Taking the GT3 and Boxster<\/h3>\n

Now that I was finally able to drive my manual-transmission Boxster GTS, we decided to take the kids to the Royu Driveway last Sunday in both the GT3 and the Boxster. When we visited the Royu lookout in July, I\u2019d forgotten to put on sunscreen and got a nasty sunburn on my arms and d\u00e9colletage\u2014(like this\u2193)<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

This time, I slathered on sunscreen\u2014\u201cand then some!\u201d\u2014over my face, arms, neck, and d\u00e9colletage<\/strong>. I also bought a proper, heavy-duty straw hat for farm work at a home improvement store, so I was fully prepared. (At this point, I wasn\u2019t worried about looking stylish.)<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

This was actually my first time driving the Boxster all the way from home to the Royu Driveway entirely on my own. I figured I\u2019d manage as long as my husband followed behind in the GT3.<\/p>\n

But the exit from our home parking area is on a slight slope. The Auto Hold didn\u2019t engage, and when I took my foot off the brake, the car rolled back farther than I expected. My husband, watching from outside, told me:<\/p>\n

\u201cYou were this close to hitting the block behind you! (\uff9f\u0434\uff9f)!\u201d<\/p>\n

Not exactly the best start\u2026 I was relieved I hadn\u2019t hit anything, but set off feeling pretty nervous.<\/p>\n

Still, I was already used to driving a manual, so I got on with it surprisingly well. No stalls, no sweaty-palmed moments\u2014and we made it safely to the Royu lookout. What a relief! \u03b5-(\u00b4\u2200\uff40*)<\/p>\n

Someone had posted on Twitter that the parking lot was already full at 7 a.m., so we worried there\u2019d be nowhere to park when we arrived after 8. As it turned out, a spot opened up at just the right time.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

That day brought both happy reunions and plenty of new faces: an owner who had once given me a ride in his Mazda Roadster, some of my Twitter followers, and followers of my husband on Instagram. One person even said:<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw on Twitter yesterday that you\u2019d be coming up to Royu in the Boxster and GT3, so I thought I\u2019d come by and be here for the momentous occasion of your first time arriving in two cars!\u201d<\/p>\n

That made me laugh\u2014and I was genuinely grateful.<\/p>\n

We also had the chance to meet a well-known air-cooled Porsche owner who had been featured in 911DAYS<\/em>. I\u2019d heard about him from various people, and he told me he\u2019d been reading my blog for some time. It really felt like, \u201cWe finally meet!<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

What Makes the Royu Driveway Special<\/h3>\n

It really struck me again: Royu is full of such nice people.<\/strong> A while back, a reader left this comment about the Royu Driveway:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe road is fun to drive. Motorcycles aren\u2019t allowed on Sundays, which makes it safer. Before around 11 a.m., there aren\u2019t many sightseeing cars heading through to Arima yet, so traffic is light.
\nIt\u2019s also a relatively expensive toll road, which keeps traffic down. All of that makes it an ideal place for a drive. And because of that, a lot of people who come here are genuine car enthusiasts who are here to drive (that\u2019s important! lol).
\nWhen you get together with people who treat their cars as fashion accessories or just want to show off, you don\u2019t have much in common. The regulars at Royu really do love driving and cars, so people of all ages and with all kinds of cars can enjoy talking together\u2014and everyone makes you feel welcome. lol
\nThat\u2019s the kind of place it is, haha.\u201d<\/p>\n

Exactly! Absolutely!<\/span><\/p>\n

What a spot-on description. There\u2019s nothing wrong with owning a car as a style statement, of course; car enthusiasts simply come in all kinds. But at Royu, you meet people who are considerate, know how to behave, and genuinely love cars and driving. That\u2019s why it\u2019s so easy to connect\u2014and why the place feels so welcoming.<\/p>\n

A Photo Shoot with the GT3 and Boxster<\/h3>\n

Before long, chatting with the other owners had me soaked in sweat after just 30 minutes<\/strong>. The kids were sweating, too, so we took a break inside the Boxster to avoid anyone getting heat exhaustion.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The temperature that morning was 28\u00b0C, but the sun was fierce at that altitude. When there was no breeze, it felt more like 35\u00b0C.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

After our break, we went back to checking out everyone\u2019s cars and chatting, but it was just so hot\u2026 (-_-) The kids wanted ice cream, so we took another break. We were starting to get tired, too, so we decided to leave the lookout before 10 a.m.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Since we\u2019d come in two cars, we decided to stop at one of our usual photo spots\u2014not exactly a secret, though<\/span>\u2014and take a few shots of the Boxster and GT3 together before heading home.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cWe finally got a photo of these two together! They look so good!\u201d I was excitedly snapping away when the sound of a sports car engine approached. And there they were: a 981 Boxster Spyder and a 911 4S (a rare, limited-edition 993 model)<\/span>!<\/p>\n

They were friends of my husband, so they stopped by, giving us the chance to capture a rare four-car lineup: the 911 GT3 Touring, Boxster GTS, Boxster Spyder, and 993 4S.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

We were there for only about two hours, but this visit to the Royu Driveway was a lot of fun. Still, it was just too hot, so maybe I\u2019ll wait until the weather cools down before going again\u2026 Getting here at 6 a.m. is out of the question for me.<\/p>\n

Since we brought the kids, I couldn\u2019t take anyone up on their offer of a ride in their car. But a few people said, \u201cFeel free to take it for a spin<\/strong>,\u201d so I hope I can accept their kind offer next time my husband and I come on our own.<\/p>\n

If I do get the chance, I\u2019d love to try an Abarth 124 Spider, a Toyota 86, or even a Subaru\u2026 That\u2019s what I\u2019ve been thinking lately. (Sorry for getting carried away!)<\/span><\/p>\n
