My husband went first, and after Sugawara-san watched him drive, Sugawara-san took the wheel and gave advice as he drove.<\/p>\n<p>My husband was nervous but driving, and Sugawara-san said, &#8220;<strong>Your racing line is pretty good\u2014you&#8217;re genuinely skilled.<\/strong>&#8221; which seemed to make him quite happy (lol).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16627\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_6584-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After that, Sugawara-san took over driving and shared various tips on how to drive on the circuit in GT, which I\u2019d like to share here.  <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Circuit Driving Tips from GT<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Brake firmly on tight corners<\/h4>\n<p>For sharp corners like hairpins, it\u2019s important to brake firmly and reduce speed sufficiently.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">Even though you have some brake left, your speed isn\u2019t dropping enough, so you spend too much time turning the wheel. <strong>Slow down properly, quickly change the car\u2019s direction,<\/strong> and then you can step on the accelerator aiming for the corner exit. This means your cornering speed drops a bit, but you more than make up for it on the exit with acceleration, resulting in faster lap times.<br \/>\nYou might think, &#8220;<strong>Should I brake earlier?<\/strong>&#8221; but that\u2019s not necessary. It\u2019s okay to brake later. The key isn\u2019t the braking point but <strong>to brake firmly until your speed drops.<\/strong> This will make a big difference.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16633\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_6596-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/>  <\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Rev the gears to the limit<\/h4>\n<p>I thought the timing to shift gears in GTSport was when the central light-blue gauge starts flashing, but you can actually push it further.  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16636\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_6635-1-1280x720.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/>  <\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">In a real car, you\u2019d worry about damaging it, but in GT, there\u2019s no such risk (laughs). You can push it well beyond the flashing light. <strong>It\u2019s faster to rev almost to the redline.<\/strong><br \/>\nOf course, fuel consumption worsens, but when practicing, you don\u2019t need to worry about that.<br \/>\nFor this car, for example, you can remember approximate speeds like &#8220;<strong>1st gear can be pushed to 120 km\/h<\/strong>,&#8221; &#8220;<strong>2nd gear to about 160 km\/h, 3rd gear to about 200 km\/h<\/strong>,&#8221; and try to push to those speeds. This helps you build speed and drive faster. It\u2019s a GT-specific technique since it\u2019s impossible in a real car (laughs).<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Eliminate unnecessary information<\/h4>\n<p>In GT, your past best lap appears as a semi-transparent ghost, which I often find &#8220;<strong>annoying!<\/strong>&#8221; Some say it motivates them to beat the ghost, but Sugawara-san turns it off because <strong>the ghost obscures the racing line.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">I always turn it off. Since the line is hidden, you can\u2019t take the line you want. Also, I turn off the red &#8220;BRAKE!!!&#8221; warning in the center. Everyone\u2019s different, but I try to drive without being distracted by unnecessary info.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/gt-player-tought-us\/2\/\">Next page \u2192 My husband\u2019s lap time improved by \u25cb seconds! What was Sugawara-san\u2019s Suzuka time\u2026?<\/a><\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><!--nextpage-->  <\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Use throttle to generally increase speed<\/h4>\n<p>Increasing overall speed improves lap times, but with the 911 RSR, pressing the accelerator too much tends to cause understeer.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">You need to press the accelerator only after the car\u2019s direction has changed properly; otherwise, you get understeer immediately. But if you slow down too much, that\u2019s also bad.<br \/>\nSo, <strong>try to drive by gently pressing the accelerator enough to neither slow down too much nor accelerate hard,<\/strong> which helps maintain speed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16634\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_6629-1280x960.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/>  <\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Throttle and brake are not just on or off<\/h4>\n<p>It\u2019s often said that accelerator and brake aren\u2019t just &#8220;0 or 100.&#8221; According to Sugawara-san:  <\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">For the accelerator, think of at least five levels: &#8220;0, 25, 50, 75, 100,&#8221; and for the brake, &#8220;0, 50, 100.&#8221; Full throttle tends to cause understeer, so focus on rolling on the throttle. It\u2019s important to press just enough to avoid understeer.<br \/>\nFor some corners, gently applying about half brake while gradually slowing down is also important. Slamming the brakes causes too much speed loss, so for corners where you don\u2019t need to slow down that much, gently braking is key.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16637\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_6615-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/>  <\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Pause briefly on corner exits<\/h4>\n<p>Instead of rushing to accelerate out of a corner, it\u2019s important to pause briefly.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">If you rush on the throttle at corner exit, you get understeer and might twist the steering wheel awkwardly. So, after turning the corner and once the car\u2019s direction has changed, pause briefly before accelerating. <strong>That pause lets you build speed quickly.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Got it!!  <\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Confirm and reproduce your best driving<\/h4>\n<p>Instead of driving frantically to get a fast time, relax and drive with some margin, then identify &#8220;<strong>what didn\u2019t work well<\/strong>&#8221; and gradually fix it on the next lap. This process of finding your best driving is important.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">Don\u2019t drive desperately; embed your best driving into your body and see if you can reproduce it repeatedly. To do this, you need to drive calmly with some margin and make subtle adjustments each lap. I used to push too hard, crash at the first corner, retry, and couldn\u2019t even complete a lap properly. So, I think it\u2019s best not to try too hard or get too desperate (laughs).<\/p>\n<p>Sugawara-san is now a champion, but it\u2019s clear he built his skills through steady effort.  <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">GTSport is deep<\/h3>\n<p>My husband\u2019s best Suzuka time in the 911 RSR was 2:05.150 initially, but after Sugawara-san\u2019s advice, it improved to 2:03.518\u2014almost two seconds faster. It\u2019s amazing how much a few tips from a top player can improve your time.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16638\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_6604-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By the way, when Sugawara-san casually said, &#8220;I\u2019ll try driving properly now,&#8221; his time was 1:58 (lol).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16639\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_6611-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Whoa (\uff9f\u0434\uff9f)!<\/p>\n<p>To be that fast while driving so casually is incredible. I wonder how fast he\u2019d be if he drove seriously. He also drove at Fuji Speedway and N\u00fcrburgring Nordschleife, and was unbelievably fast <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(N\u00fcrburgring Nordschleife in a Porsche 962 was 5 minutes 30 seconds)<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>My husband used to say, &#8220;<strong>I thought fast drivers must be using different cars,<\/strong>&#8221; but after seeing Sugawara-san\u2019s driving, he realized that\u2019s not the case (laughs). Also, the world\u2019s top players aren\u2019t just skilled and knowledgeable\u2014they\u2019re wonderful people.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Despite being only 22, Sugawara-san is mature and an outstanding person.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By the way, Rico-san also drove. She\u2019s been practicing GTSport with Sugawara-san\u2019s coaching and is faster than my husband, but this time the wheel setup didn\u2019t suit her, so she couldn\u2019t show her true skill\u2026 Next time, we\u2019ll definitely have a match (laughs)!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16640\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_6630-1280x960.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Thank you very much, Sugawara-san and Rico Otsuka!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Happy New Year!
