Although it was only about 15 minutes, today I\u2019d like to share my impressions from that drive.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the specifications of the Roadster provided by the owner in advance:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">\u30fbBody: Various MazdaSpeed braces<br \/>\n\u30fbSuspension: Bilstein B12 (mainly set for street driving)<br \/>\n\u30fbStabilizers: (Front: AutoExe, Rear: Cusco)<br \/>\n\u30fbClutch stopper (shortens the clutch pedal travel) and raised accelerator pedal installed<br \/>\n\u30fbWheels: (Advan RZ-II 16-inch 7J)<br \/>\n\u30fbTires: (Advan FLEVA 195\/50R16)<br \/>\nThe often-mentioned light and nimble feeling was harder to sense due to the swapped stabilizers, but since the muffler and other parts remain stock, the engine\u2019s character should still be authentic.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Test_Driving_the_Mazda_Roadster\"><\/span>Test Driving the Mazda Roadster<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>On the day, I found the Roadster by looking for the license plate I had been told beforehand \u2014 there it was! This was it!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13160\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_4098-1-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Roadster was parked next to a black Boxster, and the owners were chatting. It turned out that the Boxster owner was also a blog reader. What a small world! Thank you so much!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13164\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_4199-800x512.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"512\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At first glance, the Roadster\u2019s body color looked white, but on closer inspection, it had a slight bluish tint. The color is called <strong>Ceramic Metallic<\/strong>, and it looked stunning under the sunlight on the Royu Driveway. The blue wheels matched the body color perfectly, making it look really cool.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13161\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_4053-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Looking inside, the <strong>black seats with red stitching accents<\/strong> gave a nice touch, and the quality felt solid. Interiors with contrasting stitching like this might especially appeal to women.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13165\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_4048-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13162\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_4057-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then the owner kindly said, \u201c<strong>Shall we open the roof since we\u2019re here?<\/strong>\u201d and I got to see how the soft top opens\u2026<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Wow! It opens this easily!?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I was surprised. You just unlock the center latch, lift the roof, and push it down from above. It took less than 5 seconds to convert it to an open-top. This is so easy that any woman could do it <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(I have decent arm strength, so I thought I could do it easily, haha)<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13170\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_4200-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sitting in the driver\u2019s seat, the seating position was quite low, and this was the view from the cockpit.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13166\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_4061-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The short-throw shifter felt smooth and very easy to operate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13167\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_4060-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next, I pressed the clutch and found it <strong>light and shallow, making it very easy to use.<\/strong> Compared to that, the Boxster\u2019s clutch feels deep and heavy (\u2013_-); though I imagine air-cooled Porsches have even heavier clutches\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Compared to Porsche manuals, the Roadster\u2019s clutch is very light and easy to operate, which is great for women.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13168\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_4063-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13169\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/IMG_4075-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While I was playing with the clutch and shifting, the owner said, \u201c<strong>Would you like to take it for a spin? Please go for a drive together!<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Oh no, no\u2026!!<\/strong>\u201d I said, feeling shy, but my face was already smiling and my feet were heading toward the Roadster. My body was honest (laughs). So, we accepted the kind offer and my husband and I went for a test drive.<\/p>\n<p>I sat in the passenger seat first, and right after starting off, I felt the <strong>car had a solid road feel, was well built, and comfortable to ride.<\/strong> Also, once we started driving, I was surprised by how <strong>much less wind buffeting there was compared to the Boxster.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Boxster honestly has quite a bit of wind buffeting, which can be tough for women with long hair, but the Roadster had none of that, making it <strong>comfortable even in the passenger seat.<\/strong> The engine sound was neither obnoxiously loud nor too quiet \u2014 it was a pleasant, classic engine note that felt just right.<\/p>\n<p>I even got to drive a bit, and found <strong>the clutch operation incredibly easy.<\/strong> Usually, when driving a manual that\u2019s not your own, it takes a while to get used to the clutch feel, but with the Roadster, I quickly got the hang of it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13174\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/\u30b9\u30af\u30ea\u30fc\u30f3\u30b7\u30e7\u30c3\u30c8-2019-07-24-18.28.10-800x470.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"470\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Also, when driving my usual BMW 320i, certain maneuvers cause noticeable shift shock, but with the Roadster, there was almost none, making me wonder, \u201c<strong>Have I gotten better at driving?<\/strong>\u201d I felt relaxed and enjoyed the drive throughout.<\/p>\n<p>We even joked, \u201c<strong>Maybe we should have bought a Roadster instead of the 320i. But it\u2019s a two-seater, so no way.<\/strong>\u201d It was just that easy and well-made a car.<\/p>\n<p>The trunk space was surprisingly small <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(maybe the Boxster\u2019s trunk is just huge\u2026)<\/span>. When I put in my camera and bags, it looked like this:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13176\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG_4068-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So now, to the main event \u2014 or rather, the next part \u2014 here\u2019s my husband\u2019s test drive review.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13179\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG_4197-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/nd5rc-roadster\/2\/\"><strong>Next page \u2192 Impressions of the Roadster from a Porsche Owner Husband<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Porsche Owner Husband\u2019s Impressions of the Roadster<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">First Impressions<\/h4>\n<p>Starting off gently, the first thing I noticed was that the engine sound was very ordinary. It sounded like a typical passenger car. Reading the Roadster\u2019s development stories, I often see phrases like \u201cWe were obsessed with the sound and tuned it thoroughly,\u201d but I thought, \u201c<strong>Hmm, it\u2019s surprisingly quiet and normal-sounding.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear and accelerating, I felt, \u201cIt\u2019s not moving much. Or rather, the revs rise slowly.\u201d No wonder \u2014 my body was still tuned to the 500hp GT3 I had just been driving in manual.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13175\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/\u30b9\u30af\u30ea\u30fc\u30f3\u30b7\u30e7\u30c3\u30c8-2019-07-24-18.28.37-800x463.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"463\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Cornering<\/h4>\n<p>Calming down and setting aside preconceptions, I faced the car head-on.<\/p>\n<p>Feeling the power delivery and engine response, I took a corner slowly. Then, <strong>all the negative impressions I had vanished like a lie.<\/strong> The tires\u2019 grip was clearly communicated through the steering and chassis, and there was no hint of body weakness. The chassis rolled moderately with good front-to-rear balance, and the outside tires bore weight firmly.<\/p>\n<p>It cornered very smoothly and stably.<\/p>\n<p>I had driven the NB and NC generations a bit long ago, but honestly, I didn\u2019t expect it to drive this well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Compared to the Boxster, the Roadster has more body roll, but that roll never feels unstable.<\/strong> The roll doesn\u2019t just keep increasing lazily; it stops sharply at a certain point, and the car uses that roll to shift weight side to side for cornering. This particular car has upgraded stabilizers, so I don\u2019t know how the stock setup feels, but it was very well balanced.<\/p>\n<p>By comparison, the Boxster runs flatter and feels like it corners more with front-to-rear weight transfer than side to side. Being mid-engined, it pivots around its center like a spinning top, but <strong>the Roadster\u2019s rotation axis seems a bit further forward, closer to the driver\u2019s seat.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Driving it is genuinely a blast.<\/strong> It feels like I\u2019ve become a better driver as I smoothly carve through winding roads. I kept exclaiming to myself, \u201c<strong>This car is amazing!!<\/strong>\u201d (I got a bit carried away).<\/p>\n<p>At 3rd and 4th gears, the engine sound was very different from my first impression. It\u2019s not flashy, but it\u2019s <strong>pleasant.<\/strong> If I had to describe it in onomatopoeia, it would be \u201cbroom, broom,\u201d but there\u2019s a rhythm and heartbeat to it that makes it a really nice sound.<\/p>\n<p>It made me think, \u201cCruising down a country road in a lower gear would be so enjoyable.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Engine Power<\/h4>\n<p>The engine power also surprised me. Contrary to my initial impression, <strong>the balance with the lightweight body of just about 1 ton felt excellent.<\/strong> It might feel underpowered from a standstill, but when flowing through winding roads, it feels just right \u2014 manageable and fully controllable, which is very fun.<\/p>\n<p>So overall, it has enough power for enjoyable driving. It reminded me again that cars shouldn\u2019t be judged by power alone.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13177\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG_4193-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Brakes<\/h4>\n<p>Regarding the brakes, I felt they are more about adjusting by pedal travel than pedal force. Personally, I\u2019d prefer a bit more stopping power. <strong>This was the biggest difference I felt compared to the Boxster during this short test drive.<\/strong> Of course, there are other differences, but this was the most striking.<\/p>\n<p>With Porsches, every model has a certain \u201cfun and satisfaction\u201d when pressing the brake. While any car can give you the joy of acceleration, Porsches also give you the joy of deceleration \u2014 the satisfying feeling of slowing exactly as you want.<\/p>\n<p>The Roadster\u2019s brakes didn\u2019t quite deliver that level of fun, but I should add that I never felt unsafe or uneasy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13178\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/IMG_4194-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Overall Impression<\/h4>\n<p>That\u2019s my brief impression. If I were to choose among Japanese cars, the Roadster would definitely be on my list. Honestly, if I didn\u2019t own a Boxster, <strong>I\u2019d probably be running to the Mazda dealer right now.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Compared to the first generation, the Roadster has gotten pricier, but for this performance, it\u2019s reasonable \u2014 even a bargain. Of course, the Boxster is in a different price range, so if you compare hard specs like power and brakes, the Boxster wins hands down.<\/p>\n<p>However, even though their goals and directions differ, the Roadster\u2019s fun factor in the soft aspects rivals the Boxster. Especially on compact winding roads like the Royu Driveway, its fun and feel are truly wonderful. While personal preferences vary, <strong>I can confidently say the difference isn\u2019t as big as the price gap.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a certain company slogan, \u201cFun to Drive,\u201d but honestly, that phrase should belong to the Roadster.
