{"id":37644,"date":"2020-09-13T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-09-12T21:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/?p=37644"},"modified":"2021-06-01T23:11:58","modified_gmt":"2021-06-01T14:11:58","slug":"718-gts-pdk-202009","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/en\/entry\/718-gts-pdk-202009\/","title":{"rendered":"PDK Finally Arrives for Porsche 718 Boxster\/Cayman GTS 4.0, GT4, and Spider Models"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"style3a\">PDK Comes to the High-End 718 Models<\/h3>\n<p>Recently, Porsche announced the addition of PDK models for the <strong>\u201c718 Boxster GTS 4.0,\u201d \u201c718 Cayman GTS 4.0,\u201d \u201c718 Spider,\u201d and \u201c718 Cayman GT4\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>While the GTS models have been available with PDK before, the fact that <strong>Spider and GT4 models\u2014previously only offered with manual transmissions\u2014can now be equipped with PDK<\/strong> is great news for many enthusiasts.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, unlike previous 718 models powered by flat-four engines, the new \u201c718 Boxster GTS 4.0,\u201d \u201c718 Cayman GTS 4.0,\u201d \u201c718 Spider,\u201d and \u201c718 Cayman GT4\u201d feature the <strong>return of the 4.0L flat-six engine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-19707\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/b-P19_0553_a3_rgb-1280x721.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"721\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Although these are limited models, I\u2019ve heard that production numbers might be somewhat substantial, so I imagine many people will want one.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">PDK for the 718: Does My Husband Want One?<\/h3>\n<p>Several readers have asked in comments and messages, \u201c<strong>What does your husband think about the addition of PDK to the 718 GTS, Spider, and GT4 models?<\/strong>\u201d So I asked him, and here\u2019s what he said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Regarding the news that PDK is now available for the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0, 718 Cayman GTS 4.0, 718 Spider, and 718 Cayman GT4: the GTS has had PDK since the previous generation, but <strong>this is the first time PDK can be chosen for the GT4 and Spider<\/strong>, so it\u2019s quite a hot topic.<br \/>\nAlso, for the 718 Spider and 718 Cayman GT4, <strong>0-100 km\/h acceleration is about 0.5 seconds faster than the manual versions, approaching 911-level performance<\/strong>. That\u2019s something unimaginable with older Porsches. In the past, Boxsters and Caymans were clearly kept slower than the 911 to maintain a distinct gap.<br \/>\nPersonally, <strong>the GT4 with PDK is what I\u2019m most excited about<\/strong>. I think it would be incredibly fast and fun on the track. But since there are rumors of a GT4 RS coming, if I were to buy mainly for circuit use, I might wait a bit for the GT4 RS.<br \/>\nAs for the Spider, if I were to choose it, I\u2019d want to enjoy the winding roads by syncing with the car through a manual transmission rather than just chasing speed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-19706\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/b-P19_0561_a3_rgb-1280x721.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"721\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Regarding PDK\u2019s performance, he added:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Well\u2026 the latest PDKs are truly amazing, shifting instantly like a game, so <strong>I can understand why some find it even more fun than a manual.<\/strong> I usually drive manual Porsches and think I fully appreciate their charm, but the appeal of PDK is hard to ignore.<br \/>\nI think it\u2019s better not to think of Porsche\u2019s PDK as just an \u201cautomatic.\u201d It\u2019s that enjoyable.<\/p>\n<p>I see\u2026 hearing him say that really makes me curious.
