A Sunday Morning Trip to Royu<\/h3>\n

One Sunday morning, since my mother-in-law was able to watch the kids, my husband and I took the GT3 and headed to the Royu Driveway. This time, after tweeting in advance that we\u2019d be going to Royu, several people replied, \u201cI\u2019m going too!\u201d<\/strong> so I was really looking forward to meeting everyone.<\/p>\n

We arrived at the East Rokko Observatory on Royu Driveway around 8:30 a.m. But the parking lot was already full<\/strong>, and we barely managed to park our car at the edge.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Still, the sheer number of cars from early morning was amazing. Of course, no one was calling people to gather; it was a spontaneous meetup.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat exactly is it about Royu that attracts so many car enthusiasts\u2026?\u201d Today, I want to share my thoughts on the charm of Royu on a Sunday morning<\/strong>. (I\u2019ve touched on this before, but here\u2019s a deeper look.)<\/span><\/p>\n

The Charm of Royu Driveway on Sunday Mornings<\/h3>\n

\u2460 Gathering of Legendary Cars<\/h4>\n

Royu Driveway (East Rokko Observatory)<\/span> is known as the \u201cMecca for car lovers in Kansai\u201d<\/strong>, and true to its reputation, many rare cars that you hardly ever see in daily life gather here.<\/p>\n

Among them, Porsches make up a relatively large portion. You can see everything from classic air-cooled Porsches to the latest models up close.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

In the past, there were times when many Porsches that I\u2019d only seen in museums, like the 356 and \u201973 Carrera, were parked here.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

And it\u2019s not just Porsches\u2014Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and other supercars are always present. Recently, there was a \u201cMcLaren Festival<\/strong>\u201d with 3 to 4 McLarens parked together.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Besides those, you\u2019ll also find Rolls-Royce, Alpina, and many other cars you rarely see in the city.<\/p>\n

Since I only started getting interested in Porsche a few years ago, I understand a bit about Porsche models, but I\u2019m mostly clueless about other cars\u2026<\/strong> so I don\u2019t always know which cars are rare or how impressive they are. But my husband and others around me always exclaim \u201cWow, amazing!\u201d whenever they see a car.<\/p>\n

Of course, many Japanese sports cars also show up. Recently, I saw a Subaru WRX STI, a Mazda Roadster, and even a Honda NSX parked there.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

In short, the East Rokko Observatory on Royu Driveway is a place where all kinds of sports cars and legendary vehicles gather. Many people come just to enjoy seeing these cars.<\/p>\n

\u2461 A Place for Cross-Generational Car Enthusiast Encounters and\u4ea4\u6d41<\/h4>\n

Everyone I meet and talk to at Royu is gentlemanly and wonderful. It almost makes me wonder, \u201cAre all car lovers just good people?\u201d<\/strong> They\u2019re friendly, warm, and fun to talk to.<\/p>\n

When I first went to Royu Driveway, I was nervous standing next to my husband, but the people around me started conversations and showed kindness, making my Royu debut a fun experience. In fact, there are even couples who come together.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some strike up conversations with owners of cars they used to own, others talk to owners of cars they admire and take photos\u2014there are many ways people connect.<\/p>\n

At Royu Driveway, you\u2019ll find young enthusiasts like KUGATTI<\/a>, whom I interviewed before, as well as veterans who have been coming for decades, and first-timers. It\u2019s always a gathering of car lovers across generations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sometimes, I hear stories like, \u201cWe\u2019ve been chatting for a long time but don\u2019t even know what each other does for work,\u201d<\/strong> which is quite funny.<\/p>\n

In other words, through the shared love of cars, people connect and become friends. That\u2019s one of the charms of Royu Driveway. But of course, nothing happens if you just wait\u2014you have to take the initiative to start conversations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m planning to be braver and talk to more people from now on.<\/p>\n

Next page \u2192 If you get close, you might even get a ride along!?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u2462 A Laid-Back Gathering<\/h4>\n

The other day, my mother-in-law asked, \u201cAre you going to a meetup at Royu today?\u201d<\/strong> and I replied,<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, it\u2019s not an official meeting or anything, we\u2019re just going.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said, \u201cOh, that\u2019s interesting!\u201d with a laugh.<\/p>\n

Of course, some people do arrange to meet up, but usually it\u2019s more like \u201cwe just gather casually, chat, take a little drive on Royu, and then head home when it\u2019s time.\u201d<\/strong> The last time we were there, we arrived at 8:30 a.m., and after 10 a.m., people gradually started leaving, so we headed home around 11 a.m.<\/p>\n

Also, many decide based on the weather\u2014\u201cI was planning to go, but it rained so I didn\u2019t,\u201d or \u201cIt\u2019s sunny today, so I\u2019ll go after a while.\u201d<\/p>\n

I really like this relaxed vibe. It\u2019s not like \u201cI signed up, so I have to participate!\u201d<\/strong> Anyone can come anytime, and unless the weather is bad, there\u2019s always someone there.<\/p>\n

I think this easygoing atmosphere is another big part of Royu\u2019s appeal.<\/p>\n

\u2463 If You Get Friendly, You Might Get a Ride in the Passenger Seat<\/h4>\n

After going to Royu several times and chatting with people, some kind souls have invited me, \u201cWould you like to ride shotgun?\u201d<\/strong> So far, I\u2019ve been lucky enough to ride in cars like a Ferrari California, Ferrari 488 Spider, McLaren 600LT, McLaren 720S, Abarth 595, 718 Boxster GTS, and 911 GT3.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Of course, since these are precious cars, proper manners are essential, and I only accept when the owner kindly offers, \u201cWould you like to?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

On this day, after I wrote on the blog that I wanted to try riding a Roadster at Royu, a kind Roadster owner who reads the blog said, \u201cYou\u2019re welcome to ride it,\u201d so my husband and I both got to test drive it.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll write a separate article about my impressions of the Roadster test drive.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Other: Beware of Sunburn<\/h4>\n

This isn\u2019t exactly a charm of Royu Driveway, but\u2026 you get seriously sunburned at Royu Driveway in summer.<\/strong> I\u2019d only been there in spring or autumn before, but recently, just spending 2\u20133 hours at the observatory gave me quite a burn (I should have put on sunscreen on my arms, which I didn\u2019t).<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Though it\u2019s not visible in the photos, my d\u00e9colletage was bright red too, and of course, my face took a hit as well. Since I have freckles, I\u2019ve been trying hard to improve my skin, but it all went down the drain in an instant\u2026<\/p>\n

Now I have to work hard again. Sorry, this turned into a total rant (-_-)<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the charm of Royu Driveway as I see it so far. That said, I\u2019m still a beginner who hasn\u2019t been there many times, so I\u2019m sure there are many more charms of Royu I don\u2019t know yet.<\/p>\n
