As a Porsche Owner<\/h3>\n

I don\u2019t consider myself a confident driver, so I usually don\u2019t drive fast. In fact, I tend to drive quite slowly, and my husband often tells me, “You need to drive a bit faster to really appreciate what this car can do\u2026<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n

That said, whenever I see news reports about accidents involving Porsches on TV, it hits close to home and scares me.<\/p>\n

Just recently, I saw a news story about an accident involving an air-cooled Porsche in Kyushu. Since I\u2019ve driven that same fast road in my Panamera, I felt uneasy thinking, “So that\u2019s where the accident happened\u2026<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n

\"Porsche<\/p>\n

Actually, not long ago when the autumn leaves were still beautiful, I drove my 911 alone to the Royu Driveway. The road up to the Ashiya tollgate is quite tight with many narrow curves, so I don\u2019t usually drive fast there, and that day was no different.<\/p>\n

Then, just after exiting a certain curve, the car suddenly started to skid sideways, and with a rattling sound, the electronic stability control kicked in.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I had only experienced the stability control intervention during Porsche driving school sessions, so it was quite frightening. That day, I drove up to the observation deck and then immediately turned back home.<\/p>\n

At the time, I didn\u2019t understand why the car skidded at that speed,<\/strong> so I asked my husband after I got home. He said:<\/p>\n

It was probably because you drove over fallen leaves. And since it had rained quite a bit until yesterday, those wet leaves make the road slippery. You have to avoid them because they\u2019re dangerous. If it had been an air-cooled Porsche without safety features, you might have crossed into the oncoming lane, and if it had been a motorcycle, you\u2019d have definitely slipped and fallen. You really need to pay closer attention to road conditions when driving.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I thought, wow\u2026 fallen leaves are that dangerous!<\/p>\n

That\u2019s when I realized how such factors can cause serious accidents, and I deeply felt the importance of always driving safely and understanding road conditions and the car\u2019s behavior thoroughly before driving.<\/strong><\/p>\n

About Driving a Porsche<\/h3>\n

So far, I\u2019ve participated twice in the Porsche Driving School (Porsche Track Experience)<\/strong>, where I learned the importance of adjusting the seat position properly, and basic techniques like applying full brakes first when something suddenly appears, then steering only after the speed has dropped.<\/p>\n

We also practiced steady-state circular driving in heavy rain to experience understeer and oversteer, and repeated full acceleration followed by full braking more than ten times. From this, I felt that “modern Porsches won\u2019t become uncontrollable unless you drive recklessly.<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

During the sessions, the instructor, a professional racer, said:<\/p>\n

“Always strive to improve your precision so you can deliver stable performance in any situation. If you can do that, you\u2019ll naturally be able to drive faster.<\/strong>“<\/p>\n

Those words from a racer who regularly drives on circuits and understands the dangers of cars really stuck with me. Seeking speed is only meaningful when you have a foundation of stable driving.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I think Porsche\u2019s incredible performance can also tempt drivers to get overconfident. The car can accelerate endlessly and handle curves at high speed so smoothly that it feels great, which sometimes leads to driving too fast.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why if you\u2019re driving a high-performance car like a Porsche, you need to be even more conscious of safety than usual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My Husband\u2019s Perspective as a Porsche Driver<\/h3>\n

My husband often gets the chance to test drive various cars and frequently drives with owners as passengers. Many owners tell him, “You\u2019re a great driver.<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve ridden in several cars with him driving, and I feel his driving is smooth, with no sudden steering or abrupt pedal movements, making it comfortable for passengers.<\/p>\n

Regarding sports car driving, he often says:<\/p>\n

If you just apply what you learned at driving school to a sports car, you won\u2019t really understand the fun of it.<\/strong> That\u2019s why some people try to enjoy it by driving fast or making quick steering inputs to create thrilling situations. But sports cars are called \u201csports\u201d for a reason \u2014 you can\u2019t learn to drive them properly on your own.<\/strong> Like skiing, snowboarding, or golf, beginners dramatically improve just by learning the correct driving position and basics from an instructor.<\/strong> I was the same \u2014 trying to \u201cdo sports\u201d without knowing how to use the equipment properly.<\/strong> It\u2019s like trying to enjoy golf with a completely wrong grip and swing form. Once you master the basics, you can enjoy driving comfortably and more safely without needing to drive so fast.<\/strong> You\u2019ll also be kinder to your car and passengers. Recently, when I was taught by Ryo Ogawa<\/a> at a Porsche driving school, he said, “It makes sense to drive so smoothly that you don\u2019t spill water inside the car, like in the manga Initial D.<\/strong> That\u2019s a bit exaggerated, but in reality, placing a water bottle in the cup holder and driving so the water inside barely moves is a good practice.”<\/p>\n

I see\u2026 that\u2019s profound.<\/p>\n

I want to improve my driving skills more, too.
