Recently, my husband was asked by an acquaintance, “Regardless of future value increases or rarity, if you had to keep only one from your current lineup, which one would you keep?<\/strong>”<\/p>\n I asked him, “That\u2019s a tough question! So, what did you say?<\/strong>” <\/p>\n Until recently, I would have said the 981 Boxster GTS, but now I\u2019d say I\u2019d keep the 911 Cabriolet (992).<\/p>\n he replied. When I asked, “Really? That\u2019s surprising! Why?<\/strong>” <\/p>\n Well, the 992 offers an incredible balance of driving performance and comfort. It\u2019s versatile and fun in every situation.<\/strong> Plus, it\u2019s insanely high-performance. I really love how capable it is. Especially after recently pushing it to the limit at Fuji Speedway, I\u2019m completely hooked on the 992. At this level, it\u2019s not about old Porsches versus new anymore\u2014it\u2019s just outstanding performance. Hearing him say that, I realize the 992 must be an exceptional car. I\u2019ve only driven it a few times, so I\u2019m probably only experiencing a fraction of its greatness.<\/p>\n I asked, “So, considering future value as well, if you had to keep only one from these, which would it be?<\/strong>” After thinking for a while, he said, <\/p>\n Hmm\u2026 narrowing down to one is basically impossible, haha. It\u2019s just not doable. There was a time I thought, “Maybe just the 911 Turbo S Cabriolet and the Cayenne would be enough<\/strong>,” but after driving various cars again, I realized I want to keep the 964, Boxster, and GT3 too. He continued, <\/p>\n Lately, if I\u2019m going to run on the track, it\u2019s probably better to have a GT3 RS rather than a GT3 Touring.<\/strong> The PDK is definitely faster than a manual, too. Also, it feels like a waste to push a GT3 Touring hard on the track. Thinking calmly, we are a family of five with only two adults who can drive, so normally one or two cars would be enough. \nAnd the 992 isn\u2019t just about looks; it has the spirit of an air-cooled Porsche under the skin. It feels like what an air-cooled Porsche would be if it were reborn today with ultra-high performance.<\/strong> I especially feel that with the Carrera.
\nOur 964 gives a strong sense of being connected to the car while driving, and the 992 has that feeling too. The handling on the 992 is incredible\u2014very natural and fast. It makes you want to drive it more actively.<\/strong> The 981 Boxster GTS is great too, but the 992 handles city driving, long trips, winding roads, and even the track at a high level across the board.<\/strong> So if I had to keep one, it\u2019d be the 992.<\/p>\n![\"Porsche](\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/IMG_1978-1.jpg\")
<\/p>\nNarrowing Down to One Porsche?<\/h3>\n
\nThe 964 just passed its inspection recently and has had a lot of maintenance, so it\u2019s in fantastic shape now. Since we\u2019ve gone this far, I want to keep driving it for a while.
\nAlso, if I let go of the 981 Boxster GTS or GT3 Touring, it might be hard to find one in good condition again.<\/strong> The 981\u2019s engine sound is amazing, and the GT3 is a rare Touring Package. When you drive it, you really feel it\u2019s a true GT3, so I want to keep it. But if I had to pick just one, I guess I\u2019d keep the 981 Boxster GTS.<\/p>\n
\nBut then again, do I really want to go all the way to a GT3 RS? Not sure\u2026
\nSo maybe buying a basic 718 Cayman for track use<\/strong> might be a good idea. It\u2019s easy to drive, fast, and seems perfect for pushing hard.
\nThat said, then I\u2019d have to decide which car to part with from the current lineup. The 992 and Cayman serve very different purposes. Also, I don\u2019t really want to add more two-seaters to the house.
\nAnd I don\u2019t think we\u2019ll be adding any more cars from here on out.<\/strong> Even now, oil changes, inspections, parking swaps, and washing keep us really busy (laughs). Plus, I love driving, so if we had more cars, I wouldn\u2019t get to drive them enough. So deciding what to sell is tough. Lately, I\u2019ve even thought it might be fun to try cars other than Porsches.<\/p>\n
