Taycan Preview Event<\/h3>\n

The other day, my spouse and I attended the sneak preview(preview event)<\/span> of Porsche\u2019s first EV sports car, the Taycan<\/strong>. On this special occasion, I decided to bring along my rarely used Porsche Design bag, just for fun w<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

When we arrived at the venue, we spotted the Taycan logo and saw Mr. H, our contact person, waiting outside(he kindly waited for us outdoors)<\/span>. No doubt about it, this was the place!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Inside, the room was dimly lit, with the Taycan bathed in red light and draped under a veil at the center.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

As the start time approached, we took our seats. Soon, a countdown began and a Taycan introduction video was projected on the screen. After a few minutes, the veil was dramatically lifted, revealing the Taycan in all its glory!<\/p>\n

\"\"\"\"<\/p>\n

The smoke made it hard to see clearly\u2026 (-_-) w<\/span><\/p>\n

The displayed model was the Taycan Turbo<\/strong>, and since I had mostly seen Taycans in white before, the red color was a refreshing change. Just then, Alexander Quarsh, the Product Manager from Porsche Japan\u2019s Marketing Department (Alex), took the stage.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Alex gave a fluent 10-minute presentation about the Taycan, and afterward, we had the chance to get up close, take photos, and ask him detailed questions directly.<\/p>\n

We often chat with Alex on various occasions, but<\/p>\n

Since he wasn\u2019t at yesterday\u2019s preview, I wondered, “Did he not get the message!?<\/strong>” so I checked with the dealership. Then I heard he\u2019d be coming today, which was a relief (laughs).<\/p>\n

Feeling encouraged by this, we grilled Alex with questions and he kindly explained every detail thoroughly.<\/p>\n

I think we were probably the only couple asking such detailed questions at this Taycan sneak preview<\/strong> w(and right beside us, our sales rep Mr. H was also taking diligent notes and learning enthusiastically w)<\/span><\/p>\n

So, starting with this article, I\u2019d like to share what we learned over three installments.<\/p>\n

Taycan \/ Exterior<\/h3>\n

Design<\/h4>\n

The Taycan\u2019s design is described as “completely new yet somehow familiar<\/strong>.” It inherits traditional Porsche 911 design cues like pronounced fenders and the two lines on the hood, while seamlessly blending in entirely new elements such as the four-point LED headlights and the air curtains below them.<\/p>\n

The air curtains installed under the headlights are placed where turbulence tends to occur, allowing air to escape through vents and thereby reducing aerodynamic drag.<\/p>\n

According to Alex, “The Taycan has the lowest drag coefficient among Porsche models. The Taycan\u2019s Cd value(drag coefficient)<\/span> is 0.22, which is significantly lower than the 911\u2019s Cd of 0.29.<\/strong>” That\u2019s impressive.<\/p>\n

Until I saw the air curtains in person, I thought “the cutouts below the headlights were just a design feature<\/strong>,” but I learned they serve an important function.<\/p>\n

By the way, the Taycan Turbo on display was equipped with the Sports Design Package, which features air curtains that are thicker than the standard model\u2019s, giving a more dynamic impression.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Looking at the whole front, you can see the difference in the overall expression.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Viewed from the side, the Taycan\u2019s style is closer to the 911 than the Panamera<\/strong>. Naturally, since there\u2019s no engine under the hood, it\u2019s designed lower. Indeed, it has a lower overall height than the Panamera, giving it a sportier look<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

At the rear, without an engine, there\u2019s no need for an exhaust system or tailpipes<\/strong>, and a large diffuser is fitted to utilize airflow for aerodynamic purposes.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Also, the rear section featuring the \u201cPORSCHE\u201d logo is made of glass<\/strong>. Such fine details highlight the freshness of the design.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Body Size<\/h4>\n

My first impression when seeing the Taycan from the side was “It\u2019s much smaller than the Panamera<\/strong>,” but the Taycan Turbo\u2019s dimensions are 4,963mm long, 1,966mm wide, and 1,381mm tall<\/strong>. It\u2019s 10cm shorter in length than the Panamera but about 3cm wider.<\/p>\n

Its more compact side profile compared to the Panamera probably makes it look closer to the 911.<\/p>\n

Body Colors<\/h4>\n

Since I had only seen white and blue Taycans before, I assumed “there aren\u2019t many color options<\/strong>.” However, including new colors introduced with the Taycan, there are 17 body colors available.<\/p>\n

The displayed car\u2019s color was Carmine Red<\/strong>. When I exclaimed, “Wow, there are so many options!<\/strong>,” Alex said,<\/p>\n

“Yes, many visitors yesterday thought only white or black were available, but everyone was happy to learn there are so many colors to choose from.”<\/p>\n

My husband commented, “The Frozen Blue Metallic is really beautiful<\/strong>,” which was inspired by the Gulf Racing light blue.<\/p>\n

Charging Ports<\/h4>\n

The charging ports are located on both front sides. While gasoline cars usually have a fuel filler on just one side, having ports on both sides is a unique feature of electric vehicles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Next to the charging port, there\u2019s a protrusion, and when I asked “What\u2019s this bump for?<\/strong>,” I was told “It\u2019s a sensor that automatically opens the charging port when you wave your hand over it.<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

It opened and closed very smoothly, though at our house, it might become a favorite toy for the kids w<\/p>\n
