Overall deliveries were down, but the 911 was the only model to post growth.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Overall_Deliveries_Down_16_While_the_911_Rises_12\"><\/span>Overall Deliveries Down 16%, While the 911 Rises 12%<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>While deliveries fell across the rest of the lineup, the 911 was the sole model to grow.<\/p>\n<p>Porsche delivered 178,532 vehicles worldwide, down 16% from 212,509 in the same period last year. Within that total, <strong>911 deliveries reached 42,217, up 12% year over year<\/strong>. The 718\u2019s 79% decline is a different story: production ended in October last year. I wrote about the future of the gasoline-powered 718 in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/718-ev-only\/\">this article<\/a>. Looking at the table alone, it\u2019s tempting to conclude that \u201cthe 911 is popular and the Taycan isn\u2019t.\u201d <strong>I read the figures a little differently<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Porsche_Says_%E2%80%9CValue_Over_Volume%E2%80%9D%E2%80%94I_See_a_Shift_in_Sales_Strategy\"><\/span>Porsche Says \u201cValue Over Volume\u201d\u2014I See a Shift in Sales Strategy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_35088-2\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35088-2\" class=\"size-large wp-image-35088\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/F0wWKUlaUAE9-EH-1280x960.jpg\" alt=\"Porsche 911 Carrera T\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-35088-2\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">My former 992.1 Carrera T<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Porsche says demand for the 911 remains exceptionally strong.<\/p>\n<p>Becker, the board member responsible for sales and marketing, pointed to the \u201cvalue over volume\u201d approach outlined at the company\u2019s Capital Markets Day: prioritizing value over sheer delivery numbers. He also noted the high share of top-tier trims such as the GTS, Turbo, and GT\u2014especially for the 911. Porsche\u2019s explanation is that customers are deliberately choosing the most special versions.<\/p>\n<p>I see this as the result of Porsche <strong>actively selling more high-priced, higher-margin models at the top of the range<\/strong>. It\u2019s not that customer tastes suddenly changed; the emphasis on the seller\u2019s side has shifted. I discussed the same trend in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/flagship-911-2026\/\">this article on whether a rumored new flagship above the 911 might focus on extreme performance or ultimate luxury<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Porsche used to say that if 100 customers wanted 100 cars, it would sell only 99. The idea was to keep production slots slightly limited, leaving customers willing to wait a little for the car they wanted. That, I think, was part of Porsche\u2019s traditional sales approach. But judging by how the 911 is being sold lately, <strong>it seems Porsche has been opening up production slots considerably<\/strong>. This isn\u2019t something I\u2019ve verified with hard data; it\u2019s my impression based on comments from blog readers and information on social media. I think the backdrop is the slowdown in EV demand.<\/p>\n<p>Taycan deliveries fell 31% year over year. If the electric sports car Porsche has invested heavily in isn\u2019t selling as expected, the company needs to make up the difference somewhere. It has therefore put more emphasis on the upper-end 911 models, which sell reliably and generate strong profits. <strong>The 911\u2019s growth makes sense as an effort to offset weak EV sales<\/strong>. I covered why the Taycan is struggling to sell and how that affects resale values in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/taycan-resale-why\/\">an earlier article<\/a>. The electric Cayenne has recorded 7,002 deliveries since customer handovers began at the end of June. But as a new model, I suspect it\u2019s simply benefiting from an initial sales bump.<\/p>\n<p>China is worth considering, too. Deliveries there fell 33%, but Porsche says it is prioritizing the brand\u2019s long-term strength over short-term sales volume. Overall, the company isn\u2019t chasing numbers\u2014yet 911 deliveries are rising. <strong>Perhaps the 911 has become a model Porsche is no longer holding back<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Another_Factor_Selling_GT_and_RS_Models_Before_Euro_7\"><\/span>Another Factor: Selling GT and RS Models Before Euro 7<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I also think the changing regulatory landscape may be playing a role.<\/p>\n<p>Euro 7 is the EU\u2019s new emissions standard. For passenger cars, it will apply to new vehicle types from November 29, 2026, and to all new cars from November 29, 2027. Porsche may also be looking to sell through GT models\u2014especially RS versions\u2014before the regulations fully take effect. <strong>That\u2019s only my speculation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>To sum up, I believe the 911\u2019s growth reflects a change in how Porsche sells the car more than a sudden surge in popularity. Porsche is opening up production slots, actively selling higher-margin models, and moving cars that may be affected by upcoming regulations.
