Riding the Boxster GTS After Several Months<\/h3>\n

One recent Sunday, since my mother-in-law was able to watch the kids, we went to the Royu Driveway in the morning, and then decided to head back there in the Boxster for about an hour in the afternoon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I thought, \u201cWow, it\u2019s been a long time since I last drove the Boxster,\u201d so I checked my blog and realized it had actually been half a year.<\/p>\n

\u2026Seriously?! (\uff9f\u0434\uff9f)!!<\/span><\/p>\n

At first, my husband drove, but when I got behind the wheel of the Boxster again, I was surprised at how smooth the ride felt<\/strong>. Maybe it was because I had driven the GT3 earlier that day, but it felt incredibly smooth for a sports car. Also, compared to the GT3, the noise on regular roads was much quieter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, after driving the Panamera, the Boxster\u2019s ride feels much stiffer and noisier<\/strong>, so depending on what car you\u2019ve been driving (either just before or regularly)<\/span>, your impression of the next car can change drastically. (This is probably why test drive reviews can be so tricky.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Boxster GTS @ Royu<\/h3>\n

After passing the toll booth on the Royu Driveway, my husband and I switched drivers.<\/p>\n

The moment had finally arrived.<\/p>\n

Actually, that morning I had driven the GT3 a little, but I was completely overwhelmed. While I didn\u2019t stall repeatedly, I could barely manage starts and shifts, and the GT3\u2019s intensity totally swallowed me up<\/strong>, so I ended up driving as slowly as if I were in a regular car (-_-).<\/p>\n

Plus, it had been half a year since I last drove the Boxster\u2014would I still be able to? I told myself, \u201cBut I drive a manual BMW 320i almost every day, so I should be fine!<\/strong>\u201d and got into the driver\u2019s seat.<\/p>\n

The clutch was still as heavy as ever. After adjusting the seat and steering wheel, I opened the roof and put the Boxster in open-top mode.<\/strong> I clicked the gear lever a few times to practice and somehow felt like I could drive this time. I slowly started moving forward, and\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026Oh! I managed to start moving safely!<\/span>(Though I guess it\u2019s a bit silly to celebrate just starting the car every time, haha)<\/span><\/p>\n

Before, I couldn\u2019t grasp where the clutch engaged or the feel of the biting point<\/strong>, but this time I understood it immediately. I guess that\u2019s the result of daily practice.<\/p>\n

I shifted up to second and third gears, and unlike before, I was able to drive more by feel than by overthinking<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u2026Looks like I can really drive this!<\/span><\/p>\n

Switching to Sport Plus mode with auto-blip ON, I raced up the twisty roads of the Royu Driveway. Every time I downshifted before a corner, the Boxster\u2019s roar echoed with a \u201cVroooom Vroooom!!\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This is insanely exhilarating!<\/span><\/p>\n

Usually, I always stop at the Higashi Rokko Observatory after climbing the Royu mountain road, but this time I kept going and pushed the Boxster further. Entering a long straight tunnel, I shifted up through fourth and fifth gears while listening to the engine\u2019s revs.<\/p>\n

The Boxster GTS\u2019s engine sound echoed throughout the tunnel.<\/strong> With the roof open, I could feel the Boxster with my whole body more than ever.<\/p>\n

Wow!! This is the best!! (\uff9f\u2200\uff9f)!!<\/span><\/p>\n

Overcome with emotion and excitement, I shouted,<\/p>\n

What the heck! The Boxster is such an amazing car!! Why didn\u2019t you tell me sooner!<\/p>\n

My husband replied,<\/p>\n

No, no, I\u2019ve been telling you for four years that it\u2019s an amazing car! And you\u2019ve gotten a lot better at driving. It feels like the Boxster is finally opening up to you.<\/strong><\/p>\n

That\u2019s right. I\u2019m not fully there yet, but I felt like \u201cWell, I\u2019ve finally reached the starting line, haven\u2019t I?\u201d<\/strong> and that the Boxster had somewhat accepted me.<\/p>\n

Still, driving the Boxster with the top down feels unbelievably good\u2026<\/p>\n

My husband\u2019s mentor, wata-san<\/a>, often goes on long tours across the country, driving thousands of kilometers at a time, yet still says, \u201cIt feels so good, I still want to keep driving.<\/strong>\u201d Before, I couldn\u2019t understand that at all.<\/p>\n

I thought he was crazy. But this time, I finally understood that feeling.<\/p>\n

You want to keep driving, endlessly, forever.<\/span><\/p>\n

While thinking that and feeling the wind, greenery, and the Boxster\u2019s engine sound with my whole body, I was suddenly overwhelmed with emotion and almost brought to tears.<\/p>\n

Oh no, I\u2019m about to cry, tears are coming\u2026!<\/p>\n

My husband excitedly said,<\/p>\n

Right?! You want to cry, don\u2019t you?! The Boxster really is the best car! Mina, you finally get it!!<\/p>\n

Honestly, from an outsider\u2019s perspective, this must look like a conversation between two total car geeks\u2026 (-_-)<\/p>\n

But that\u2019s how deeply moved I was. By the way, here\u2019s a video of that drive (I\u2019m still bad at clutch control and half-clutching though)<\/span>:<\/p>\n
