For those planning to buy a Porsche, how much Porsche car insurance costs is naturally a big concern.
I have touched on insurance a few times in past articles, but never in much detail, so this time I’d like to organize the information a bit.
First of all, I have all my insurance through the dealer.
To be honest, it’s not cheap. I’m well aware there are cheaper options, but since I own multiple cars and replace them fairly often, I find it easier to leave all the paperwork and optimizing insurance coverage when swapping vehicles to the dealer’s representative. (It’s pricier, but I feel like I’m buying convenience and time.)
By the way, many internet-based low-cost insurers don’t cover vehicles like Porsches valued over 10 million yen (with some exceptions), so if you want comprehensive coverage, you often end up choosing insurance handled by dealers or insurance agencies.
Currently, our household has six cars, and all are insured through the dealer via Tokio Marine & Nichido.
Here is a list of the insurance premiums for each: 992 Carrera Cabriolet, 991.1 Carrera 4 GTS, 981 Boxster GTS, 964 Carrera 2, 9Y0 Cayenne E-Hybrid, and ZC33S Swift Sport, for your reference.
Note that these are based on coverage for drivers aged 35 and over (some policies limited to couples), and while there are minor differences in conditions, the coverage is almost the same.
Vehicle | Rank | Rate Class (Vehicle・Bodily Injury・Property Damage・Personal Injury) | Comprehensive Coverage | Annual Premium | Notes |
992 Carrera Cabriolet | 10 | 14・8・8・7 | 19 million yen | 248,430 yen
991.1 Carrera 4 GTS | 9 | 5・5・1・4 | 13.5 million yen | 89,420 yen
981 Boxster GTS | 9 | 12・7・1・7 | 5.05 million yen | 119,250 yen
964 Carrera 2 | 8 | 10・1・5・7 | 5.1 million yen | 96,060 yen | Car-to-Car A |
9Y0 Cayenne E-Hybrid | 11 | 8・6・5・4 | 13 million yen | 173,260 yen
ZC33S Swift Sport | 8 | 8・7・4・7 | 2.1 million yen | 73,730 yen | Car-to-Car A |
The total annual premium comes to 800,150 yen.
By the way, when I owned a 991.2 GT3, the insurance premium was 11th rank with 26 million yen comprehensive coverage, costing 291,940 yen.
Honestly, it’s expensive. But if you want to maintain a Porsche with comprehensive insurance, you should be prepared for costs around this level.
For vehicles around 20 million yen, depending on rank and rate class, expect about 250,000 to 350,000 yen per year. For cars around 10 million yen, 100,000 to 200,000 yen per year is a rough estimate.
As mentioned at the start, it’s possible to get cheaper insurance.
So please consider these premiums as a general guideline. I hope this helps those planning to buy a Porsche in the future.
