The Next Car After the Panamera<\/h3>\n

Since last fall, we\u2019ve been talking about replacing our Panamera<\/a>, as I mentioned in a previous article. The Panamera\u2019s inspection is due this October, so we\u2019re considering switching to another car by then.<\/p>\n

However, even though we say \u201cjust switch,\u201d it\u2019s not that simple. It\u2019s been about half a year since last fall, but we still haven\u2019t decided on the next candidate car.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s not that we haven\u2019t thought about it or discussed it as a couple; we\u2019ve gone to dealers for test drives and had many \u201cthis way and that way<\/strong>\u201d discussions, but the situation keeps changing and twisting, so we\u2019re still undecided.<\/p>\n

Candidate: Porsche Taycan<\/h3>\n

The first candidate we considered as a replacement for the Panamera was Porsche\u2019s first EV, the Taycan.<\/strong> We even attended a preview event and learned a lot about the Taycan. My husband was very curious about \u201cwhat kind of EV a sports car maker would create<\/strong>\u201d and even made a reservation for it at one point.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

However, we felt the rear seats were narrower than expected (not cramped, but definitely less spacious than the Panamera)<\/span>, and on top of that, we heard delivery would be way off in 2021. So we thought, \u201cHmm, that\u2019s quite a wait\u2026 Maybe we should squeeze in another car in the meantime\u2026 We need to consider this more.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

Around that time, my husband also said,<\/p>\n

I think a base 911 instead of the Panamera would be nice. I want to try driving a base 911; I think it would be really fun.<\/p>\n

But I replied,<\/p>\n

No way\u2026 We already have a 964 and a GT3, so why on earth would we buy another 911? That\u2019s just crazy.<\/p>\n

and that ended the conversation.<\/p>\n

Bentley Continental GT<\/h3>\n

Next up as a candidate was the Bentley Continental GT. My husband has always liked luxury coupes and had been interested in the Continental GT for a while. I suggested, \u201cIf we\u2019re replacing the Panamera, how about a luxury car so different that you wouldn\u2019t even compare it to the Panamera?<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

So, at the end of last year, we went for a test drive in the Continental GT as a couple. It was sportier than we expected (of course, it was more refined and luxurious than the Panamera, and a wonderful car)<\/span>, but<\/p>\n

Hmm, I was expecting something more luxurious, but this still makes me compare it to the Panamera. And the Flying Spur is ridiculously expensive\u2026<\/p>\n

So the Continental GT was dropped from the list.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Porsche Cayenne<\/h3>\n

After that, the Porsche Cayenne came up as a candidate. My husband was impressed when he test drove the current Cayenne and said, \u201cI think the Cayenne is great too.<\/strong>\u201d But I hesitated, saying, \u201cBut it\u2019s so big\u2026<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2026I feel bad that I always seem to be shooting down my husband\u2019s ideas.<\/p>\n

Still, the Cayenne has a spacious rear seat, so we decided to consider it since the kids would be comfortable even on long trips.<\/strong> But while browsing used car sites, my husband started muttering,<\/p>\n

The Cayenne\u2019s depreciation is more than I thought\u2026 Considering resale, I hesitate to buy a new one. It\u2019d be great if there\u2019s a good used one. But I definitely want PDCC, and it\u2019s hard to find a base Cayenne with PDCC\u2026<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, our Nissan Note e-POWER NISMO S was delivered as my husband\u2019s commuter car,<\/a> and he started saying almost daily,<\/p>\n

This car is amazing! The acceleration of an electric car is incredible! If the Note is this good, the Taycan must be out of this world.<\/strong> The Taycan is definitely not off the table!<\/p>\n

So we had a reason to visit the Porsche Center, and since there was a Cayenne Coupe on display, we consulted with our sales rep, Mr. H.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The Cayenne Coupe we saw was very cool, and my husband said, \u201cIf it\u2019s this spec, I really want it!<\/strong>\u201d But after talking it over at home,<\/p>\n

But the Taycan is non-negotiable\u2026 Considering the delivery time for the Cayenne Coupe, if we buy it, we\u2019d probably switch to the Taycan after a while, which feels like a waste\u2026 The Cayenne can be bought anytime, but if we don\u2019t reserve the Taycan now (reservations close on 2\/28)<\/span>, we might not be able to get one for a while\u2026 Hmm\u2026<\/p>\n

and the candidate car discussion completely stalled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Next page \u2192 The current candidate is, surprisingly, a Porsche \u25cb\u25cb!<\/a><\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

<\/p>\n

Porsche 911<\/h3>\n

Looking back, it seems things changed dramatically after the Note came to our home. The Note e-POWER NISMO S turned out to be an unexpectedly wonderful and practical car.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Note\u2019s rear seats are quite spacious, and since the body is compact, we always use the Note when going as a family to places with narrow parking lots nearby. Before the Note, we went in the BMW 320i, but recently the kids have been saying \u201cThe Note\u2019s back seats are roomy!\u201d and seem to really like it, so the 320i hardly gets used anymore.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Note<\/p>\n

The other day, while talking with my husband, I found myself saying,<\/p>\n

Before, I thought a car that the whole family could ride in comfortably was best, so maybe the Cayenne would be good. But the Note is pretty roomy for the family and convenient for tight spots, so maybe we don\u2019t really need to buy a Cayenne. And even for long trips (like to Fuji Speedway)<\/span>, we\u2019ve been lucky to go with two cars like \u201cPanamera and GT3\u201d or \u201cPanamera and Boxster\u201d<\/strong>, and I think that will continue. So maybe we don\u2019t need to worry about everyone riding comfortably in one car. That makes me feel like the Cayenne would be too much. \u2026Thinking that way, the 911 seems like a better fit.<\/strong> It\u2019s compact, great for city or highway driving, and the kids like the cozy rear seats of the air-cooled 911. But if that\u2019s the case, it\u2019d be a shame if I hardly get to drive the BMW 320i, so maybe when we replace the Panamera, we should say goodbye to the 320i too and get a 911.<\/p>\n

Then my husband said,<\/p>\n

Exactly!!! That\u2019s why I\u2019ve been saying, \u201cHow about a 911?<\/strong>\u201d The base 911 looks fun and highly rated, and if you\u2019re going to use it often, the 992 is great too. And imagine picking up the kids from kindergarten in a 911. It\u2019s fun and unique to go in a compact sports car among all the SUVs and minivans, right? lol<\/p>\n

So for now, our car choice stands at \u201cIs the next car after the Panamera going to be a 911?<\/strong>\u201d but it\u2019s very possible this will change again after more discussions.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, autumn will come, and we might just decide, \u201cIt\u2019s time for the Panamera\u2019s inspection, so let\u2019s just keep driving it.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

In other words, the fact that we can\u2019t decide even after so much thought shows how wonderful the Panamera really is.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Car shopping is truly difficult. Once you start thinking about it, there\u2019s no end, and it\u2019s hard to decide.
