The mornings and evenings have cooled down a bit, but daytime temperatures are still climbing close to 30 degrees Celsius. That said, we\u2019re finally free from the intense midsummer heat, so I decided to take the freshly maintained air-cooled Porsche 911 (964) out for a spin.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"dPRUDfhjTv\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/air-cooled-porsche-meintenance\/\">\u30dd\u30eb\u30b7\u30a7911 \u30c6\u30a3\u30d7\u30c8\u30ed\u30cb\u30c3\u30af\u306eATF\u4ea4\u63db\u3068\u305d\u306e\u4ed6\u6574\u5099\u8a18\u9332<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/air-cooled-porsche-meintenance\/embed\/#?secret=dPRUDfhjTv\" data-secret=\"dPRUDfhjTv\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" title=\"&#8220;\u30dd\u30eb\u30b7\u30a7911 \u30c6\u30a3\u30d7\u30c8\u30ed\u30cb\u30c3\u30af\u306eATF\u4ea4\u63db\u3068\u305d\u306e\u4ed6\u6574\u5099\u8a18\u9332&#8221; &#8212; \u30dd\u30eb\u30b7\u30a7\u304c\u308f\u304c\u5bb6\u306b\u3084\u3063\u3066\u304d\u305f - \u30aa\u30fc\u30ca\u30fc\u30ba\u30d6\u30ed\u30b0\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The day was clear from the morning, so I took my younger daughter along and headed to the Royu Driveway. My husband had been raving about how <strong>\u201cthe maintenance made it feel incredibly better\u201d<\/strong>, so I was curious to see how the car had changed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14342\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_5037-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As soon as I started the engine and began driving, I was surprised by how <strong>smooth and lively the ride felt<\/strong>. It wasn\u2019t that it lacked smoothness before, but the rough edges had disappeared, and it was in excellent condition. I couldn\u2019t help but email my husband my impressions:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Try driving it in manual mode, fixed in 2nd or 3rd gear.<\/p>\n<p>He replied. \u201c<strong>Come to think of it, you\u2019ve never driven it in manual mode before.<\/strong>\u201d So, just past the Royu toll gate, I stopped the car, switched the gear to \u201cM,\u201d and gave it a try.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14343\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_5040-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">964 in Manual Mode<\/h3>\n<p>I accelerated while keeping the shift lever in 2nd gear, and the feeling was <strong>energetic and remarkably smooth for a 30-year-old car<\/strong>. The engine sound was different from the \u201cbursting sweet notes\u201d of a Boxster; it was a pure, unadorned engine tone that resonated pleasantly.<\/p>\n<p>When cornering, I tried to focus on weight transfer as my husband had advised: \u201c<strong>Lift off the throttle to shift weight to the front, then turn&#8230;<\/strong>\u201d but\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Hmm, I\u2019m not sure if I got it right or not\u2026 (-_-)<\/p>\n<p>I tried this on every curve, but my driving lacked rhythm and sharpness, and I kept thinking, \u201cHmm\u2026 this isn\u2019t quite right\u2026\u201d before arriving at the lookout point.<\/p>\n<p>Since it was a weekday morning, I expected the lookout to be empty, but there were already about five cars parked, with people enjoying the view.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14351\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_5048-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I thought to let my daughter play a little at the lookout, but the sun was strong and it was quite hot. Even at the lookout, daytime temperatures were still high.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14344\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_5045-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14350\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_5047-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The sun was blazing so intensely that after about 10 minutes, we decided to head home. As I got back into the 964, a 911 (997) approached from the opposite direction. The silhouette of a 911 from the side is truly stunning.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14346\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_5050-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After that, we drove straight home, making it about a 30-minute drive. It felt great to drive the 964 on the Royu Driveway again after such a long time.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Tiptronic Fun<\/h3>\n<p>My husband said about this 964,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">You don\u2019t need to drive it manually to enjoy it. Manual is fun, of course, but Tiptronic is also incredibly enjoyable.<\/p>\n<p>After driving it in manual mode this time, I understood why he said that. When I got home, I told him, \u201cI had fun driving the air-cooled on Royu in manual mode today. Unlike paddle shifters, <strong>this manual mode is strangely enjoyable.<\/strong>\u201d He replied,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Right? It only has 4 gears, and 2nd and 3rd cover a wide speed range, so you can keep it fixed and still have smooth acceleration. That\u2019s why it feels so good.<\/p>\n<p>I see.<\/p>\n<p>Air-cooled Porsches are deeply fun and rewarding, but I\u2019m not confident in my driving skills, nor do I want to push myself to improve as much as my husband does.
