We owned it for about three years, and it truly was an incredibly well-made car. It had a solid, sturdy feel with no corners cut anywhere. The driving was very stable, the brake pedal had excellent control and sufficient stopping power. It had torque from low revs and was easy to drive, with a <strong>powerful feel that you wouldn\u2019t expect from a 1200cc engine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"h5lYRlyLsc\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/good-bye-golf-thank-you-golf\/\">\u3055\u3088\u306a\u3089\u30b4\u30eb\u30d57\u3001\u305d\u3057\u3066\u3042\u308a\u304c\u3068\u3046 &#8211; \u7d043\u5e74\u9593\u6240\u6709\u3057\u3066\u306e\u7dcf\u8a55<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/good-bye-golf-thank-you-golf\/embed\/#?secret=h5lYRlyLsc\" data-secret=\"h5lYRlyLsc\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" title=\"&#8220;\u3055\u3088\u306a\u3089\u30b4\u30eb\u30d57\u3001\u305d\u3057\u3066\u3042\u308a\u304c\u3068\u3046 &#8211; \u7d043\u5e74\u9593\u6240\u6709\u3057\u3066\u306e\u7dcf\u8a55&#8221; &#8212; \u30dd\u30eb\u30b7\u30a7\u304c\u308f\u304c\u5bb6\u306b\u3084\u3063\u3066\u304d\u305f - \u30aa\u30fc\u30ca\u30fc\u30ba\u30d6\u30ed\u30b0\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>My husband and I still often say, &#8220;<strong>The Golf was really great, wasn\u2019t it?<\/strong>&#8221; It\u2019s easy to understand why &#8220;<strong>since the first Golf launched in 1974, a total of 35 million units have been produced over 45 years<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The reason we parted with our beloved Golf, which we both liked so much, was that around this spring I said, &#8220;<strong>I want to drive a manual car<\/strong>.&#8221; Even after three and a half years since removing my automatic-only license restriction, I was frustrated that I couldn\u2019t fully handle the Boxster GTS (MT), so I decided to buy a manual car myself. My husband said,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">If that\u2019s the case, swapping for a Golf is realistic, but since the Golf\u2019s inspection isn\u2019t due yet, let\u2019s take our time looking.<\/p>\n<p>But just then, we came across a used BMW 320i, and unexpectedly ended up saying goodbye to the Golf sooner than planned.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, before that, we visited a Volkswagen dealer, but they said, &#8220;<strong>The only manual model currently available is the UP<\/strong>.&#8221; They also recommended the Golf 7.5, but my husband said, &#8220;<strong>Well, the Golf 8 is coming out soon, so buying a 7.5 now feels a bit off\u2026<\/strong>&#8221; and that was where our connection with the Golf ended.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Golf 8 Debuts<\/h3>\n<p>Then, the other day while reading a web magazine at the hair salon, I found a feature on the Golf 8 in the December 2019 issue of Le Volant.<\/p>\n<div id=\"rinkerid15477\" class=\"yyi-rinker-contents class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15472\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/IMG_5723-800x600.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Just at a glance, you can see it keeps the <strong>classic Golf character but with a sportier, more refined design<\/strong>. The article said Volkswagen\u2019s design is sporty yet pursues beauty without sacrificing utility. The <strong>headlights are now LED matrix units, and the rear lamps have been redesigned<\/strong> for a sharper look.<\/p>\n<p>Somehow, it even feels a bit like an electric car.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-15473 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/20191023-20105675-carview-008-1-view.jpg\" alt=\"Golf 8\" width=\"772\" height=\"513\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By the way, this is the previous generation Golf 7.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-15480 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/IMG_2656-700x480.jpg\" alt=\"Golf 7\" width=\"700\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The door mirrors have also been redesigned to be more compact overall, and the rear logo now places the car name below the <strong>new Volkswagen brand emblem<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-15475 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/20191023-20105675-carview-016-1-view.jpg\" alt=\"Golf 8 Rear Emblem\" width=\"772\" height=\"513\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For comparison, the previous Golf had the GOLF lettering on the left side of the rear.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-15482 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/IMG_2658-800x600-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"Golf 7\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The body size is 4284mm long, 1789mm wide, and 1456mm tall. The previous model measured 4258mm long, 1790mm wide, and 1492mm tall, so the new one is slightly longer and lower overall.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-15476 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/20191023-20105675-carview-006-1-view.jpg\" alt=\"Golf 8\" width=\"772\" height=\"513\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Available powertrains include <strong>gasoline, diesel, CNG, mild hybrid, and plug-in hybrid<\/strong>, with power ranging from <strong>90PS to 300PS<\/strong>, totaling 11 variants. The activation phrase is &#8220;<strong>Hello, Volkswagen<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hmm\u2026 that\u2019s a bit long, haha.<\/p>\n<p>I wish it were as short as &#8220;Hey, Siri.&#8221; <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(By the way, Mercedes-Benz uses &#8220;Hi, Mercedes,&#8221; and BMW uses &#8220;OK, BMW.&#8221;)<\/span> I wonder if you can change the activation phrase.<\/p>\n<p>Driver assist systems like <strong>lane keep assist and front assist with city emergency braking<\/strong> come standard, while ACC (adaptive cruise control) is optional.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">My Husband\u2019s Thoughts on the Golf 8<\/h3>\n<p>When I asked my husband about the newly announced Golf 8, he said,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">We don\u2019t know the specs for Japan yet, but personally, I\u2019d like to try the <strong>\u2018eTSI\u2019 mild hybrid with a 48V battery<\/strong>. I basically prefer gasoline engines, so this system that assists the gasoline engine with a high-voltage battery interests me more than diesel or full hybrids.<br \/>\nAlso, when the Golf 7 came out, ACC was new and impressive. It was advanced for its time, and I think the Golf 7 was the first imported car to popularize ACC.
