I still often watch videos like this one.  <\/p>\n<div class=\"ytube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xQcjM6cKxdU?si=Q4FrHSmTy5GxJpHs\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Recently, Walker announced that his collection\u2014built over nearly 50 years\u2014will be auctioned in March 2026. Partnering with RM Sotheby&#8217;s, &#8220;Magnus Walker: The Outlaw Collection&#8221; will run from March 18 to 25, featuring <strong>162 lots including 18 cars<\/strong>. Some models are exceptionally rare, such as the 1976 911 Carrera 2.7 MFI, with only 113 units worldwide\u2014making the lineup truly spectacular.  <\/p>\n<p>Walker described this decision as a &#8220;shedding skin,&#8221; signaling more than just a sale\u2014it symbolically closes a chapter in his life, a sentiment I deeply respect.  <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"An_Honest_Confession_%E2%80%9CWhat_Should_Have_Been_Fun_Became_a_Burden%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>An Honest Confession: &#8220;What Should Have Been Fun Became a Burden&#8221;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The phrase that struck me most from Walker\u2019s words was this:  <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong>My hobby grew beyond control and, although it was supposed to be fun, it became a burden<\/strong>.&#8221; Many collectors usually cite financial reasons or storage issues when parting with their cars. But Walker was candid\u2014his passion grew so intense it felt like an obligation. I love each one and have no intention of letting any go. On days when I want an open-air drive through the mountains, it\u2019s either the 981 Boxster GTS or 718 Spyder RS. For a relaxing cruise, the SL400 or Model 3 fits perfectly. On highways, the Taycan Turbo GT offers a GT3-like handling experience with the smooth torque of an EV. The 964 always delivers joy, no matter the setting\u2014a truly versatile ride. <strong>Each car has a clear role, so there&#8217;s little reason to sell any of them for now.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-35288\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/GgGiJvebYAUASVd-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Air-cooled Porsche 964\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Still, I catch myself understanding Walker\u2019s sentiment.  <\/p>\n<p>We have only one body\u2014no matter how many cars, you can drive only one at a time. When you accumulate vehicles you want to drive but can\u2019t, there\u2019s a subtle stress that builds up\u2014a touch of guilt for not giving each the attention it deserves. When readers of my blog say, &#8220;You haven\u2019t been driving that car lately, have you?&#8221; it hits a nerve.  <\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not a collector who enjoys merely looking at their cars. If I\u2019m not going to drive them, I feel there\u2019s no point in owning them. Cars are made to be driven. That\u2019s why this <strong>ambiguous feeling of holding onto cars you can\u2019t drive<\/strong> grows stronger with every additional vehicle. Maintenance and inspections pile up not just as an economic burden but also as a drain on time.  <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_the_Philosophy_of_%E2%80%9CShedding_Skin%E2%80%9D_Asks_of_Us\"><\/span>What the Philosophy of &#8220;Shedding Skin&#8221; Asks of Us<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Walker\u2019s choice of the phrase &#8220;shedding skin&#8221; likely doesn\u2019t stem from regret.  <\/p>\n<p>After 50 years of history, I believe he views this as a positive step toward <strong>&#8220;moving into the next phase.&#8221;<\/strong> It\u2019s not about being chained to the collection but about reevaluating his relationship with cars. But reading about Walker has made me somewhat aware of <strong>the day my own shedding skin moment might come.<\/strong> Cars exist to be driven.
