My husband tried washing it once, but then he said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">The Cayenne is so big that I can\u2019t reach the middle of the roof. Washing it properly by hand is a real struggle. We might be better off paying for a hand wash.<\/p>\n<p>That was fair enough.<\/p>\n<p>But the end of the year got hectic, and we couldn\u2019t find time to take it in for a wash. So the Cayenne kept getting driven around covered in grime.<\/p>\n<p>Somehow, though, it still looked the part when it was dirty\u2026 It had the air of a vehicle that had just driven through snow and sleet, and I found myself thinking, \u201c<strong>Maybe it actually looks good like this\u2014it gives the impression that we really get out and drive it.<\/strong>\u201d <span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">(That\u2019s just an excuse, of course.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Then, at the end of the year, my husband took the Cayenne out and got it washed while he was at it. When I asked, I found out he\u2019d taken it through an automatic car wash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Wait, it fits in an automatic car wash?! Didn\u2019t it get scratched?<\/strong>\u201d I asked. He said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Before I went, I looked up the width and height limits for automatic car washes. Apparently, a lot of them are 2.3 meters wide. I couldn\u2019t tell whether that measurement was from mirror to mirror or based on the body width, but the Cayenne is 1,985 mm wide, so I figured it might just fit and decided to give it a try.<br \/>\nEven though there should have been about 30 cm of clearance, the tires didn\u2019t come close to staying inside the yellow lines painted on the ground. I wondered if those lines were even 2.3 meters apart.<br \/>\nI lined up with the yellow line on the driver\u2019s side and stopped, with the tires on the passenger side well over the line. Once I picked a wash cycle and watched the gantry approach, it was seriously nerve-racking. The opening looked so small that it felt like the Cayenne was squeezing through with barely any room to spare.<br \/>\nI kept hoping that <strong>if it really was about to hit something, the safety system would stop it<\/strong> (laughs).<br \/>\nFrom the driver\u2019s seat, even with the mirrors folded in, the gantry looked so close that I was worried it might scrape the passenger-side mirror.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s how he described it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21233\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG_0254.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"674\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21235\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG_0261.jpg\" alt=\"Washing a Porsche Cayenne\" width=\"1200\" height=\"674\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My husband took a few photos, and seeing it like this, I have to admit it looks pretty intimidating\u2026!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21234\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG_0253.jpg\" alt=\"Washing a Porsche Cayenne\" width=\"1200\" height=\"674\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The wheels, though, apparently didn\u2019t come out clean after going through the wash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\"><strong>I guess I\u2019ll have to wash the wheels myself<\/strong>. I chose a cycle that was supposed to focus on the wheels, but they didn\u2019t get clean at all. If anything, the brush marks were patchy and made them look even dirtier.<br \/>\nI think it makes more sense to use a regular wash cycle and clean the wheels myself.<br \/>\nActually, <strong>a touchless car wash that uses high-pressure water might do a better job<\/strong>. Maybe we\u2019ll try that next time.<\/p>\n<p>That was his verdict.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21236\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/IMG_0628.jpg\" alt=\"Porsche Cayenne\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">How the Cayenne Fared After a Snowy Adventure<\/h3>\n<p>A little later, after a full day of playing in the snow with the Cayenne, we got home and took a look at the car. It was astonishingly dirty\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21722\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/IMG_0847.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21726\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/IMG_0930.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Since the Cayenne is an SUV, a bit of dirt can make it look like it\u2019s been off-roading, which suits it. But this was too much, so we headed straight to an automatic car wash.<\/p>\n<p>My husband had said before that \u201c<strong>the width was a really tight fit<\/strong>,\u201d and I wanted to experience it for myself. Do you pay for a hand wash every time?
