines and online, most of them don\u2019t understand car enthusiasts or driving lovers at all, focusing mainly on sightseeing and gourmet info, with very little useful information about the roads or routes themselves<\/strong>. He often complains, \u201cIf it\u2019s just sightseeing info, don\u2019t call it driving info!!\u201d So he relies on motorcycle touring maps as a reference.<\/p>\n However, since those maps are for motorcycles, sometimes they lead to extremely narrow roads where he thinks, “This is impossible for a car<\/strong>,” and he has to turn back.<\/p>\n Besides the touring maps, he sometimes follows routes introduced on wata-san\u2019s blog, but he often grumbles, “It\u2019d be amazing if there was a touring map just for car lovers<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n After talking with others, it turns out this feeling isn\u2019t unique to him; many people who go on car tours, especially long ones, feel the same way to some extent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n I see\u2026<\/p>\n One day, on a whim, I tweeted, “It\u2019d be great if there was an online collection of touring maps for car lovers. If I could, I\u2019d like to create one.<\/strong>” <\/p>\n \u201cPlease do that project!\u201d \u201cLeave the \u25cb\u25cb area to me!\u201d<\/p>\n I received quite a few messages like these, so I decided to start the “Meidou Map<\/strong>” project here on the blog.<\/p>\n First, I plan to introduce Google Maps of touring routes my husband has driven in the past, organized by region on the “Meidou Map” page<\/strong>. Along with the maps, I\u2019ll include simple info like the season when the route was driven and what car was used.<\/p>\n These Google Maps of touring routes have been introduced before in \u201cMy Husband\u2019s \u25cb\u25cb Touring Articles,\u201d but if you open these maps on your Android or iPhone, they\u2019ll be saved in your Google Maps \u201cMy Maps\u201d section<\/strong>, which is very convenient.<\/p>\n We\u2019ll start with what we can do, but at the same time, we\u2019d love to receive information about famous roads nationwide from readers<\/strong>. Even though my husband loves touring, it\u2019s impossible for him to drive every road in Japan (though maybe not entirely impossible\u2026)<\/span>, so it would be wonderful to share and spread information together.<\/p>\n Since this blog is called \u201cWelcome Home, PORSCHE,\u201d some might wonder, “Do you have to be a Porsche owner to contribute to the Meidou Map?<\/strong>” But the star of the \u201cMeidou Map\u201d project is the \u201croad\u201d itself.<\/p>\n So, no matter what car brand you own, if you think “I want to share this wonderful road with other car lovers and driving enthusiasts<\/strong>,” please feel free to send us information. That would make me very happy.<\/p>\n How exactly we\u2019ll receive route info is a bit tricky, but maybe by having contributors add data to Google Maps in advance\u2026 we\u2019ll figure out the best way as we go.<\/p>\n Also, it would be great to hear from people who say “I actually drove one of the routes you posted!<\/strong>” We want to add those real voices to each map page and update them regularly to share more authentic information.<\/p>\n This month, I wrapped up a decade-long job for the time being. I\u2019m not quitting, but I\u2019ve organized things and reached a pause, so now I have a better environment to focus more on this blog than ever before<\/strong>.<\/p>\n I don\u2019t know how the \u201cMeidou Map\u201d project will turn out, but I want to give it a try.
