Sorry about that. On the eagerly awaited test drive day, our family set out in the Panamera and Boxster (lol),<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15142\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_5270-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>and when we arrived at the observatory on time, there was an S660 in a color I\u2019d never seen before\u2026!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15143\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_5274-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was told this body color is a <strong>special color called Velvet Maroon Metallic<\/strong>. Until now, I\u2019d only seen S660s in white or yellow, so I didn\u2019t know there was such a mature brown color. It had a calm, chic vibe and was very beautiful.<\/p>\n<p>This S660 is the Bruno Leather Edition, completely stock. It has a 6-speed manual transmission, all-black aluminum wheels, and a Jazz Brown interior, which is very stylish. Since we have small kids at home, &#8220;<strong>only black interiors are practical<\/strong>,&#8221; so I envy being able to have such a fashionable interior.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15146\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_5279-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I couldn\u2019t help but tell the owner how jealous I was, and he said, &#8220;<strong>Oh, by the way, you wrote on your blog that your daughter threw up inside the Panamera right after delivery\u2026<\/strong>&#8221; Right, that kind of disaster is why only black interiors work for us (lol).<\/p>\n<p>Seeing the S660 up close for the first time, I noticed from behind it has a design somewhat like the Boxster Spyder. Very cool.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15147\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_5463-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Also, the owner came with his wife, and apparently &#8220;<strong>the husband loves manuals, so he got his wife to remove her AT license restriction, and now she\u2019s training to drive a manual<\/strong>.&#8221; I was so happy to find such a rare couple just like us here (lol).<\/p>\n<p>Since we had our two kids with us, my husband and I took turns test driving.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15148\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_5275-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>First, the roof was opened manually by folding the soft top and storing it in the front bonnet\u2019s soft top storage box. Removing the top is easy, but from what I\u2019ve read online, putting it back on can be a bit tricky.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15150\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_0391-800x533.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The owner said,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">\u201cThere is a storage box for the soft top, but since there\u2019s no trunk, you can\u2019t really load any luggage\u2026 When we go shopping, my wife ends up holding the bags on the passenger seat. Still, we\u2019ve gone on overnight trips and had a great time!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s wonderful to go on trips in an open sports car as a couple. For us, a hot spring trip for just the two of us might be a little further down the road.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/s660-testdrive\/2\/\"><strong>Next page \u2192 Finally, the Honda 660 Test Drive\u2026!<\/strong><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Test Driving the S660<\/h3>\n<p>Now, here are my impressions from the test drive. The S660\u2019s doors feel solid for a kei car, and the seat quality is very good.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15151\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_5280-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15145\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_0405-800x533.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sitting in the seat, I noticed it\u2019s lower than I expected, and there\u2019s no vertical seat adjustment,<\/strong> but as a woman, I think it would be easier to drive if the seat height could be raised a bit.<\/p>\n<p>The clutch is light, and the short shift lever makes gear changes easy. <strong>When I drove the Roadster, I also felt the clutch was light and shallow, making it easy to use,<\/strong> so compared to that, the 981 Boxster GTS\u2019s clutch feels heavy and deep. <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Some domestic sports cars apparently have heavy clutches too.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Once driving, I felt the &#8220;<strong>car feels light but solidly built<\/strong>.&#8221; It really feels like a seriously made sports car. Amazing that a kei car can be built so well.<\/p>\n<p>The clutch and shift operations are easy and not nerve-wracking for a first-time driver. <strong>It\u2019s truly a manual sports car that women can enjoy driving.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15152\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_5289-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The S660 feels like &#8220;<strong>driving one gear lower than when I drive the Boxster<\/strong>.&#8221; Hills I take in 3rd gear in the Boxster are tackled in 2nd gear here, and curves I take in 3rd gear in the Boxster are taken in 2nd gear in the S660. Also, with the top down and autumn breeze flowing as I corner, the small size and nimbleness made me feel like I was riding a motorcycle <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(\u2026though I\u2019ve never ridden one (-_-))<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>With this, you could easily enjoy narrow roads on motorcycle touring maps that typical sports cars can\u2019t handle due to size.<\/p>\n<p>However, because the car is low, the wind hits the top of my head directly, messing up my hair there, but overall, I felt the Boxster lets in more wind.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15153\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_5461-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The S660 is a <strong>casual open sports car perfect for quick local shopping trips.<\/strong> Driving the Boxster for a quick errand feels a bit over the top, but with this, even a few minutes\u2019 drive to the store is fun open-air sports driving. It\u2019s truly a perfect car for car-loving couples!<\/p>\n<p>Next, here are my husband\u2019s impressions.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/s660-testdrive\/3\/\"><strong>Next page \u2192 What Does My Husband Think of the Honda 660\u2026?!<\/strong><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">S660: Husband\u2019s Impressions<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">MR Driving Dynamics<\/h4>\n<p>Getting in and adjusting the seat. <strong>At about 177cm tall, I could get a proper driving position with no discomfort.<\/strong> The seat height can\u2019t be adjusted, but it was just right for my eye level.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15178\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_5279-1-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The clutch is light and shallow, and shifts are crisp. Starting the engine, it makes a typical kei car buzzing sound, but <strong>with the engine right behind you, the raw engine sound is quite nice.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Engaging the clutch and starting off, the clutch feels supple, not abrupt, <strong>seamlessly connecting from slipping to fully engaged.<\/strong> Shifting through 2nd and 3rd gears, we flowed through the Royu <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/%E8%8A%A6%E6%9C%89%E3%83%89%E3%83%A9%E3%82%A4%E3%83%96%E3%82%A6%E3%82%A7%E3%82%A4%E3%81%AE%E8%B5%B0%E3%82%8A%E6%96%B9%E3%81%A8%E6%B3%A8%E6%84%8F%E7%82%B9\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hoden S Curves<\/a>. This section is a good test of a car\u2019s character by how rhythmically and comfortably you can drive it.<\/p>\n<p>The initial turn-in felt a bit mild, but once in the corner, the midship layout really shows. <strong>The car pivots around its center point, rotating smoothly through the corner.<\/strong> This feeling is really close to the Boxster. The engine position truly defines the car\u2019s character.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the Roadster, which leans outward under load, here the initial corner entry has a slight floaty roll, but then it stays almost flat and powers through. <strong>This cornering posture is unique to mid-engine cars.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The tires are Yokohama ADVAN NEOVA AD08R stock, with plenty of grip. The car is very light, so I expected it might feel twitchy in a bad way, but it didn\u2019t. Rather, <strong>the body feels solid and stiff, with excellent tire contact and confident cornering.<\/strong> The light body lets you flow rhythmically through consecutive corners.<\/p>\n<p>In that sense, it feels like you\u2019re gliding through corners.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">S660 Engine<\/h4>\n<p>The 660cc turbo engine isn\u2019t fast in absolute terms, but <strong>if you keep it revving in a lower gear, it\u2019s quite lively.<\/strong> Still, I wish it had a bit more power. <strong>I\u2019d love to see a sibling model like an S1000.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The engine sound isn\u2019t loud, but with the engine right behind, you hear mechanical and exhaust notes that are rhythmically pleasant. I later learned you can lower the rear window, which apparently makes the sound even better.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15149\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_0404-800x533.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Shifting is very smooth. It\u2019s not as crisp as the S2000, but shifts are quick and precise. Even if you miss a bit on rev matching during downshifts, it snaps in cleanly with minimal shock. The Boxster requires more precise rev matching to avoid shift shock, so this is very easy to drive.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, it\u2019s small and easy to handle. On relatively narrow winding roads like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/%E8%8A%A6%E6%9C%89%E3%83%89%E3%83%A9%E3%82%A4%E3%83%96%E3%82%A6%E3%82%A7%E3%82%A4%E3%81%AE%E8%B5%B0%E3%82%8A%E6%96%B9%E3%81%A8%E6%B3%A8%E6%84%8F%E7%82%B9\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Royu Esses<\/a>, you don\u2019t have to worry about crossing the center line or hitting cat\u2019s eyes, so you can drive with peace of mind. It\u2019s mentally much less stressful.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">S660 Brakes: Impressive!<\/h4>\n<p>What impressed me most about the S660 was the brakes. They are very effective and controllable. <strong>Among all Japanese cars I\u2019ve driven, these are by far my favorite.<\/strong> There\u2019s no mushiness or excessive play, just a crisp feel. I later found out it has 260mm disc brakes front and rear, which explains the solid feedback.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The brake modulation is done by pedal force, not stroke length.<\/strong> I\u2019m not exaggerating when I say the feel is very close to Porsche brakes. Lightly resting your foot and gradually pressing gives smooth braking, making speed control before corners very easy and reassuring.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15179\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_0397-800x533.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I used to own a Kawasaki KLX125 motorcycle, which I really liked among my bike collection. It had a reliable but slightly underpowered engine that you could rev hard, and a light frame that was fun to throw around in any situation.<\/p>\n<p>The S660 shares that spirit.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">S660 Overall Impression<\/h3>\n<p>If you try to use this car for everything, you might struggle with cargo space, and long highway grand touring might be tiring due to the small engine.<\/p>\n<p>But <strong>if you have local winding roads or mountain passes nearby and can afford a second car, I highly recommend the S660.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15181\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_5460-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The first car I ever drove was a Honda, and I used to have a lot of fun driving my friends\u2019 Civics and CR-Xs. I\u2019ve always liked the brand. Recently, with the focus on kei and eco cars, and regular cars becoming more Americanized, <strong>some longtime Honda fans might lament the lack of appealing cars to buy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m one of those people.<\/p>\n<p>However, <strong>driving the S660 confirmed that the classic Honda spirit still lives on.<\/strong> Honda, please keep making cars that touch the hearts of longtime fans like me, without stopping or canceling them due to short-term business ups and downs.
