During that visit, he apparently said this to my husband:<\/p>\n\u201cEven though I bought the GTC4 Lusso T, the kids don\u2019t even glance at it.\u201d<\/strong> They don\u2019t say they want to ride in it, and it\u2019s not even a topic of conversation\u2014they just show zero interest. When we say, \u201cLet\u2019s go somewhere in the Lexus LX,\u201d<\/strong> they happily get in, saying it\u2019s comfortable, but when it comes to sports cars, it\u2019s like they don\u2019t even register them.<\/p>\nThat\u2019s what he said.<\/p>\n
Indeed, watching my nephews and nieces, they really don\u2019t seem interested in cars at all.<\/p>\n

From what I hear around me, quite a few people say, \u201cMy dad loved cars, so I ended up loving them too.\u201d<\/strong> In fact, my husband\u2019s father was a car enthusiast. My husband says,<\/p>\nAfter riding in my mom\u2019s kei car, when I got into my dad\u2019s Legend coupe, I was like, \u201cWhat is this difference?! Amazing!\u201d It was a real shock.<\/p>\n
So I think he was definitely influenced to some extent.<\/p>\n
That said, like my brother-in-law\u2019s family, there are plenty of cases where \u201cEven if the parents love cars, the kids just don\u2019t.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\nAs for my daughters, they can at least name the cars we have at home, like the GT3<\/strong> and Boxster<\/strong>, and they casually mention brands like BMW<\/strong> and Note Nismo<\/strong>, so compared to other girls their age, they probably know more car names.<\/p>\nBut does that mean they\u2019re super interested in cars? Not really. In fact, even when we take them to the Royu Driveway lookout, they\u2019re always more focused on the caf\u00e9\u2019s ice cream and juice than the cars.<\/p>\n
Well, that\u2019s to be expected.<\/p>\n

That said, my husband and I don\u2019t feel the need to force our kids to love cars. We just think, \u201cIt\u2019d be fun if they grow up to love cars and we can have all kinds of conversations about them, but if not, that\u2019s okay too.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\nMy Car-Loving Husband\u2019s Perspective<\/h3>\n
My husband talks about his own love of cars like this:<\/p>\n
My dad loved cars and preferred coupes. I think I was influenced by him. But when I was a kid, I saw a Porsche in a magazine and was blown away. I once said, \u201cDad, why don\u2019t you buy a Porsche?\u201d<\/strong> and he said, \u201cThere\u2019s no way I can afford a Porsche.\u201d<\/strong> That made me want a Porsche even more.<\/p>\nHe also said about our soon-to-be-born child:<\/p>\n
If a Porsche is just there at home from the moment the baby is born, the car might become so normal that the kid grows up not really interested in cars. I think many Porsche owners\u2019 families are like that. Forcing the kid to ride or go to Royu Driveway by saying, \u201cLet\u2019s go!\u201d<\/strong> might just make them dislike cars even more. So ironically, not pushing them to ride Porsches might actually make them more interested. I remember Shinsuke Shimada once said on TV, \u201cI didn\u2019t want my daughter to ride a motorcycle, so I bought one and forced her to practice. She hated it and naturally stopped riding.\u201d<\/strong> Kids often react the opposite way. I grew up with a dad who was crazy about baseball and forced me to practice and go to neighborhood softball games, so I still really dislike baseball now. That\u2019s why I plan not to talk much about sports cars or Porsches with our next child. Until they show interest, I\u2019ll avoid pushing it.<\/p>\nMakes sense\u2026<\/p>\n
For our third child, we\u2019ve already been playing the flat-six engine sounds of the GT3 and Boxster while still in the womb, so I think the prenatal education is going well (laughs).
