This time, I\u2019d like to share the final part of the series.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Taycan \/ Motor<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Performance<\/h4>\n<p>The Taycan is <strong>undeniably a sports car, even though it\u2019s an EV.<\/strong> It boasts an astonishing 0-100 km\/h acceleration in 2.8 seconds, and even after more than 20 consecutive 0-200 km\/h runs, the times barely drop. The Taycan Turbo S delivers a maximum output of 761 PS and peak torque of 1050 Nm.<\/p>\n<p>Though it was just in a game, when I recently drove the Taycan on PS4\u2019s \u201cGran Turismo SPORT,\u201d I experienced the <strong>instant full-throttle acceleration of a gearless EV<\/strong> and thought, \u201cWow, that\u2019s really fast!\u201d By the way, the top speed of the Taycan Turbo S is 260 km\/h.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Not only does it excel in straight-line acceleration, but as expected from Porsche, the Taycan also boasts outstanding steering performance.<\/strong> Because the battery is installed low in the chassis, <strong>its center of gravity is even lower than that of the 911.<\/strong> Adding PDCC and rear-axle steering makes it even more impressive.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16256\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_0069-1-1280x854.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"854\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Charging<\/h4>\n<p>The Taycan 4S has an incredible range of 463 km. <strong>This long range means you can drive with peace of mind every day.<\/strong> The distance from our home in Hyogo Prefecture to Fuji Speedway is about 450 km one way, so if you drive super smoothly without using the air conditioning at all, you might just make it without charging! <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Well, probably not, lol)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>At 200W, it\u2019s possible to charge up to about two-thirds overnight. That\u2019s quite a long time for charging at this level. My husband asked Alex, \u201cOur home parking has 100V power\u2014would charging be difficult with that?\u201d and Alex replied:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well\">\u201cIt\u2019s not impossible, but it will take longer. However, if you\u2019re not driving daily for commuting, it shouldn\u2019t be a problem. Energy is also recovered during braking while driving. Still, it\u2019s definitely more convenient to have faster charging at home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So if we buy a Taycan, it might be best to upgrade our home parking to 200V.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the Taycan can also use public charging stations, but <strong>Porsche is rolling out rapid chargers developed in-house at authorized Porsche dealers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Using these, <strong>you can charge enough for 100 km of driving in just 10 minutes.<\/strong> So you could quickly top up while popping into the dealership. I imagine as the Macan and Cayenne also go electric in the future, these rapid chargers will become common at dealers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16258\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_6448-1280x960.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Motor Sound<\/h4>\n<p>With the optional Porsche Electric Sport Sound<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(similar to Porsche\u2019s usual sports exhaust sound)<\/span>, you can enjoy a more dynamic motor sound. According to Alex, <strong>this motor sound is not fake.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>They actually record the real motor sound when driving the Taycan, extract the high-frequency components, and play them through the speakers. Whether you can hear the motor sound directly proportional to how much you press the accelerator <strong>can only be confirmed by driving it<\/strong>, but it\u2019s impressive that it\u2019s not artificial.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Brakes<\/h4>\n<p>One particularly interesting feature of the Taycan is its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/porsche-taycan-reserve\/\">brakes<\/a>. Unlike regenerative braking, <strong>you must press the brake pedal for the brakes to engage\u2014it\u2019s not a one-pedal system<\/strong>, which is very Porsche-like. According to Alex:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well\">The Taycan offers \u201cON, OFF, and AUTO\u201d brake modes. In ON mode, releasing the accelerator pedal causes slight deceleration, but not as much as engine braking. OFF mode lets you drive with a normal feel. AUTO mode uses a front camera to monitor the distance to the car ahead and adjusts braking accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the Taycan Turbo S comes standard with PCCB brakes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16244\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_0057-1280x854.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"854\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">\u2463 Taycan Pricing \/ Other Details<\/h3>\n<p>Currently, three models have been announced: <strong>Taycan 4S, Taycan Turbo, and Taycan Turbo S.<\/strong> Whether a base model will be released in the future is still unclear.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Price<\/h4>\n<p>The Japanese release price is not yet decided, so the Japanese configurator is not available. <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Dealerships reportedly have configurators available)<\/span> Since the Taycan sits between the Panamera and Cayenne, the price range is expected to be around there.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16245\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_0053-1280x854.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"854\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When I asked Alex about recommended models and options, he said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well\">\u201cI\u2019d want to add PDCC to the 4S. I\u2019d like both PDCC and rear-axle steering, but if I had to choose one, it\u2019d be PDCC. With PDCC, there\u2019s no roll, the ride is smooth, and when you accelerate, it feels like a spaceship\u2014there are no words to describe it (laughs). But of course, the Turbo and Turbo S are also fantastic, so I recommend those too!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thank you, Alex, for answering such a tough question\u2026!<\/p>\n<p>Still, the base model 4S will probably cost a fair amount, and the Turbo might be around 20 million yen. My husband said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">When I used an overseas configurator recently, the options alone added up to about 3 million yen. As I kept adding things I wanted, I thought, \u201cWait, if I do this, the Turbo might be better\u2026\u201d and then, \u201cIf I\u2019m going to add options to the Turbo, I might as well just go for the Turbo S!\u201d That\u2019s how it ended up, lol.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Key \/ Entry<\/h4>\n<p>For regular Porsche models<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(with Porsche Entry &#038; Drive System option)<\/span>:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well\">\u2460 Carry the key and grab the door handle to unlock the door.<br \/>\n\u2461 Get in, insert and turn the ignition key, or for models without a key slot, turn the key part to start the engine.<br \/>\n\u2462 Shift into D, release the P lever <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(or P releases automatically)<\/span>, and start driving.<\/p>\n<p>But with the Taycan, starting to drive is even simpler and quicker. According to Alex:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well\">\u2460 When you approach the car within 6 meters holding the key, the Taycan sets up. At 2 meters, the door handles automatically pop out.<br \/>\n\u2461 Open the door and press the start button <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(though it actually starts without pressing)<\/span>, and you\u2019re ready to go immediately.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s pretty smart! Since it feels so futuristic, I wondered if the Taycan key would look futuristic too, but when I saw it\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16246\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_6415-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">It looks totally normal (\uff9f\u2200\uff9f)!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I couldn\u2019t help but say, \u201cIt\u2019s so normal!\u201d which was a bit rude, but I was happy to see Porsche\u2019s traditional ignition key still there.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Safety Features<\/h4>\n<p>The Taycan Turbo on display comes standard with ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control). The ACC camera is the left one of the two cameras on the front bumper. Incidentally, <strong>the new 911\u2019s \u201cWet Mode\u201d is not available on the Taycan.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Delivery Timing<\/h4>\n<p>It\u2019s not clear yet, but reservations are being accepted. Some early production slots might see deliveries by the end of next year. So it\u2019s safer to expect delivery the year after next.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Maintenance<\/h4>\n<p>I hadn\u2019t realized this until Alex mentioned it:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well\">Since the Taycan isn\u2019t a gasoline engine car, <strong>there\u2019s no need for break-in driving or oil changes<\/strong> (laughs). You can drive it hard from the day it\u2019s delivered. Though I imagine the after-sales service department might have some challenges\u2026 sorry about that.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s quite a strange feeling that no break-in or oil changes are needed.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Taycan, Final Thoughts<\/h3>\n<p>After asking all my questions, Alex passionately spoke about the Taycan:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well\">Other manufacturers often build EVs by \u201cfitting a motor into this space\u201d based on existing models, but Porsche designed and developed the Taycan completely from scratch. They made it without compromise, putting their soul and pride as a sports car maker into it.<br \/>\nThat\u2019s why we can confidently say, <strong>the Taycan is undeniably a sports car, even though it\u2019s an EV.<\/strong><br \/>\nAlso, the Taycan\u2019s design is truly amazing. When I recently drove it through a town in Spain, people stopped and stared, taking photos and saying, \u201cWhat\u2019s that car?!\u201d I was really surprised by all the attention.<br \/>\nWhen I drove the same route in a 911 last year, nobody even looked (laughs).<br \/>\nSo I think in Japan, too, the Taycan will definitely turn heads.
