How Does It Compare to the Cayenne?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the end of last year, thanks to the kindness of a blog reader, I had the opportunity to test drive the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/panamera-4e-hybrid-testdrive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Panamera 4 E-Hybrid.<\/a> I recently shared my own impressions, but my husband also wrote a review, so please take a look if you\u2019re interested.  <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid<\/h3>\n<p>In late December, as cold rain gently fell, a striking sapphire blue Panamera appeared.  <\/p>\n<p>I had seen sapphire blue Panameras twice before, but seeing it again, it looks incredibly cool. <strong>When I bought my Panamera Turbo, I seriously considered this color, and now I slightly regret not choosing it\u2014it\u2019s that good-looking.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21519\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG_0764.jpg\" alt=\"Porsche Panamera\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/>  <\/p>\n<p>Though it\u2019s a sports sedan, it radiates a supercar-like aura and might even stand out more than some supercars. The owner told me that many people in town can\u2019t help but stare, sometimes making them wonder, <strong>\u201cIs there something on the car?\u201d<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p>I immediately sat in the driver\u2019s seat to get a feel for it. <strong>This car is the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, which shares almost the same system as our Cayenne E-Hybrid, so I\u2019ll focus on the differences between the two.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Driving the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid<\/h3>\n<p>I turned the ignition switch and confirmed the <strong>\u201cREADY\u201d<\/strong> display before pressing the accelerator. <strong>This part feels just like the Cayenne E-Hybrid.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21521\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG_0436.jpg\" alt=\"Porsche Panamera interior\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" \/><\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p>When I evaluate a car, I pay close attention to the <strong>ultra-low-speed feel from the very first roll of the tires.<\/strong> A car with a good suspension setup lets you feel solid contact with the road even at very low speeds, with minimal drivetrain roughness, revealing the high precision of its engineering.  <\/p>\n<p>It allows you to <strong>experience the sensation of smooth, perfectly round tires beginning to roll.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p>The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is a prime example of this. <strong>Especially thanks to the thick torque from the electric motor right from the start, it accelerates very smoothly.<\/strong> I\u2019ve experienced the Panamera Turbo, Panamera 4S, and Panamera GTS before, but <strong>this hybrid model stands out as the smoothest of them all.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21522\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG_0439.jpg\" alt=\"Porsche Panamera wheels\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" \/>  <\/p>\n<p>Our Cayenne E-Hybrid also starts smoothly, but the Panamera feels lighter and more nimble when it pulls forward. I believe this is partly due to the difference in vehicle weight and also the <strong>difference between the PDK and Tiptronic transmissions.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p>First, I continued driving in <strong>\u201cE-POWER\u201d<\/strong> mode. It climbed the Royu Driveway uphill effortlessly, even with three adults on board. There was no feeling of the motor lacking power. Of course, you can\u2019t experience explosive acceleration on electric power alone, but it has more than enough power for everyday driving.  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21523\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG_0427.jpg\" alt=\"Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" \/>  <\/p>\n<p>Taking a curve, the <strong>body moves with astonishing lightness.<\/strong> It\u2019s hard to believe this vehicle is nearly 300 kg heavier due to the battery and motor. This feeling is truly remarkable.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Trust me when I say this comes from an owner who has owned and driven the 970 Panamera and 971 Panamera Turbo extensively.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p>Trying hard to find any downside to the added weight, I sharpened my senses at every curve, paying close attention to steering feel and body roll\u2014but I couldn\u2019t detect any difference. <strong>In fact, the handling on winding roads feels even more agile than the Panamera GTS or Turbo.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/porsche-panamera-testdrive-2021-hiro\/2\/\">Next page \u2192 Experience the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid in Sport Mode!<\/a><\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><!--nextpage-->  <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Experiencing the Panamera in Sport Mode<\/h3>\n<p>The engine in the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid isn\u2019t the V8 found in the GTS or Turbo, but the <strong>2.9L V6 shared with the 4S.<\/strong> Perhaps because of this, the front end feels light and turns in sharply.  <\/p>\n<p>Also, with the heavy battery located under the trunk, it might have a somewhat rear-weighted (RR-like) feel.  <\/p>\n<p>Porsche surely applies the secret know-how they developed with the 911 to control rear-heavy cars. I believe they have thoroughly refined the tuning of this hybrid model using that expertise.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s honestly a level of refinement that commands respect.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21524\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG_0429.jpg\" alt=\"Porsche Panamera\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" \/>  <\/p>\n<p>At some point, I switched to <strong>\u201cSPORT\u201d mode.<\/strong> The V6 engine instantly wakes up, synchronizing with the motor\u2019s rotation, matching RPMs in an instant, smoothing out torque fluctuations, and delivering power seamlessly.  <\/p>\n<p>Here, <strong>the Cayenne\u2019s Tiptronic is impressive, but the Panamera\u2019s PDK offers equally excellent control.<\/strong> The engineer who programmed this PDK control must be extremely talented. It\u2019s almost indistinguishable from Tiptronic.  <\/p>\n<p>At least during normal driving, you can\u2019t tell when the motor and engine switch. If you deliberately drive jerkily, you might notice it a bit more than with Tiptronic, but the smoothness is outstanding.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>The V6 engine assisted by the motor feels very powerful.<\/strong> Even when manually shifting with paddle shifters, the PDK\u2019s quick shifts remain impressive. The Cayenne\u2019s Tiptronic is also quite fast, but the PDK really stands out here.  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21525\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG_0766.jpg\" alt=\"Porsche Panamera\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/>  <\/p>\n<p>As the engine revs climb, the motor\u2019s boost kicks in, significantly increasing torque. <strong>It doesn\u2019t quite match the brutal acceleration of the Panamera Turbo, but it feels on par with the 4S and GTS.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p>The engine sound is also wonderful. This particular car doesn\u2019t have the sports exhaust, but <strong>the sound of the 2.9L V6 with the standard exhaust is very pleasing.<\/strong> The higher the revs, the louder and more engaging the sound becomes, making the normal exhaust quite enjoyable.  <\/p>\n<p>By the way, although the Cayenne E-Hybrid\u2019s 3.0L V6 is similar in displacement, it\u2019s a completely different engine. <strong>Comparing the 2.9L V6 to the 3.0L V6, the 2.9L feels sportier in sound and character.<\/strong> The 3.0L is a very good engine too, but it seems more focused on torque and practical usability.  <\/p>\n<p>Approaching a corner, I applied the brakes to slow down. <strong>The strong braking performance worthy of the Porsche name remains intact here.<\/strong> In hybrid models, most braking is regenerative, with physical brakes stopping the car at the end, but I feel the braking feel differs slightly between the Cayenne and Panamera.  <\/p>\n<p>Specifically, <strong>the Cayenne\u2019s regenerative braking is stronger.<\/strong> It\u2019s probably tuned to recover more electricity. As a result, the Cayenne\u2019s brakes are quite strong, though not quite at the PCCB level. In contrast, <strong>the Panamera\u2019s regenerative braking isn\u2019t as intense.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p>You can think of it as having braking feel more like a regular Porsche.  <\/p>\n<p>According to the owner, <strong>\u201cThe Panamera\u2019s tuning focuses more on improving fuel efficiency by maintaining speed rather than heavy regeneration.\u201d<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p>Still, it\u2019s truly a <strong>sporty sedan.<\/strong> The Panamera naturally feels like a much smaller car on winding roads, and this hybrid model does so even more.  <\/p>\n<p>It delivers a lightness reminiscent of the 992-generation 911, with torque and handling characteristics that make it easy to drive anywhere, even in town.  <\/p>\n<p>This is likely thanks to the instant maximum torque from the motor, offering a driving experience and feel that the engine alone can\u2019t achieve.  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21527\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG_0769.jpg\" alt=\"Porsche Panamera\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/>  <\/p>\n<p>I really liked this test drive. My wife also praised the car highly, and <strong>if we had driven this before buying the Cayenne, I honestly think we would have been torn.<\/strong> If we didn\u2019t need to think about seating five, we might have chosen the Panamera. It\u2019s that well-made a car.  <\/p>\n<p>If anyone is considering buying a Panamera, <strong>I highly recommend the E-Hybrid model.<\/strong> It\u2019s affordable, fast, and fun\u2014the perfect combination.
