My Family's Car Life

Riding in a Porsche on a rainy day

Rainy day, Porsche

My husband long ago wrote a letter to theScrub your car on a rainy day.He was reading a book called

I wasn't interested in cars at the time. Why polish the car on a rainy day, when it's going to get wet anyway?and so on, but my husband was not.

I understand this. It's not about not washing the car because it gets wet easily in the rain. I understand.

He said.

Now, I think I kind of understand how that feels.(Though I wouldn't polish my car on a rainy day)

It's been a really rainy rainy season this year, so I've had quite a few opportunities to drive my Porsche in the rain.Porsche on a rainy day is quite atmospheric.I thought again.

Porsche is a car that feels quite hermetically sealed, so in the rain, only "I" and "Porsche" stand out...

When I drive other cars, I don't feel it that much, but when I drive a Porsche, I feel it.It's as if there is only "me" and "Porsche" in this space right now. Then, only the sound of the rain can be heard, and you are enveloped in a somewhat strange sense of oneness with the car.

Porsche's direct feeling

My husband, too, has always loved driving in the rain, especially in an air-cooled Porsche, where he can feel the rain directly, and said something like this.

Air-cooled Porsches can hear the sound of rain more directly than modern cars. The sound of rain bouncing off the roof is indescribably pleasant. The little windshield wipers are clumsy and desperate to wipe away the rain, and I love it.
I also like the atmosphere of driving in the rain, because the car is small and enclosed. It's almost like being in a "tea room" on a rainy day...I don't know.

I think it is true that an air-cooled Porsche would add more atmosphere to a rainy day drive. I think that an air-cooled Porsche would certainly add more atmosphere to a rainy day drive.

My husband also likes to go running on days of heavy rain and calls himself aBad Weather Driving ManiaThe other day, after my daughters and I went to bed, it started raining so hard that he couldn't stand it any longer and went for a drive in the middle of the night in his GT3 in the pouring rain.

My husband, about driving in bad weather.

I have always liked driving in the rain or snow. There are fewer cars on rainy days. I like the gap between the bad weather outside the car and the comfort inside the car. I like the feeling of being protected by the car, or the sense of security, or I don't know how to put it, but I like the feeling of being more like a partner with the car.

He said.

You must really love driving a car to go all the way out on a day when it's raining so hard (laughs).

But...I don't want to drive my precious Porsche or my car in the rain.I hear that there are many people who say, "I don't know. It gets wet and dirty. Don't you care about that at all?" But my husband said, "I don't care about that at all.

I don't particularly care. If it gets dirty, I can wash it again, and if it gets damaged, I can fix it.

He said. I see (laughs).

The upcoming 992 Cabriolet has a wet mode, and I would love to experience what it is really like.
