When I replied, \u201cNo, it\u2019s fun,\u201d she said, \u201cYou\u2019ve always been like this, but you\u2019re totally a guy in personality\u2026<\/strong>\u201d Is enjoying driving a manual car something only men do? lol<\/p>\n But this casual remark from my mother was also very thought-provoking.<\/p>\n You see, I had been thinking for a while about organizing and writing about \u201cWhat my husband did to turn a wife who wasn\u2019t interested in cars into a car lover<\/strong>,\u201d but as I dug deeper, I came to think that \u201cmore important than what the husband did to the wife is what kind of person the wife is in the first place<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n I never thought my personality was particularly unusual, but looking back at my past behavior patterns, I feel \u201cindeed, I\u2019m quite different from what society generally expects of women<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n I grew up with one sibling, an older brother, and as a child, I mostly read the Shonen Jump manga he bought and wasn\u2019t very interested in girls\u2019 manga.<\/p>\n While all my university friends landed jobs at big companies, I was the only one who joined a startup. (Well, actually, I failed all the big companies\u2019 exams, so that was the only offer I got lol)<\/span> At the company I joined, all the female classmates were assigned to office work, but I alone was told, \u201cYou\u2019re not suited for office work, so sales is your only option<\/strong>,\u201d and was assigned to sales. Since I was doing sales, I worked hard to be number one\u2014and I achieved it.<\/p>\n Also, I rarely gathered with female friends in groups to chat for hours at cafes. I used to get invited, but after declining repeatedly, no one invited me anymore\u2026 (-_-) (I prefer one-on-one, deep conversations.)<\/span><\/p>\n I\u2019m clueless about brands, gourmet food, sweets, and other things women are usually interested in\u2014I have almost no knowledge about those. For example, on my first date with my husband, when he asked, \u201cWhere do you want to go for lunch?<\/strong>\u201d I answered, \u201cKappa Sushi<\/strong>,\u201d which made him burst out laughing.<\/p>\n Then, at 27, I started my own company, experienced childbirth and parenting, launched this Porsche blog about two and a half years ago, and now I drive a manual car every day.<\/p>\n Looking back like this, I\u2019m definitely not an ordinary woman\u2026 (-_-)<\/p>\n I\u2019ve always been restless and liked trying new things.<\/p>\n Starting my company at 27 was largely because the moment I saw the future clearly\u2014\u201cIn three years, it\u2019ll be like this, and in ten years, like that<\/strong>\u201d\u2014it became boring. I wanted to be in a world where the future was uncertain and exciting.<\/p>\n I also have a strong desire to do things others aren\u2019t doing rather than what everyone else is doing. But these are not about \u201cgender differences<\/strong>\u201d but about personality.<\/p>\n However, when I met my husband, I had zero interest in cars and showed no interest no matter what he talked about. At that time, it was because \u201cI had no room in my life for cars<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n I had just started my company and was desperately trying to get it off the ground.<\/p>\n After my children were born, parenting became busy, and there was even less room for cars. Even when my husband talked about cars, I would say, \u201cNot again with the car talk (-_-)<\/strong>\u201d and didn\u2019t listen at all.<\/p>\n What changed me was \u201chaving more mental space than before<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cstarting the Porsche blog<\/strong>.\u201d My kids grew a bit older, and although it\u2019s still tough, I felt mentally freer than before.<\/p>\n That created a gap in my life where cars could fit.<\/p>\n Also, as the blog grew well, I decided to organize and wrap up the work I had been doing and shift my focus to the Porsche blog. This made me think, \u201cIf I\u2019m going to write a blog, I need to know more about cars<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cI should drive and test things for articles<\/strong>,\u201d which deepened my interest in cars.<\/p>\n Before I knew it, I had become a car lover.<\/p>\n So rather than \u201cwhat my husband did to me<\/strong>,\u201d I think it\u2019s more that I was naturally curious, liked new things, wanted to do things others weren\u2019t doing, and as work and parenting settled down, I gained mental space\u2014and cars just perfectly clicked with me.<\/p>\n That said, there\u2019s no doubt I was influenced by my husband\u2019s actions and words, and if I list what I think was \u201creally significant<\/strong>,\u201d it would be:<\/p>\n \u2460 He tried to create mental space for me My husband takes our daughter to kindergarten every morning before going to work, which is a huge help. When I was overwhelmed with housework and parenting and constantly irritated, he suggested things like, \u201cShall we hire a cleaning service?<\/strong>\u201d or \u201cShould we buy a robot vacuum?<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n If it had been a situation where \u201che\u2019s free but the wife is always overwhelmed,\u201d I don\u2019t think things would be like they are now.<\/p>\n And then, his unwavering passion and overwhelming knowledge about cars.<\/strong> From when I had zero interest in cars until now, his passion has never wavered\u2014in fact, it\u2019s only gotten stronger lol. I think what he said back then hasn\u2019t really changed.<\/p>\n Also, he answers any question I have about cars<\/strong>, so since I started the blog, I\u2019ve been asking him all sorts of questions every day, and through those exchanges, I\u2019ve come to understand the depth of cars.<\/p>\n If he didn\u2019t have that level of knowledge, I probably wouldn\u2019t have thought, \u201cI want to know more about cars<\/strong>\u201d or \u201cI want to get better at driving<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n So, it\u2019s hard to say simply \u201cthis is what a husband should do to make his wife a car lover,\u201d because it really depends on the types of husband and wife, and every couple\u2019s answer is different.
