To make up for it, he took some time off at the end of the year and brought the GT3 to Suzuka Circuit for a spin. This time, I\u2019d like to share his impressions, including comparisons with the Boxster GTS.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Heading_to_Suzuka_Circuit_with_the_GT3\"><\/span>Heading to Suzuka Circuit with the GT3<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Helmet and driving gloves ready, he left home early in the morning and headed to Suzuka Circuit.<\/p>\n<p>The high-speed stability remains outstanding as ever. On the smooth straights of the Shin-Meishin Expressway, the car sticks to the asphalt like glue. The vertical pitching is minimal, and compared to the Boxster GTS, the GT3 feels more firmly planted to the ground, giving a stronger sense of stability.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This time, he ran two 30-minute sessions, both mixed classes of high-level and beginner drivers.<\/strong> With 48 cars on track, it wasn\u2019t possible to chase lap times, so he focused on carefully observing the GT3\u2019s behavior on the circuit.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16701\" style=\"font-size: 14px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_2995-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"911gt3 in Suzuka\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"First_familiarization_laps\"><\/span>First, familiarization laps<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Honestly, the GT3 is a handful on public roads. It\u2019s incredibly fast and has extraordinary cornering ability. There are very few places in Japan where you can fully enjoy an engine that revs up to 9000rpm. So usually, you have to hold back the GT3\u2019s urge to run wild, taming this beast like a wild animal.<\/p>\n<p>But this time was different. It was the circuit. <strong>And not just any circuit, but the world-renowned Suzuka Circuit International Racing Course.<\/strong> Naturally, there are no speed limits, so you can really let the GT3 loose.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16600\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/IMG_2667-1280x960.jpg\" alt=\"Suzuka Circuit paddock\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Straight from the pits, he started with familiarization laps, warming up the tires and checking the handling and engine feel.<\/p>\n<p>Passing the first and second corners slowly, he entered the S-curves. The first impression here was \u201c<strong>easy to drive<\/strong>.\u201d The roll is very minimal, and the car turns exactly as intended. <strong>This responsiveness is on a whole different level compared to the Boxster GTS.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Flowing from the banked corner to Dunlop Corner, the grip on the road is phenomenal. After passing Degner, he entered the hairpin. The turn-in response here was amazing. Although he was driving lightly during familiarization laps, the feeling that the car moves effortlessly was refreshing.<\/p>\n<p>From Spoon Curve, through the back straight and 130R to the chicane, he thought, \u201c<strong>Wasn\u2019t I struggling more with the Boxster here?<\/strong>\u201d as he breezed through with ease.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Unleash_the_GT3\"><\/span>Unleash the GT3!<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>With the grandstand in sight, shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear, he whipped the GT3 into full acceleration, releasing all the frustration built up so far!<\/p>\n<p>The speed quickly hit 200 km\/h, and even as the rev counter passed 7000 and 8000 rpm, the power showed no sign of fading. Writing \u201cno sign of fading\u201d may sound simple, but <strong>the strength and rapid rise in revs at such high RPMs was unlike anything experienced before.<\/strong> In fact, the needle accelerated even more as it climbed toward 9000 rpm.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16705\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_2976-1280x720.jpg\" alt=\"Porsche 911 GT3 running at Suzuka Circuit\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16712\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMB_hMRlPS.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Keeping the accelerator pressed, he disengaged the clutch and threw the shift into 4th gear. <strong>The GT3\u2019s manual transmission automatically controls the revs and connects gears seamlessly,<\/strong> minimizing speed loss. Still, <strong>the strong acceleration G tends to cause the foot to ease off the throttle unintentionally.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He realized he needs to practice shifting while maintaining throttle pressure to build better habits.<\/p>\n<p>Approaching around 230, 240, and nearly 250 km\/h, he eased off the throttle and braked. This was his first time using the PCCB brakes on the circuit, so he wasn\u2019t sure how much pedal pressure was needed for effective stopping.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trying about 70-80% of expected pedal force, the car slowed more than anticipated, leaving some margin.<\/strong> Amazed, he thought, \u201c<strong>PCCB is incredible!!<\/strong>\u201d and cleared the first and second corners before entering the S-curves.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16708\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_2989-1280x720.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Taking the S-curves flat out in 3rd gear, the GT3 cleared them effortlessly. <strong>The strong lateral G forced him to brace with his left foot and stabilize his neck to avoid being thrown around,<\/strong> and this 40-something driver fought hard to hold on to the GT3. His left hip started screaming, and his leg cramped up (sweat).<\/p>\n<p>This was a stark reminder of his lack of regular exercise and training.<\/p>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/gt3-suzuka-circuit-2019\/2\/\">Next page \u2192 Racing through 130R in the GT3! Final thoughts on GT3 at Suzuka!<\/a><\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p><strong>But the GT3\u2019s stability is amazing.<\/strong> It\u2019s so stable and smooth that when he thought, \u201c<strong>Maybe I can push a bit more?<\/strong>\u201d and pressed the throttle harder mid-corner, the tires nearly lost grip, the car\u2019s behavior slightly unsettled, and the PSM stepped in to control it. \u201c<strong>So this is the level of intervention with PSM ON,<\/strong>\u201d he thought, exploring the limits as he headed from Dunlop Corner to Degner.<\/p>\n<p>Passing under the overpass, he floored it in 2nd gear. Listening to the sublime flat-six NA sound at 9000 rpm, he approached the hairpin.<\/p>\n<p>Surprisingly, he could get on the inside line easily at the hairpin. <strong>When driving the Boxster, it was tougher, and a bit of overspeed would cause the car to drift wide,<\/strong> but the GT3 responds sharply to steering inputs and cuts in firmly.<\/p>\n<p>Compared to the Boxster, the GT3 shows much less understeer and <strong>leans more toward oversteer.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16706\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_2985-1280x720.jpg\" alt=\"Porsche 911 GT3 running at Suzuka Circuit\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Driving flat out through 200R is quite intimidating, but he pushed through. Rather than fear, the GT3\u2019s price tag flashed through his mind, so he didn\u2019t push too hard and headed to Spoon Curve. <strong>The GT3 remained very stable even at the exit leading to the back straight.<\/strong> This section is tricky, where a poor line or overspeed can unsettle the car, but the GT3\u2019s forgiving nature lets it corner as if nothing happened.<\/p>\n<p>He opened the throttle fully on the back straight and approached the challenging 130R. He recalls taking this corner at about 140-160 km\/h in the Boxster, but the GT3 handled it with ease. <strong>At around 170-180 km\/h, it still didn\u2019t feel too scary.<\/strong> He felt he could go faster, but controlling the thoughts about the GT3\u2019s price was harder than the fear itself (laughs).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16709\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_2981-1280x720.jpg\" alt=\"Porsche 911 GT3 running at Suzuka Circuit\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After running 130R, he honestly thought, \u201c<strong>If only this GT3 had a rear wing&#8230;<\/strong>\u201d or rather, \u201c<strong>If only this were a GT3 RS&#8230;<\/strong>\u201d The wingless GT3 Touring Package is very stable and not lacking, but it makes you want to experience even higher performance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you\u2019re mainly thinking about circuit use, the GT3 RS is probably the way to go,<\/strong> he concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Braking before the chicane was very easy to modulate. Of course, Porsche\u2019s standard brakes are also very controllable, but the PCCB has a deep bite, and when you feel \u201c<strong>I braked a bit too much<\/strong>\u201d or \u201c<strong>Not enough<\/strong>,\u201d a slight adjustment in pedal pressure smoothly brings the car to the exact speed and point you want.<\/p>\n<p>Other high-performance supercar brakes are also excellent and may have equal or greater stopping power, but this level of control and <strong>the way it matches human feel is what makes \u2018Porsche brakes\u2019 special,<\/strong> he thought.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16710\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_2978-1280x720.jpg\" alt=\"Porsche 911 GT3 running at Suzuka Circuit\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Overall impressions of the GT3 on the circuit<\/h3>\n<p>This was his first time bringing the GT3 to the circuit, and the biggest realization was that he was \u201c<strong>not in control of it at all.<\/strong>\u201d He had grown confident handling the GT3 on public roads, but that was a complete illusion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The GT3 hides expressions and abilities that never show on public roads, and when unleashed, it clearly reminded him that his driving skills are far below the car\u2019s potential.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16711\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_2996-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Porsche 911 GT3 running at Suzuka Circuit\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The GT3\u2019s extraordinary dynamic performance means anyone can drive it fast to some extent. Even if you make mistakes in line or braking, the car\u2019s capabilities cover a lot of ground. On the other hand, if you can actively harness that performance to shave lap times, <strong>the GT3 will show you an even higher world.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In his case, he felt he was only using the GT3\u2019s performance to cover his own mistakes and lack of skill, not to push forward positively. So, he still feels \u201c<strong>I haven\u2019t mastered the GT3 yet.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With many cars on track and mixed classes, plus yellow flags and red flag interruptions, he couldn\u2019t get a single clear lap, so no proper lap timing was possible.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, he\u2019s analyzing the driving data and video recorded with Porsche\u2019s official smartphone app, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/jp\/app\/porsche-track-precision\/id906372410\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Porsche Track Precision<\/a>,\u201d and practicing at home on Gran Turismo SPORT.
