A Porsche Owner\u2019s Perspective"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"style3a\">About the Porsche 911 (992)<\/h3>\n<p>When test drives for the current 911 (992) first began, I occasionally came across less-than-favorable reviews saying things like, &#8220;<strong>The 992 is so easy to drive it\u2019s become just a passenger car<\/strong>&#8221; or &#8220;<strong>The 992 isn\u2019t fun anymore<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But is that really the case?<\/p>\n<p>The first time my spouse and I test drove a 992, it was a 911 Carrera 4S. It was indeed very easy to drive, with a comfortable ride and excellent drivability. It\u2019s almost too well-behaved, which might be why some say it\u2019s &#8220;<strong>too much like a passenger car and not exciting<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s now been four months since the bare-bones 992 Cabriolet arrived at our home in September 2020. I want to share my thoughts on whether the 992 has truly been reduced to just a passenger car\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21394\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG_1679.jpg\" alt=\"Porsche 911 (992)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">My Husband\u2019s Perspective as a Porsche Enthusiast<\/h3>\n<p>As I\u2019ve written many times on this blog, the 992\u2019s performance is incredibly high. To get straight to the point, <strong>I firmly believe the 992 is undeniably a super high-performance sports car.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sure, if you only drive it in heavy city traffic during a test drive, its ease of use stands out. But once you hit mountain roads or the highway, you\u2019ll be amazed by its incredible capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>My husband often says,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">It\u2019s like the nutrition joke from the comedy duo Milk Boy\u2019s \u201cCornflakes\u201d bit \u2014 <strong>the 992 has a great pentagonal balance, and the size of that pentagon is quite large<\/strong>.<br \/>\nOn the other hand, something like the GT3 has one category that really stands out, making its characteristics easy to understand.<br \/>\nBecause the 992 is well-balanced across all categories, it might be a car that\u2019s &#8220;<strong>so well-rounded that its features are hard to pinpoint<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I have to agree\u2026<\/p>\n<p>If I were to compare it to a five-point grading scale from school days, the 981 might have \u201cmusic\u201d and \u201cart\u201d at a 5 but \u201cmath\u201d at a 3, or the 991 GT3 might have \u201cPE\u201d and \u201cphysics\u201d at a 5 but \u201clanguage\u201d at a 2. Meanwhile, the 992 seems to get 4s or 5s across the board in \u201clanguage,\u201d \u201cworld history\/Japanese history,\u201d \u201cPE,\u201d and so on.<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">(I know, it\u2019s a weird analogy, lol)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Also, having driven the 992 on winding roads and circuits, my husband says,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\"><strong>The 992 is a super high-performance sports car and a versatile all-rounder.<\/strong><br \/>\nEveryday driving and circuit racing are basically opposite scenarios, but it excels in both.<br \/>\nOf all the Porsches I\u2019ve driven, it\u2019s the most forgiving car, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/992-964-911gt3-boxster-which\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>if I had to keep just one, it would be the 992<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He also says,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">It\u2019s easy to drive in the city with plenty of low-end torque, and you can hear the engine even at low revs, so it\u2019s fun in town.<br \/>\nTake it on a winding road, and you\u2019ll be amazed at &#8220;<strong>how precise the handling is<\/strong>.&#8221;<br \/>\nExperiencing the fantastic PDK control makes you wonder, &#8220;<strong>do I even need a manual transmission?<\/strong>&#8221; because it\u2019s that enjoyable.<br \/>\nOn the circuit, its potential is shockingly high and easy to handle.<br \/>\nWith &#8220;<strong>stability, drivability, and a deep reserve of capability<\/strong>,&#8221; you can fully concentrate on driving.<br \/>\nEven in amateur battles, it can keep up with a GT3 in corners, and I\u2019ve surprised myself with lap times.<br \/>\nAnd this is <strong>despite our 911 being a Cabriolet<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, I think it\u2019s rare to find a car that performs so well and is so enjoyable in every situation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-21396\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/15A8C197-4C40-4D6A-8BF5-3748CEC53813-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He continues,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Some people say &#8220;<strong>the 992 isn\u2019t fun<\/strong>,&#8221; but I really don\u2019t understand why.<br \/>\nOf course, it\u2019s a matter of personal preference, and some might judge it just from a short city test drive.<br \/>\nBut once you own it and drive it in various situations including the circuit, you realize it\u2019s an incredibly well-made, amazing car.<br \/>\nAt this level, it\u2019s not even a matter of comparing it to old 911s anymore.<br \/>\nI remember Masataka Matsutoya from Car Graphic TV praising the 992 Carrera, saying something like, &#8220;<strong>I had prepared negative comments before even test driving it based on prior info, but when I actually drove it, it was such a great car that I was at a loss.<\/strong>&#8221; (laughs)<br \/>\nIf the base model is this amazing, I can only imagine what the GT3 is like.<\/p>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/panamera-life.com\/entry\/porsche-911-992-awesome-2021\/2\/\">Next page \u2192 Why I Can Say the 992 Is a Porsche\u2019s Seriously Crafted Sports Car<\/a><\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Old vs. New Porsche 911<\/h3>\n<p>That\u2019s true. I once drove the 992 on the highway, and when I pressed the accelerator just a little to accelerate, I was shocked by the sheer power. It was almost scary, and I couldn\u2019t help but say, &#8220;<strong>Wow! It\u2019s this amazing even in the base model! Do we even need the Turbo or GT3?<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The handling on mountain roads is incredibly precise, not quite GT3 level but close.<\/p>\n<p>My husband also says,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">I think the development of the 911 always <strong>keeps air-cooled Porsche owners in mind<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThe goal isn\u2019t to beat rival cars but to surpass the old 911s.<br \/>\nSome air-cooled Porsche fans say &#8220;<strong>modern Porsches since water cooling aren\u2019t really Porsches<\/strong>,&#8221; so I think there\u2019s a strong desire to build a 911 that those people can accept.<br \/>\nI feel that especially strongly with the 992. It almost feels like an obsession.<br \/>\nGiven today\u2019s strict environmental and safety regulations, I think they tried to resurrect the air-cooled Porsche spirit in a modern car.<br \/>\nYou can really feel the air-cooled vibe in its looks, driving, and sound.<br \/>\nHaving owned various models like the 964, GT3, Panamera, Boxster, and Cayenne, and experienced many old and new 911s, I can say <strong>the 992 is a seriously crafted, super high-performance sports car and a genuine 911.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Makes sense.<\/p>\n<p>I suspect people who say &#8220;<strong>the 992 isn\u2019t fun<\/strong>&#8221; might be those who enjoy cars with quirks, untamed character, or imperfections, and find joy in mastering them.<\/p>\n<p>For those people, the 992 might feel too well-behaved and not exciting enough.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I\u2019m not a fan of people who give off a dangerous vibe, so I\u2019m not into those kinds of cars either.<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">(What am I even talking about? lol)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In that sense, the 992 is <strong>the most predictable and enjoyable Porsche I\u2019ve ever driven<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It never surprises me with scary moves, its power feels just right, and its high performance lets me fully trust the car and drive with confidence.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, this is partly personal preference, so opinions will vary, but at least in our household, the conclusion is that &#8220;<strong>the 992 is a super high-performance sports car that delivers great satisfaction<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"About the Porsche 911 (992) When test drives for the current 911 (992) first began, I occasionally came across less-than-favorable reviews saying things like, &#8220;The 992 is so easy to drive it\u2019s become just a passenger car&#8221; or &#8220;The 992 isn\u2019t fun anymore.&#8221; But is that really the case?
