Panamera Love<\/h3>\n

If you\u2019ve been reading this blog for a while, you probably know that I love the Panamera.<\/p>\n

That said, after I learned to drive a manual, there was a time when, if I\u2019m honest, the Panamera felt a little too easy<\/strong>. It was so brilliantly engineered that it seemed to leave little room for the driver to get involved<\/strong>\u2026 It handled whatever I asked of it so effortlessly that I sometimes found it a bit less exciting.<\/p>\n

But after everything, I\u2019ve come back around to thinking, \u201cI really do love the Panamera after all.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The manual Boxster is an absolute blast, and driving it with the top down can move me to tears. The manual GT3 is thrilling, with that \u201cwolf in sheep\u2019s clothing\u201d character that sends a shiver down my spine. And air-cooled Porsches are fascinating, with so much depth to discover.<\/p>\n

Even so, these days I find myself thinking, more than ever, just how much I love the Panamera. (I\u2019m grateful to have the chance to drive so many different cars\u2014thank you.)<\/span><\/p>\n

What Makes the Panamera So Special?<\/h3>\n

When I ask myself why I love the Panamera so much, there are plenty of reasons, but the biggest one may be the sense of reassurance<\/strong> it gives me.<\/p>\n

I open the door, settle into the seat, and put my hands on the steering wheel\u2014and I immediately feel at ease. Once I\u2019m on the move, I think, \u201cAh\u2026 this is it. This is the feeling.\u201d I\u2019m happy, and I know that \u201cI can trust this car completely.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The Boxster and GT3, on the other hand, have manual transmissions. Gripping the wheel puts me on alert, and part of the fun is that there\u2019s nowhere for the driver to hide. The Panamera is the opposite: it lets me relax and feel secure.<\/p>\n

There are plenty of reasons the Panamera inspires such confidence<\/strong>\u2014its solid, substantial feel and precise handling, for starters. But I think the biggest reason is everything I\u2019ve experienced behind the wheel of the Panamera<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I drove on the highway for the first time on my own, covering around 1,000 km round trip from home to Mount Fuji. I experienced full-throttle acceleration and full-force braking at a Porsche driving school, drove a mountain road in sleet, and took to a racetrack for the first time\u2026<\/p>\n

I experienced all of it in the Panamera, and it opened the door to so many firsts for me.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Even after 1,000 km round trip, I wasn\u2019t tired. The car felt planted and stable on the highway. I\u2019d think, \u201cI want to go there,\u201d and before I knew it, I was there, thanks to its acceleration. And when I went from full throttle to hard braking in heavy rain, I felt that huge car come to a remarkably sure-footed stop.<\/p>\n

One spring, an unexpected snowfall turned a mountain road slushy. My husband was driving ahead in the Boxster, saying, \u201cIt\u2019s slipping\u2014this is scary.<\/strong>\u201d But the all-wheel-drive Panamera Turbo didn\u2019t flinch. It felt supremely stable, and I wasn\u2019t scared at all.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

And when I accelerated down the main straight at Fuji Speedway, I could feel the seemingly endless power, as if the car were saying it still had so much more to give.<\/p>\n

With every one of these experiences, I came to trust the Panamera\u2019s performance and the way it drove more and more.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I also learned that this sense of confidence is essential to enjoying a car\u2019s performance.<\/strong> When you know how your car will respond in different situations\u2014and where its limits are\u2014you can enjoy driving it without holding back.<\/p>\n

You can\u2019t fully enjoy a car\u2019s performance unless you trust it completely. I realized all over again that driving the Panamera is fun because I trust it 100%.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Panamera and My Wife<\/h3>\n

The title of this article says, \u201cIf you want your wife to love cars, buy a Porsche Panamera.<\/strong>\u201d But I imagine many readers will think:<\/p>\n

Why not a 911, Cayman, or Boxster? In fact, wouldn\u2019t one of those models give you a better feel for the very essence of Porsche as a sports-car maker?<\/p>\n

That may well be true. But if you want your wife, who isn\u2019t interested in cars, to think, \u201cCars are pretty great<\/strong>,\u201d I\u2019d absolutely recommend the Panamera.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s because the Panamera is exceptionally comfortable to ride in.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not that the 911, Boxster, and Cayman are uncomfortable. But their suspensions are firm, and they tend to transmit bumps and imperfections in the road. Their sports-car performance, handling, braking, acceleration, and stability are all superb, of course\u2014but none of that is likely to make an impression on someone who isn\u2019t interested in cars.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What they\u2019re most likely to notice is how comfortable the ride feels.<\/strong> The Panamera\u2019s ride is firmer than a Mercedes-Benz or Lexus, but it\u2019s still impressively smooth.<\/p>\n

I was amazed by how comfortable the Panamera was the first time I rode in one. And when I talk to readers of this blog and other Panamera owners, I often hear things like:<\/p>\n

\u201cMy wife is amazed by how comfortable the Panamera is,\u201d or \u201cShe says it\u2019s the most comfortable car she\u2019s ever ridden in.\u201d<\/p>\n

If your first Porsche leaves you thinking, \u201cPorsches are great<\/strong>,\u201d you might find yourself taking the whole family on drives or hot-spring trips in the Panamera. You can load it up for a shopping trip, too, and it looks fantastic\u2026<\/p>\n

When your family has a positive impression of Porsche, your wife may be more willing than ever to listen when you talk about cars. It might even be the start of her becoming a car enthusiast.<\/p>\n

I Want to Keep Driving the Panamera<\/h3>\n

Looking back, the Panamera was what first sparked my interest in Porsche, even though I wasn\u2019t a car enthusiast at the time. I went to the dealership and, somewhat reluctantly, agreed to take a Panamera for a test drive. The moment I did, I was blown away: \u201cWhat is this car?!<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

From there, I started dreaming of owning a Panamera myself. I launched this blog, learned to drive a manual, and eventually arrived at where I am today.<\/p>\n

It all started with the Panamera.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was the first Porsche I ever drove and the Porsche I\u2019ve owned the longest. It\u2019s been my companion through so many firsts, and it\u2019s my favorite partner on the road.<\/p>\n

I think that\u2019s why I feel at ease just by sitting in the driver\u2019s seat.<\/p>\n

Today, I went on what will probably be my last medium-distance drive of the year in the Panamera (about 150 km round trip, mostly on the highway)<\/span>, and as I drove, I found myself thinking:<\/p>\n

People have been talking about switching to a Taycan or a Continental GT, but I\u2019d love to keep driving this Panamera next year\u2014and the year after that\u2026<\/p>\n

That\u2019s what I say, anyway. But I\u2019m easily swayed, so the moment I test-drive a Taycan or Continental GT, I\u2019ll probably be pleading with my husband, \u201cWow, this is amazing!
