Readers sometimes ask whether they should option PCCB, so let\u2019s take a closer look at Porsche\u2019s braking systems and how to choose between them.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Standard_Porsche_Brakes_Deliver_Performance_on_Another_Level\"><\/span>Standard Porsche Brakes Deliver Performance on Another Level<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Porsche\u2019s standard brakes use cast-iron discs.<\/p>\n<p>Most feature internal ventilation, and cross-drilled discs are available on some models. Within that short range, braking force is designed to respond to how firmly you press the pedal. It may take a little getting used to at first, but once it clicks, it\u2019s fantastic. <strong>Just as you use the accelerator to control acceleration, you can use the brake pedal to control deceleration.<\/strong> It\u2019s a feeling you won\u2019t find in any other car.<\/p>\n<p>The braking power itself is exceptional, but what really sets Porsche brakes apart is their <strong>remarkable controllability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"PSCB_vs_PCCB_What_Sets_Them_Apart\"><\/span>PSCB vs. PCCB: What Sets Them Apart?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>PSCB stands for Porsche Surface Coated Brake. It uses cast-iron discs with a ceramic coating. Its distinctive white calipers are matched by greatly reduced brake dust.<\/p>\n<p>The brake system was developed by Japan\u2019s Akebono Brake Industry and is available on models such as the Cayenne. However, it isn\u2019t offered on dedicated sports cars like the 718 or 911.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_32612-2\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32612-2\" class=\"size-large wp-image-32612\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/IMG_0823-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"\u30dd\u30eb\u30b7\u30a7911GT3\u306e\u30db\u30a4\u30fc\u30eb\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-32612-2\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PCCB\u88c5\u7740\u8eca<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Then there\u2019s <strong>PCCB<\/strong>, famous for its yellow calipers.<\/p>\n<p>Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes use ceramic discs that weigh more than 50% less than their cast-iron counterparts. They deliver consistent braking across a wide range of temperatures, even under repeated heavy braking. The dramatic reduction in unsprung weight allows the suspension to respond more quickly to the road, significantly improving grip, steering response, and high-speed stability.<\/p>\n<p>The first car I equipped with PCCB was a 991 GT3 Touring, and its high-speed stability exceeded my expectations. Even on the same GT3, the driving feel changes noticeably depending on whether it has PCCB. <strong>At low speeds, the standard brakes feel a little more progressive<\/strong>, but <strong>PCCB comes into its own as speeds rise<\/strong>. The whole car feels lighter and more agile. Once you experience the difference, a price that\u2019s generally over \u00a51.5 million, depending on the model, starts to make sense.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Common_PCCB_Concerns_and_How_to_Choose\"><\/span>Common PCCB Concerns and How to Choose<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I often hear people worry that PCCB doesn\u2019t work well when cold, but that concern is a thing of the past.<\/p>\n<p>In my experience, PCCB systems from the 991 generation onward work normally from the moment you set off. Some drivers say the feel is different and takes getting used to, but most adapt after just a few brake applications. In fact, <strong>the grabby brakes found in many Japanese cars can be much harder to get used to<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-41219\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/IMG_5444-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"\u30b9\u30d1\u30a4\u30c0\u30fcRS\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That said, I wouldn\u2019t recommend PCCB for anyone who drives on track frequently.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not ideal for sustained use in extreme conditions, and replacement costs can be enormous. But <strong>if you mainly drive on public roads and only do a light track day once or twice a year, PCCB is absolutely worth choosing<\/strong>. My Spyder RS has PCCB, and even after driving 2,000 or 3,000 kilometers, the wheels stay completely clean. Once you\u2019ve experienced that convenience, it\u2019s hard to give up.<\/p>\n<p>In my view, <strong>PCCB is best reserved for the Porsche that really means something to you<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>That might be a Porsche you plan to keep for years, or a special model such as an RS or limited edition. PCCB is worth considering on cars like these. If you\u2019re buying a range-topping model, it makes sense to give it the best brakes, too.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-35990\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/DSC04128-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"\u30bf\u30a4\u30ab\u30f3\u30bf\u30fc\u30dcGT \u30f4\u30a1\u30a4\u30b6\u30c3\u30cf\u30d1\u30c3\u30b1\u30fc\u30b8\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In practice, the improvement PCCB brings to the driving experience can justify its price.<\/p>\n<p>High-speed stability, sharper steering response, and\u2014above all\u2014the ability to keep your wheels looking clean all help make Porsche ownership more rewarding. Ultimately, it comes down to your budget, but choose an option you won\u2019t regret. Porsche brakes are more than just components.
