Time flies, and it\u2019s already been almost two years. Since two years have passed, it was time for the 1-year inspection, so recently we took our Panamera to the Porsche Center for its annual checkup.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, they lent us a Cayenne as a loaner car during the inspection.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"okMvTjQvST\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/cayenne-turbo-958\/\">\u30dd\u30eb\u30b7\u30a7 \u30ab\u30a4\u30a8\u30f3\u30bf\u30fc\u30dc\uff08958 \u5f8c\u671f\uff09\u8a66\u4e57\u30ec\u30d3\u30e5\u30fc<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/cayenne-turbo-958\/embed\/#?secret=okMvTjQvST\" data-secret=\"okMvTjQvST\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" title=\"&#8220;\u30dd\u30eb\u30b7\u30a7 \u30ab\u30a4\u30a8\u30f3\u30bf\u30fc\u30dc\uff08958 \u5f8c\u671f\uff09\u8a66\u4e57\u30ec\u30d3\u30e5\u30fc&#8221; &#8212; \u30dd\u30eb\u30b7\u30a7\u304c\u308f\u304c\u5bb6\u306b\u3084\u3063\u3066\u304d\u305f - \u30aa\u30fc\u30ca\u30fc\u30ba\u30d6\u30ed\u30b0\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This time, we dropped off the Panamera at the Porsche Center on Friday morning and picked it up with the whole family on Saturday evening. When we arrived at the Porsche Center, I noticed the \u201cNew 911\u201d flags fluttering and thought, <strong>\u201cCome to think of it, I still haven\u2019t test-driven the 992 yet\u2026\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I wondered, <strong>\u201cIs it too late to test drive it and post a blog now?\u201d<\/strong> but I\u2019m hoping to go for a test drive again once it cools down\u2026 well, actually, I should just go regardless of the heat, but with this lingering summer heat, it\u2019s hard to get motivated to go out. <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(By the way, today\u2019s high was 36\u00b0C)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13826\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_4836-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now, back to the Panamera inspection. The inspection details and results were:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">\u30fb12-month statutory inspection<br \/>\n\u30fbPCM map data update<br \/>\n\u30fbEngine oil change<br \/>\n\u30fbOil filter replacement<br \/>\n\u30fbBrake fluid replacement<br \/>\n\u30fbWiper blade replacement<br \/>\n\u30fbAir conditioning filter replacement<br \/>\n\u30fbBrake pad remaining thickness F: 7.0mm R: 10.0mm<br \/>\n\u30fbTire tread remaining F: 2.5mm R: 3.9mm<br \/>\n\u30fbMileage: 24,851 km<br \/>\n\u30fbComplete car wash<br \/>\nand more<\/p>\n<p>Looking at the details, I asked my husband, <strong>\u201cWhat\u2019s brake fluid? (-_-)&#8221;<\/strong>, and he replied, \u201cWait, you don\u2019t know what brake fluid is?\u201d So I looked it up online and found:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">\u201cBrake fluid is the liquid filled in the hydraulic brake system of automobiles. It is also called brake oil.\u201d<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">*Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/ja.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%E3%83%96%E3%83%AC%E3%83%BC%E3%82%AD%E3%83%95%E3%83%AB%E3%83%BC%E3%83%89\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wikipedia \u201cBrake Fluid\u201d<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>I thought, <strong>\u201cOh, so it\u2019s brake oil! It would be easier to understand if they just called it brake oil.\u201d<\/strong> As a complete novice, I muttered to myself\u2026 There are still so many car-related terms I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n<p>During this inspection, they told us, <strong>\u201cThe front tires\u2019 tread is quite worn, so it\u2019s best to replace them soon.\u201d<\/strong> Generally, on an FR Panamera, the rear tires wear out faster. I asked my husband, <strong>\u201cDoes that mean our Panamera isn\u2019t FR since the front tires are worn?\u201d<\/strong>, and he said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Hmm, probably because we mainly use it for city driving, making lots of right and left turns at intersections, which wears down the front tires more. Also, since the Panamera Turbo is all-wheel drive, <strong>torque is applied to the front tires as well<\/strong>. Plus, the heavy V8 engine is mounted in the front, which might contribute to the wear.<\/p>\n<p>I see\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13824\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_4905-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I wasn\u2019t quite sure about the logic that on FR cars the rear tires wear faster, so I looked it up when I got home:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\"><strong>FF cars are front-wheel drive, so the front wheels bear heavy loads during starting, accelerating, turning, decelerating, and stopping.<\/strong> On the other hand, <strong>rear-wheel drive FR cars put more load on the rear tires during starting and acceleration<\/strong>, but during turning, deceleration, and stopping, the front tires bear heavy loads just like FF cars. Comparing FF and FR, <strong>FF cars tend to have a slightly front-heavy weight balance, so the front tires wear out faster.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">*<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gooparts.com\/parts-navi\/tire-wheel\/076.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Source: Differences in Tire Wear Between FF and FR (Front and Rear Tires)<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>That makes sense.<\/p>\n<p>That said, it feels a bit wasteful to replace the tires right now, so we\u2019re still considering <strong>when to replace the tires, or whether to keep them and just trade in the car<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Cost of the 1-Year Inspection<\/h3>\n<p>As for the inspection cost, our contact person H said,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">This time, it\u2019s free, so no worries.<\/p>\n<p>I thought, <strong>\u201cFree!? Is this a service?\u201d<\/strong> but H continued,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">Well, it\u2019s not really free because you\u2019ve already paid in advance.<\/p>\n<p>and grinned (laughs). That reminded me that last year, when we had the Panamera\u2019s 1-year inspection, we signed up for the <strong>Porsche Scheduled Maintenance Plan (PSMP)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"KQxCULRuzm\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/panamera-1year-inspection\/\">\u30dd\u30eb\u30b7\u30a7 \u30d1\u30ca\u30e1\u30fc\u30e91\u5e74\u70b9\u691c\u2212\u70b9\u691c\u30fb\u90e8\u54c1\u4ea4\u63db\u30aa\u30fc\u30eb\u30a4\u30f3\u30ef\u30f3\u30d1\u30c3\u30b1\u30fc\u30b8\u306e\u8cbb\u7528\u306f\uff1f<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/panamera-1year-inspection\/embed\/#?secret=KQxCULRuzm\" data-secret=\"KQxCULRuzm\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" title=\"&#8220;\u30dd\u30eb\u30b7\u30a7 \u30d1\u30ca\u30e1\u30fc\u30e91\u5e74\u70b9\u691c\u2212\u70b9\u691c\u30fb\u90e8\u54c1\u4ea4\u63db\u30aa\u30fc\u30eb\u30a4\u30f3\u30ef\u30f3\u30d1\u30c3\u30b1\u30fc\u30b8\u306e\u8cbb\u7528\u306f\uff1f&#8221; &#8212; \u30dd\u30eb\u30b7\u30a7\u304c\u308f\u304c\u5bb6\u306b\u3084\u3063\u3066\u304d\u305f - \u30aa\u30fc\u30ca\u30fc\u30ba\u30d6\u30ed\u30b0\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>PSMP is a service that <strong>owners who purchase a new car at an authorized Porsche dealer can apply for within one year of purchase<\/strong>. It covers fixed fees for statutory inspections, manufacturer inspections, and replacement\/refill of major parts.<\/p>\n<p>For the Panamera Turbo, the 3-year plan costs 319,680 yen, including the first vehicle inspection fee <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(tax included, as of August 2018)<\/span>. Previously, when we had the 970 Panamera Edition, the 1-year inspection cost over 100,000 yen, so this plan is a good deal.<\/p>\n<p>However, <strong>for households that don\u2019t drive much, paying for inspections as needed is cheaper than joining PSMP<\/strong>. For families like ours who drive a fair amount annually and require regular parts and oil changes, it\u2019s a good value.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-13827\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_4837-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">The Panamera Is a Sports Car<\/h3>\n<p>After riding the Panamera, we left the Porsche Center saying, <strong>\u201cThe Panamera really is a great car.\u201d<\/strong> Honestly, every time we get back in the Panamera after a while, we\u2019re as thrilled as if it were our first time.<\/p>\n<p>The Cayenne is of course a great car, but the Panamera is truly a sports car. The low seating position, the grounded feel, the engine sound, the powerful acceleration\u2026 savoring all this, we quickly arrived home.<\/p>\n<p>Next year is the vehicle inspection, so my husband is already thinking about what to do with the Panamera by then.
