After that, I received lots of <strong>ideas and advice from readers on how to clean wheels effectively<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"naffXigxw0\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/wash-my-car-bmw\/\">BMW\u3092\u6d17\u8eca &#8211; \u30ac\u30bd\u30ea\u30f3\u30b9\u30bf\u30f3\u30c9\u306e\u81ea\u52d5\u6d17\u8eca\u6a5f\u3067\u6c5a\u308c\u306f\u3069\u306e\u7a0b\u5ea6\u3068\u308c\u308b\u306e\u304b\uff1f<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/wash-my-car-bmw\/embed\/#?secret=naffXigxw0\" data-secret=\"naffXigxw0\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" title=\"&#8220;BMW\u3092\u6d17\u8eca &#8211; \u30ac\u30bd\u30ea\u30f3\u30b9\u30bf\u30f3\u30c9\u306e\u81ea\u52d5\u6d17\u8eca\u6a5f\u3067\u6c5a\u308c\u306f\u3069\u306e\u7a0b\u5ea6\u3068\u308c\u308b\u306e\u304b\uff1f&#8221; &#8212; \u30dd\u30eb\u30b7\u30a7\u304c\u308f\u304c\u5bb6\u306b\u3084\u3063\u3066\u304d\u305f - \u30aa\u30fc\u30ca\u30fc\u30ba\u30d6\u30ed\u30b0\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I even tried wiping them down with a sponge myself, but the remaining dirt was so stubborn that I thought, &#8220;<strong>No matter how many sponges I have, it won\u2019t be enough<\/strong>.&#8221; So, I decided to try getting wheel coating done at the nearest gas station.<\/p>\n<p>I took my beloved BMW 320i to the gas station right away, but I was shocked when I heard the price for wheel coating!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">For 16\u201319 inch wheels, it\u2019s &#8220;11,000 yen&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Is coating really that expensive? I couldn\u2019t help but ask a rather rude question: &#8220;<strong>Does wheel coating actually make a difference? (-_-)<\/strong>&#8221; The staff replied,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">Yes, it makes a big difference. It makes dirt less likely to stick, and even if it does, it comes off easily with a wipe, so it\u2019s much easier to maintain. The effect generally lasts about a year.<\/p>\n<p>I thought, \u201cThat sounds good,\u201d and since I couldn\u2019t verify it without trying, I decided to go ahead. They said the wheel coating process involves &#8220;<strong>cleaning the wheels first, applying the coating, and letting it dry, which takes about 50 minutes<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>By the way, here\u2019s what the wheels looked like before bringing them in.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14019\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_4314-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After going through the automatic car wash, there were fine scratches all over, making it look pretty rough. Even the brake discs are sparkling (*\uff9f\u2200\uff9f)!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>They looked much cleaner than I expected, and just looking at them felt great\u2014I was very satisfied with the result. That said, the important thing is &#8220;<strong>how long this condition lasts<\/strong>&#8221; and &#8220;<strong>how easily dirt comes off<\/strong>,&#8221; so I decided to observe them for a while.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">After the Wheel Coating<\/h3>\n<p>Here\u2019s what the wheels looked like one week after the coating.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_4815-1-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some dirt has started to accumulate, but it looks like it could be wiped off easily. Here\u2019s the state three weeks after coating.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14025\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_4941-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s getting a bit dirty. However, I remember that when my BMW 320i was first delivered, &#8220;<strong>after three weeks it was much dirtier overall, with a rusty iron-like color<\/strong>,&#8221; so this is better in comparison.<\/p>\n<p>Next, I decided to <strong>try wiping off the dirt on just one wheel<\/strong>. I prepared a sponge, a spray bottle, and a dry towel.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14026\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_4943-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>First, I sprayed water with the spray bottle, then scrubbed with the sponge, and finally wiped lightly with the dry towel\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14035\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_4944-1-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Wow\u2014it got pretty clean! Even someone clumsy like me managed it. Using this method, I wiped the other parts as well, and in just about a minute, it looked like this.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14028\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_4947-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14030\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_4950-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So clean! <strong>If it\u2019s this easy to get clean with just water, that\u2019s great<\/strong>\u2026 but my hands got pretty dirty.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14031\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_4948-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14032\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_4945-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When I tweeted about this, someone commented,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">When cleaning cars (especially wheels), you have to wear silicone gloves~\uff3e\uff3e<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Really? I had no idea! (\uff9f\u0434\uff9f)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2026I guess I haven\u2019t been washing my car properly until now\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Later that day, I told my husband, &#8220;<strong>I wiped the wheels and they got clean right away!<\/strong>&#8221; and he said this:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Well, that\u2019s obvious, right? Of course it comes off if you wipe it (-_-). The important thing is whether you can remove wheel dirt quickly with a pressure washer or automatic car wash without the hassle of wiping.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">T-That\u2019s true\u2026 (\uff9f\u0434\uff9f)<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(What a silly person\u2026)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Wiping is a hassle and your hands get dirty, so the key is whether you can easily remove wheel dirt without that. So, I decided to try both the automatic car wash and the pressure washer later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/wheel-coating\/2\/\">Next page \u2192 Can a pressure washer or automatic car wash really remove dirt\u2026?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Heading to the Automatic Car Wash!<\/h3>\n<p>First, I went to the automatic car wash. Here\u2019s what the wheels looked like before washing.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14430\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_4961-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Looking at them, they\u2019re pretty dirty. For the car wash course, I chose the &#8220;<strong>Thorough Undercarriage Course<\/strong>&#8220;\u2014maybe it\u2019s just my mindset, but I figured it was worth trying.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14431\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_4963-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So, how did the wheels look after the automatic car wash?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14432\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_4967-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hmm\u2026 not great (-_-). They did get cleaner, but they\u2019re not sparkling, and <strong>the really dirty spots didn\u2019t come off<\/strong>. Here\u2019s a close-up.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/\u30b9\u30af\u30ea\u30fc\u30f3\u30b7\u30e7\u30c3\u30c8-2019-09-30-21.10.37.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"678\" height=\"396\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Is wheel coating not worth it given how expensive it is\u2026?<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Trying the Pressure Washer!<\/h3>\n<p>Determined to try again, <strong>next I used a pressure washer.<\/strong> Here\u2019s what the wheels looked like before washing.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14434\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_5070-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Pretty dirty\u2026 This was actually my first time using a pressure washer, so I was a bit nervous as I pressed the switch, and was immediately surprised by the incredible water pressure. No wonder it\u2019s called a pressure washer!<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Obviously lol)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14435\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_5071-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14436\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_5072-600x800.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was nervous thinking, &#8220;<strong>If I drop my phone and it gets soaked, that\u2019s the end of it<\/strong>,&#8221; but while taking photos of the washing process, I glanced at the wheels and was amazed!<\/p>\n<p>After just about 10 seconds, the dirt on the wheels was completely gone!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14437\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_5074-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is amazing! And it feels great (laughs). In about a minute, all four wheels were spotless.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-14438\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/IMG_5075-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When I showed the photos to my husband after getting home, he said,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Yeah, they\u2019re really clean. For my Boxster\u2019s wheels, stubborn dirt around the hub area can\u2019t be removed with just a pressure washer\u2014you have to scrub those spots. <strong>I do think wheel coating has its benefits<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Is Wheel Coating Worth It?<\/h3>\n<p>Wheel coating can be pricey, so if you frequently wash your car yourself, you might not need it. But for someone like me who\u2019s a bit lazy, &#8220;<strong>having dirt stick less and come off easily<\/strong>&#8221; is a blessing.<\/p>\n<p>Also, considering it costs 11,000 yen and lasts about a year, that\u2019s just over 900 yen per month, which doesn\u2019t seem like a bad investment.
