I\u2019m already nine months pregnant with a big belly, and lately I get carsick when riding in sporty cars <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(though I\u2019m fine when I\u2019m driving myself\u2026)<\/span>, so only my husband got to ride this time. That said, my husband wrote down his impressions from the test drive, so please have a look if you\u2019re interested.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>My brother, who had been waiting for his Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T to be delivered, finally got it and took it for a spin, so today I want to share his impressions.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">About My Car-Loving Brother<\/h3>\n<p>By the way, some readers might wonder who exactly this <strong>\u201cbrother\u201d<\/strong> appearing occasionally on this blog is, so let me briefly introduce him.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s five years younger than me, and <strong>looks and acts nothing like me\u2014so much so that most people wouldn\u2019t even guess we\u2019re siblings.<\/strong> Yet we do share some things in common: like me, he <strong>started his own business from scratch and now runs a broad human resources-related enterprise.<\/strong> And he\u2019s a <strong>born car enthusiast<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>However, our car tastes differ greatly. <strong>He loves Italian cars, supercars, and SUVs<\/strong>, which is quite the opposite of my preferences. Even now, I\u2019m not entirely sure what cars he currently owns, but from what I know of his past purchases, his collection includes:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Ferrari 488 Spider, Maserati Ghibli, Maserati GranTurismo <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(he bought that one twice, lol)<\/span>, AMG G63, Range Rover Sport, Lamborghini Hurac\u00e1n, Lexus LX570, Porsche Macan Turbo\u2026<\/p>\n<p>His appetite for cars shows no signs of slowing, and apparently <strong>a Ferrari F8 Tributo is also due to be delivered soon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>With such different tastes, we can never fully understand each other\u2019s car preferences. Still, <strong>when we meet, the conversation quickly turns from business to cars, and sometimes we end up talking about cars on the phone for an hour at night<\/strong>, so there\u2019s clearly some mutual understanding somewhere.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Test Driving the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T<\/h3>\n<p>So, my brother brought over his <strong>Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T<\/strong> right after delivery.<\/p>\n<p>I had seen the GTC4 Lusso a few times before, but this was my first close look. Since it\u2019s the Lusso T, it\u2019s the V8 model, packing a 3.9-liter turbocharged engine that squeezes out 610 hp and 760 Nm of torque.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-18759\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/E62BDD5A-D5B1-44AE-AFAB-4173C673D61F-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T engine\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The exterior is somewhere between a wagon and a shooting brake, with a very distinctive design. People around my age might say, \u201cHey, that looks like a BMW Z3 Coupe!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-18772\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/76D4856D-8A45-4827-880D-1DBA1115DF61-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-18768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/6AC77D9F-0D03-4305-ADA9-A7CDC467E93B-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Driving the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to my brother, <strong>he loves Ferrari and wanted a Ferrari that the whole family could ride in and use daily<\/strong>, so he chose this model. Indeed, it seats four comfortably and has plenty of cargo space. The ground clearance is also sufficient, so compared to a 488, it seems less nerve-wracking to drive.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-18770\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/4E4AAD04-1DE7-4467-9BA1-EAC2973E045A-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The interior features white leather with carefully selected blue stitching as an accent. The cockpit\u2019s quality is, as expected from Ferrari, very high, exuding luxury. <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Apparently, this white leather is extremely prone to dirt, so a cleaner is always at hand.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-18761\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/82647365-2DAD-43E4-A29C-CC9964F69C02-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T interior\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-18764\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/3A31AFDA-EC26-476A-A93B-8D3492F637F4-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T seats\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Since this is a 4-seater, I tried sitting in the back. With my 183 cm tall brother in the front seat adjusted comfortably, and me at 177 cm in the rear, there\u2019s about a fist\u2019s width of space. It\u2019s a <strong>rear seat that would be perfectly fine for drives around an hour long<\/strong>, and actually more comfortable than I expected.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-18757\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/4679E198-5577-4818-8676-06E1C8E01318-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>engine is surprisingly quiet for a Ferrari<\/strong>, and when you press the start button on the steering wheel, it just gives a light \u201cvroom!\u201d and starts smoothly.<\/p>\n<p>Once underway, the <strong>body feels incredibly rigid.<\/strong> Compared to Porsche, the sense of solidity at low speeds is even stronger.<\/p>\n<p>As for the ride quality, it\u2019s <strong>fairly firm.<\/strong> The body is so solid that it\u2019s not uncomfortable, but it does betray the usual image of a 4-seater coupe. It\u2019s definitely drivable around town, but remember this is a Ferrari, so <strong>it\u2019s still a sports car ride quality.<\/strong> From my experience, it\u2019s close to the feel of a California, but with an even more solid, firm impression.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, I thought it would ride like a Porsche Panamera, but it\u2019s about two steps firmer. It feels firmer than a typical 911, transmitting road surface irregularities quite noticeably. The tires were Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, so it\u2019s not the tires\u2019 fault.<\/p>\n<p>That said, since the car had just over 1,000 km on the clock, I want to reassess the ride quality after it\u2019s had more miles and the suspension has settled.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-18746\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/80934F79-917D-4DC2-9B20-6701246127D7-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\">Next page \u2192 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/ferrari-testdrive-202007\/2\/\">Testing the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T on Winding Roads!<\/a><\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Testing the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T on Winding Roads<\/h3>\n<p>First, we headed to Royu Driveway to test the handling. The initial steering response is much tamer than what I experienced in the 488, making it <strong>more relaxing to drive even when you want to take it easy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I haven\u2019t confirmed, but I suspect the lock-to-lock steering angle is larger than on the 488. In Comfort mode, there is some body roll, but the car holds firm where it needs to, making it just right for sporty cruising.<\/p>\n<p>At the Shakago corner, I switched to Sport mode. <strong>The GTC4 Lusso T doesn\u2019t have a Race mode; Sport is the sportiest setting.<\/strong> The gears drop a notch, and the suspension stiffens, but <strong>the ride quality hardly changes.<\/strong> I doubt most passengers would notice the switch if they weren\u2019t told. The difference is that subtle.<\/p>\n<p>However, when approaching corners, the difference becomes clear. <strong>The amount of body roll is drastically reduced.<\/strong> The car corners more flatly, making it noticeably easier to drive than in Comfort mode. I\u2019ve experienced various electronically controlled dampers, but this one\u2019s ride quality changes very little even in Sport mode. That\u2019s a big feature of this suspension.<\/p>\n<p>The brakes are, of course, carbon-ceramic. When I drove other Ferraris like the 488, I didn\u2019t notice this, but <strong>the GTC4 Lusso T\u2019s brakes felt to have very little free play.<\/strong> It took some getting used to, and I initially felt a bit jerky in city driving. Once accustomed, it\u2019s no problem, but the sharp bite of the carbon brakes might surprise some at first.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-18750\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/1D67C27C-86AB-4F40-A04A-696752761360-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The 610 hp engine\u2019s power is no joke. It\u2019s overwhelmingly fast when revved, and the body is so strong that <strong>there\u2019s no sense of speed or fear even at high speeds.<\/strong> However, unlike the 488\u2019s V8, which feels incredibly light and revs to the redline effortlessly, this engine seems to emphasize <strong>ease of handling in low to mid-range speeds<\/strong> more.<\/p>\n<p>In Sport mode, I tried the paddle shifters. Using the large fixed paddles behind the wheel, I shifted up from 2nd to 3rd and 4th gear. The car delivers a surprisingly strong shift shock to the driver, which is rare in modern cars. This isn\u2019t a sign of poor automatic transmission performance, but clearly an intentional effect.<\/p>\n<p>Each upshift causes a brief torque cut, then after a slight pause, the clutch engages abruptly with a roar. Passengers\u2019 heads jerk with the G-force, making it feel like <strong>\u201cHey, we just shifted gears!\u201d<\/strong>\u2014a theatrical touch.<\/p>\n<p>It reminded me of old-school manual cars with reinforced clutches driven by street racers, where the clutch is slammed and shifted quickly without regard for passenger comfort. <strong>This is a major difference from Porsche.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Porsche\u2019s PDK transmissions focus on shift speed and delivering torque smoothly to the next gear without interruption, shaving off tenths of a second. The GT3\u2019s PDK is a prime example. Ferrari, on the other hand, is an entertainer. While lap times matter, their priority is how to thrill the occupants, make them feel fast, and impress them.<\/p>\n<p>Once familiar with the car, we took the hill climb from Arima side, pushing the pace a bit. Approaching the narrow, steep Royu Esses and heading toward the Royu Tunnel, <strong>when pressing the throttle a bit harder entering the tunnel, the front end showed a slight side-to-side wiggle.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was like a horse refusing to obey, shaking its head left and right. I made small steering corrections to keep it straight.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-18769\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/4704297E-1434-412D-946E-E8F777C7312D-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Driving the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here, I felt what I call the <strong>\u201cFerrari-ness.\u201d<\/strong> I\u2019ve driven this road hundreds of times in many cars, but this kind of behavior was new. At first, it reminded me of the handling of an air-cooled Porsche RR, but it\u2019s different. <strong>It\u2019s more like a wild stallion\u2019s antics\u2014another Ferrari-style thrill ride.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My Ferrari-loving brother often says, <strong>\u201cThe slightly risky edge is part of Ferrari\u2019s charm.\u201d<\/strong> I think I caught a glimpse of that.<\/p>\n<p>Calming down, I analyzed the handling more closely. The initial steering is gentler than other Ferraris, but <strong>mid-corner it sometimes suddenly bites in sharply (oversteer tendency), while at other times it seems to push wide (understeer tendency).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I tried adjusting weight transfer and steering speed, but couldn\u2019t figure out exactly when each trait would show. One thing\u2019s clear: the challenge of taming these quirks is where Ferrari\u2019s true fun lies.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-18751\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/10DF63D9-F2E7-41B6-A819-6E1DA90A008C-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T exhaust\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is another big difference from Porsche. <strong>Porsche also offers the fun of taming an RR layout,<\/strong> but with Porsche, <strong>you can tame it by faithfully following driving fundamentals and learning the \u201ccorrect form\u201d in sports driving.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ferrari, however, requires more than mastering basics. You have to understand the car\u2019s personality and traits, and give it the right commands to truly tame it.<\/p>\n<p>That depth is part of why people are drawn to Ferrari.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-18760\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/B97F6DF4-76FF-460D-8548-2F9FEBBD83C3-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T instrument panel\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After spending time with the car, it became clear that even though both wear the prancing horse badge, the Ferrari from Maranello and the Porsche from Stuttgart are quite different. <strong>Ferrari and Porsche are often compared, but they aim for different goals and entertain in different ways.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I haven\u2019t confirmed this, but I get the impression that neither manufacturer really thinks about the other. Car makers often imitate or try to get closer to competitors\u2019 products, but these two seem to have no such intention. <strong>Both are manufacturers with a strong, unwavering philosophy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not about which is better or worse, but about what the driver seeks and aims for.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">My Personal Ratings<\/h4>\n<table
